It's all horrific
The ending of black lives by other black men is just as much of an issue and I wish there was a way to stop all this violence
I'm so, so sick of watching the news and setting how many young black men die and it's like so many of them don't value each other or lift each other up, you just have to be a mom or old before you see another way besides fast money and kill or be killed
And that's really not just a young black man problem, it's a poverty problem

I feel numb right now. I can't bring myself to watch the video. I'm angry and sad and scared. No one should have to convince others of their humanity.

Just watched the news conference and what struck me was how his wife spoke of him almost like she was convincing us he was worthy of not being killed. My life does not have the same value as many of you and it's really starting to piss me off. You are right. It's horrible how those that are paid to protect and serve are all to often now becoming murderers. Its interesting to me that even though this issue has been in the spotlight for over two years now, some peas are only now seeing that all Americans are not treated equally under the law because of the Clinton email thing. Clearly they have not been paying attention, or they just think "eh. He was black so he had it coming." Or, since some black men are killing each other, it doesn't matter that the cops are killing them. SMH.

Since I have a kid that lives in Baton Rouge, I honed in on it pretty quickly this morning. The video is awful and damning. There was zero reason for it happening.
And I will be honest, I am worried about my kidding living in a potential powder keg right now.

It ALL matters, and naturally I hold the police to a much higher standard than I do criminals. I'm tired of all of it, all the violence and lives lost for what?

It is horrible. I hang my head in shame because nothing has changed. Not just in the past two years, but in the past 15 and more. It was 1991 when Rodney King was beaten.

How do both body cameras come off and shouldn't they still record?

How do both body cameras come off and shouldn't they still record? During the video it shows the police in a scuffle with the young man that was shot. It was pretty physical and it looks like they fell off during that time. I believe they should still be recording but I think we'll find out soon.

Unless you want to start talking about how cops act in low income areas compared to rich areas? A call was placed because this man was selling CDs on the street which is illegal. He had a gun and yes he shouldn't have due to criminal history back in 2000. But the cops did not know that at the time I bet. Gun Law: Louisiana is a "shall issue" state for concealed carry. Open carry is generally permitted without a license, but may be restricted by local governments with laws in place before July 15, 1985. I doubt they identified the man before they shot him to know he has been arrested before. So really they shot a man that was carrying a gun who could have been carrying it legally. As well they shot a man who was pinned down by 2 cops. How did that man pose a deadly threat to them? Oh and this: He died over selling CDs!!!! When will this stop?

You bet I'm talking about how they act in areas that are poverty-stricken, and also the reasons they're there in the first place
It's all maddening and disgusting, the senseless waste of lives

Important to note that it looks pretty physical because the cops went nuts. He was just standing there and not doing or saying anything remotely aggressive.

The call was made to police because he was outside the store threatening someone with a gun so the police knew he had a gun when they came upon the scene. Just want to be clear about what they knew when they arrived.

Come to find out from the video he wasn't yet the man still died by the hands of police. Got it

The mayor said during the press conference this morning that he had a gun on him and the reason the police were dispatched initially. I'm not adding anymore than what the facts are and have been relayed by the authorities nor am I condoning anything that the police have done. Just trying to be informative.

As someone mentioned above, John Crawford was killed as he was shopping in Wal-Mart because someone called 911 and reported he was threatening people with a gun. He was not. Subsequently released security footage proved that. He was shopping and carrying a bb gun *that was for sale in the store.* Further, that happened in Ohio, which is a state where open carry is legal, yet he was still shot and killed by police essentially on sight. So, I think it's premature to say that what is reported in a 911 call is "informative" and accurate.

Sad thing about the investigations is that generally the cop is clear of all charges regardless of happened. Not knowing the entire story. You see the killing from one cell phone camera, but you don't see it from the cop's cameras. In my state there was a man with a shovel who was killed by a cop. There was damning video from a neighbor's yard that looked like he was being killed almost execution style. Months later the footage from the body camera on the cop comes out and it shows the man repeatedly coming at the cop with the shovel and he eventually broke the cop's arm. I have zero opinions about what happened in Louisiana. I don't believe all policemen/women walk on water and I don't believe they are all racists. I prefer to wait and see what happens.

Right now, everything is being discussed, assumed, "tried", guessing via media sources. Facts are not facts, here say is rampant, the media rushed to get anyone to say anything about it further muddying the waters. It really distracts from finding out what really happened because all of a sudden, every media source is demanding an answer taking away from resources. Media also frenzies people up, and then again more assumptions are made before finding out the real story. I'm not in anyway shape or form condoning violence or saying that police do no wrong. I prefer for facts to be brought out before assumptions.

Abdullah Muflahi, owner of the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge
"They told him not to move," he said. "He was asking them what he did wrong." He said the officers then used a stun gun on Sterling at least once before shooting. Both got on top of him, and one ordered him not to move, Muflahi said. The one closest to Sterling's legs yelled "gun," he said, and the shots followed. Just five minutes before, he walked into the store getting something to drink, joking around, (and we were) calling each other names.
After the shooting, Muflahi said an officer reached into Sterling's pocket and pulled out a gun.
Muflahi said he'd known Sterling for six years and never saw a confrontation between Sterling and anyone. Sterling never got into fights, he said. And the store owner said he wasn't aware of any incident Tuesday that would have spurred a 911 call. "Just five minutes before," Muflahi said, "he walked into the store getting something to drink, joking around, (and we were) calling each other names."
I am glad for social media. It may not always be perfect but I do like it.
