I recently just read Outlander and currently reading the 4th book in the series. I can't wait for series to start in August. What are your thoughts about the actors playing the characters?

I haven't that many thoughts yet on the actors playing the characters, because I've only seen wee bits here and there so far, but what I've seen so far I've liked. I'm currently in the middle of book 2 and loving every minute of it! I can't wait for the series to start! I didn't really give the book a chance until I heard the "commercial" for the series for Starz and realized it sounded like a time-travel book/series and then I was all over it. Before that I was under the mistaken impression that it was too much of a "bodice ripper" type of fluff book, not that they don't have their place, but I stopped reading those back in my 20's. Anyway, after seeing that first commercial I picked up "Outlander" and started reading it-I have to say it's one of the best fiction books I've ever read. Loved it!!! Book 2 wasn't as great so far, but then again most can't top the first book any way, but it's starting to pick up and I'm so glad this is a series of books as I'm quite attached to the characters. I counting down the days until the first Starz episode, but I don't expect it to be as good as the book-because they never are (that's supposed to be a wink-can't tell for sure). Debbie in MD.

Can't wait! Just got the most recent book. I haven't started it yet as I have been having bad headaches but dh has and says it is good.
I think it is going to be an amazing series!

Angie, that's great to hear about the 3rd book getting better. I thought it was just me...I mean I love Versailles and the idea of France during those times how could it be boring? But the first part of Book 2 that covered all of that was sort of a yawn...until they get back to Scotland-then I liked it better. But I adore the series so I'm hanging in there. Don't worry-I plan to read all of the books, but thanks for the encouragement! Debbie in MD. (who is determined to get her avatar back this weekend and is tired of that stupid blank face

I heard about the book, Outlander, for awhile but not sure why I was hesitant to read it. Even went to the library and picked out a few books to read along with Outlander. Outlander was the last book I read before having to return the books. It took me about 100 pages to get completely hooked & then I was thinking to myself "what took u so long to read this book"?!?. I loved books 1-3. I'm finding it hard to find time to read book 4, probably because it's summer and the kids are home with their busy summer schedules.
I do hope Starz does a good job following the plot lines in the book. Agree books are ALWAYS better than the movies but the author has been very involved from what I've read. Gives us hope....

I'm reading the newest book now. I can't wait for the series to start. I though Jamie would be good looking. The actor for him just doesn't seem right to me. He may fit the character after the show starts though.

I have not read the books but have heard about them through the years. Maybe I should read the first one in July before the series starts. Please give us a heads up when the series starts!

I love this series, I just finished the latest one, Written in My Own Heart's Blood. Some of the books do get a bit tedious, but overall, I've really enjoyed it. I hope to watch the series, but we will be right in the middle of a big move and I'm not sure I'll be able to catch it. I have seen some of the trailers and I think the actors playing Jaime and Claire are perfect!

I'm can't wait!
I've reread the series, but more so that I can remember the characters from previous books. Warning:any and all characters seem to eventually turn up again! I'm about 60% of the way through Written In My Heart's Own Blood. Darn kids are home for the summer and cutting into my reading time! The books can drag a bit at parts, but I still want the story.
I'm waiting to see if they have the series on Hulu Plus or available to stream per episode. I don't want to bump up my Cale package to get Starz, but I may need to just to watch the show! There are 16 episodes this first season and each season is supposed to be based on the next book. So that gives us 9 seasons if Diana sticks to the intended 9 books.

When is it supposed to start? I just asked dh if we have Starz, and he says that we do. I want to get the DVR set up.

I highly recommend reading this series. Outlander has to be one of my all time favorite book, if not my favorite.

So looking forward to the series, I think (from just the visuals) that the casting is spot on and it is hopefully going to be a great series. I did not like Echo in the Bone, it drifted a lot and then got plenty of action and then boom, just ended like that. Very disappointing. I got the latest one and I'm going to give Gabaldon another chance. I really hope the series is great!

The plan is for each of DG's book to be a season on Starz. I sure hope the series is popular because having 8 seasons of the Outlander series would be fun to watch.

Book 2 has a killer cliffhanger ending, and book 3 is my second favorite after Outlander . From what I've seen the actress playing Claire seems perfect. I think the actor playing Jamie will grow on me once the series gets going. I'm very excited for it.

I have tried.. and tried.. and tried several times to get through this book and I'm convinced by now that there is something wrong with me! It's normally the type of series that I would like but I just can't get through it! I will watch it on Starz, however, and see if that jump starts me back into the books.

Have you tried just to read Outlander and can't get through it or is it later books in the series? Once I got through the first 100 pages or so the story really picked up and then I couldn't put it down. This was DG's first ever novel and I did have to get used to her writing style. She's extremely descriptive and having to get used to the Scotland dialect and language was challenging but I just kept plugging along. Try it again and I promise you won't be disappointed....or at least I don't think you will. Haha!!

I have toyed with the idea of reading this series, but never quite committed. I do plan to watch the series though.

I had DH sign us up for Starz the other day. I CANNOT WAIT!!!!! Diana Gabaldon says that when she saw Sam Heugan (who plays Jamie) on his audition tapes she got all excited because he IS her Jamie. The guy who is producing the series, it's his wife's favorite book, and he gave everyone, cast and crew, Outlander and told them that it was their Bible.
I really, really can't wait.

I'm subscribing to Starz just for the series. Once Outlander has finished the first season I plan on canceling.

I had previously heard about the series on Two Peas years ago, but not sure why I never got into reading it. I thought maybe it was just a romance novel, and I wasn't all that interested in romance novels. When I saw the previews on STARZ I remembered people here talking about the series and looked them up. Decided to give the books a try and I finished the first book in 2 weeks, which is record time for me since I work full time and have a 10 month old. I seriously couldn't put the book down. I was reading it on my iPhone while walking into work, walking around the hospital, during my lunch breaks, while pumping at work, etc. I started book 2, and while it took me a bit longer to get into it, I'm fully engrossed once again.
I'm really excited for the series, and I'm sure I'll make my DH watch them with me. I think the actress playing Claire is spot on, and although Jamie isn't what I imagined in my mind he's quickly growing on me and I'll reserve my final judgement once I see a few episodes.
