I just ordered one-I hope I can figure this thing out and make good use of it. I got a little glassy-eyed and giddy when I read Elaine's post about making intensely flavored stock quickly. eeep! Guess I'd better start reading all the instapot threads . . . Me too! I cannot leave stock simmering on a stove all day. I don't trust using a crock pot either because the lid is not secure.

ACK! I am trying to buy the pot and some other things adding to 150 and it's saying the 30 dollars off 150 is expired!

I"m hoping I can get rid of my crock pot once I learn how to use the instapot. I make stock in it now, but it's barely big enough (It's a med. sized crock pot and it's getting pretty old). I haven't had any problems with the lid-is it pets that you have to worry about? We're lucky that two of our dogs are too little to get to the counter, and our big girl is very good about staying away from the counters. One of our dog park friends has a huge lab that can get the lid off a crockpot with a locking lid

I've had it less than two months and already think it's worth having two!
I've what it in and out of my cart so many times today. Tell me to hold out for the 8qt, maybe Black Friday?
I'm so annoyed, I had to go to a meeting and time ran out on the Visa30 code.

He is very very fast! Gotcha. I do think the lids are way too easy to get off. Ours slips around pretty easily when removing or handling the crock. I also hate that crock pots get so hot on the outside-I"ve bumped ours more than once when I've had stock going, and nearly gotten a burn. I don't remember them getting so hot on the outside when I was a kid.

elaine my husband was disappointed that I chose no rush shipping. "Oh, I was hoping to use it this weekend". He wants to make cheesecake and lasagna and has some FB friend who is part of a instapot group he just joined.

Okay, you gals have convinced me to come out of lurkdom... Is the Instant Pot ideal (and justifiable, expense-wise) for someone who doesn't care for cooking (quick and simple is my game), is following a lower carb lifestyle, and only needs to cook for one person most of the time? My mother-in-law may, on occasion, want to give it a whirl for rice and beans. Here's my situation: MIL cooks one big meal for our family each day -- it serves as lunch and dinner. I have some weight to lose so I prefer to be on my own for most meals, it's much easier this way. I've been eyeing the Instant Pot posts lately and I've watched several YouTube videos. Quite frankly, this thing looks fantastic. But for someone with very basic needs and limited cooking skills, is it worth it? Thank you for any and all input. I'm ready to buy, just need a little push. ^^^ I'm hoping the answer to your questions is yes, because you described me pretty much to a T, except for the fact that I'll be cooking for two of us at my house, lol!! I bought a different cookbook that says it's healthy recipes... Hopefully the recipes in it don't have a ton of weird ingredients that I wouldn't ever use. But I also plan on combing through elaine 's recipe threads to see what kind of more *simple* and *general* recipes or cooking tips there are. No reply yet but from what I'm gathering from other comments on this thread and the other (Amazon Prime thread), I think we should take a leap of faith and go for it! I'm nearly sold on its egg boiling capabilities let alone the easy chicken breast recipes and steamed veggies. Oh, and the soup and stew possibilities -- perfect for low/lower carb meals. I'm like the black sheep cook in the family...I was born and raised in our family restaurant and yet I despise cooking. Maybe this will be my redemption with my Meema. Haha!

I'm actually SAVING you the $90 difference between the 6 quart right now and the 8 quart. LOL! Actually, if you want an 8 quart, you should buy that instead of the 6 quart, just don't be disappointed if it doesn't go on sale any time soon. I really want the Bluetooth one and that has been out much longer than the 8 quart and continues to be expensive. I'd love it if it became a Lightning Deal.

Quick Question Elaine or anyone else. I just ordered one for myself and I am excited. My friend is thinking of getting one too, but she wants to know if you can use frozen food and frozen meat in it. Thanks! You can use small pieces of frozen meat, like frozen meatballs, frozen thin chicken breasts (the ones that are sold frozen and not more than 1" thick) , frozen cubed stew meat, etc. You just need to add around 5-10 minutes to cooking time. Frozen roasts, frozen whole chickens, turkeys, etc. are NOT recommended. It is good, but can't work miracles. Frozen veggies, etc., are no problem. Thanks, I knew I would get a quick response!

I see several recipes that call for a six or seven inch souffle or baking dish. I don't think a springform would necessarily work for this (frittata). Do you have a dish like what the recipe calls for? Can it just be a Corning French White casserole or does it need to be metal?

Okay, I caved. I ordered the Instant Pot and the tongs. I had a cookbook and steaming rack in my cart but removed them as incentive to "earn" them with continued use. Pretty sure that won't be a problem with the Peas around.

For those of you who have been wanting it, now's the time. I have missed all of the thread until now. But because of your post, I checked it out and one will be here any day now.

Just bought one too! I know it's been posted a thousand times, but which cookbook should I buy? Thanks! link to my favorite cookbook
It is called the Great Big Pressure Cooker Cookbook. It is a great basic cookbook with recipes you can spice up. The authors also teach the Pressure Cooker class at Craftsy. Something to consider if you really want a nudge to use it to the best of its ability. Thank You! Just purchased it.

I bought it as well. I think it's the 6, will the 7 springform fit in it?

Add me to the list of instapot pea purchasers! I saw the post today at work on my break and jumped on it. My dh and I saw an infomercial on it a few months ago and said "we should get one" I'm glad we procrastinated.
My Gram always cooked with her pressure cooker, so it resonates with me. 😀 Hopefully I can figure it out easily.
