...and sees 3 stalls that are all empty. Which one do you choose and why?

The farthest stall is usually the largest (or handicapped) stall. I usually b-line to that if it's available.

Didn't vote cause I'd use the one that's cleanest. I usually look at the ones whose door is already open.

Either the first or last so that the next person has the option of going into a stall that's not directly next to me.

I always go to the first stall because I read somewhere it's always cleanest because not very many people use it. I generally find that to be true.

Closet to door is dirtiest. (I read that somewhere years ago) I'm not sure why I'd pick the middle, but I would.
Eta: going back to research, lol... eta#2: I guess I recalled wrong. Oh well.

in order of importance--cleanliness, proximity to the door, width of the stall

I always use the stall closest to the door if its available as I had previously read that it's usually the cleanest as well. I'm intrigued by the people that use the middle one because the next person that comes in has no choice but to sit down right next to you and the stalls in this case are verrrrry close together.

The one closest to the sinks because they are statistically cleaner than the others. OR, if that one is one of those teeny tiny ones where you have to straddle the toilet to shut the door, I'll go to the handicap stall.

I tend to go to the middle. I don't know why. I think it's just where I head after walking in.

The middle one...it is less used but ONLY
WHEN there is someone in stall #1..then I would go to #3 or the other way around.
OR I check all three out and choose the cleanest one.
There are many variables.....
BUT empty clean bathroom stall #2

First one as you enter. I read a study that said it was the least used stall

Ya'll can have number one stall because obviously by this poll it is the most used. I knew my method was superior..bwaahaahaaa

I don't put much thought into it, if it's vacant I'll use it, unless it's not clean!

So many variables...... if I'm alone, I'll go to the first clean one I find. if ds5 is with me and it's a busy/more dangerous place, I'll go to the handicap stall so he can come in with me. if he's with me and doesn't have to go, I'll go to the one next to the handicap stall so he can wait outside the stall yet not be close to the door (I hate to take up a handicap stall if I don't need it, plus the toilet is usually higher and I'm short).

Any one that is clean. And I sit. Without putting paper down. And I flush with my hand. I have never caught a horrible thigh disease from a toilet seat.

First stall, but I always check to make sure there's not excessive gap space between the wall and the door.

I make a beeline to the handicapped stall. If that's taken, I peek in to find which one's cleanest.
Oh, and also, I foot-flush.

That does it. I'm switching to the last stall because everyone else is apparently using the first one.

not the first because supposedly statistically it's the most used. not the middle because then if anyone comes in they are guaranteed to be next to me. so that leaves the last one.
FWIW usually I will take the second closest to the door, but not when there are only 3.

I go to the third stall in a multi stall room. If it has 3 stalls, I go to the middle one.
If it is during a hockey game, I go to the one that is empty

Middle, cause I read it was the least used, which is backed up by this pole!
