On the teacher thread several made mention of the incident from Two Peas where someone contacted an employer about someone posting on the board when they should have been working.
I am just letting everyone know that if you ever see me posting during work hours on a work day, then I am either home sick or it is a holiday. I do not do anything non-work related on my work computer.

Me too...I think many teachers forget that their employer OWNS the computer and the server. 2peas was actually blocked at my work as are all message boards. I think as far as the Mrs. Tyler issue----that was just f-ed up.

I don't have any time to be on outside places at work anyway.

I was kind of amused that 2peas was the only site that I frequented which was blocked at my son's middle school (I used my laptop when I was waiting/on site for meetings or trainings-- I'm just a parent, not staff). It was always kind of interesting to speculate about why two peas was specifically blocked, but sites like Raverlry, quilting board, Facebook, Youtube-- were not.

Being on the computer while we have kids in class is not allowed. We can post during our break, but I never do. I don't have enough time as it is. Every year we are reminded at our staff meetings that our computers are being monitored. It makes sense. Not my machine, not my time. I think teachers know that, some might not care.
Edited to add… I don't know what is prohibited. We can go to Pinterest and Youtube though. Half of my Pinterest board is school ideas. Love that place.

I figure others have jobs like mine.. there are times during the day when I can post. I have breaks, lunch hour, and then random times when I have no work to be done or our system goes down and I can't work because all my tasks that day are system dependent (hate it when it happens) My boss knows I'm goofing along with the rest of the suite.

I remember thinking it strange that Mrs. T was a teacher and was on the computer during the day. If I remember correctly, didn't she say she was only on during her lunch, yet she had posts throughout the day?

There are days/times when I can check the boards, but not often, and sometimes our firewall at work says that this is a forbidden site....does it with another proboards site I check occaisionally too

<----As evidenced here, I don't post much normally; however, when the school year starts I go radio-silent. To be honest, I don't have a second to spare during my instructional day to post.

I don't pay enough attention the when people are working, what time zone they live in, and when they are posting.
It never occurred to me to try to keep track.

I'll post on my cell phone..I wouldn't use my work PC. I just wouldn't want to take the chance to piss off that one loony Pea with the spreadsheet with nothing else to do with tier time.
I'm still mad over the Mrs T thing. Total bs. I really miss her and don blame her one bit for leaving.

it's not just teachers. Everyone should be aware that whatever you do from work the company has access to.
I get to work early to avoid traffic. I use my work desktop to read the news while I have my coffee and eat breakfast. If I have time during the day or at lunch I do all personal stuff from my phone. I also don't have anything personal saved on my work desktop.

I'm constantly having to remind faculty of that and that administration can read any of our email, especially when they email complaining of something work related. Like y'all, I don't post from work. Even if I wanted to, I don't have the time!

I'm self employed and feel lucky that I can pop online when I feel like it. Actually, I WORK online, so I generally take teeny breaks to peek in to the places I like to visit.

Actually I own my own work computer. It is a requirement of my work at home job...along with paying for my internet and phone line. So no not all businesses own the computers. If it is slow at work I post from my other computer though. Lol.

From what I do know about the specific situation in question, it was alleged but proven untrue. The accusations pointed to days when the school was out of session and posts were made from personal devices and not from school property.
But really, it doesn't matter what job you have or if you're a SAHM as I am. I've seen peas accuse SAHM's of neglecting their kids to post on 2peas. If someone is pissed off enough, they'll go to crazy town regardless of your employment situation. Really, unless you are right next to the person when they're posting you don't know what else is going on around them and their circumstances.
I know the person referred to in this thread. I think since she's chosen to not be here, it is impolite to put her name out there. Even if you didn't like her and disagreed with her 1000%, it doesn't do anyone good to bring her up by name when she isn't here to respond.

I also remember a friend of Mrs. Tyler posted that it was true. I had no feelings about her either way but I will tell you that what happened with her made me very angry.

That situation was so messed up. I don't use my work computer to post on message boards. My employer can and does monitor internet usage.

Is it true that people actually bother to check if posters are on a break or at work? Surely that`s the job of their bosses and not random people on a message board. Go ahead and post when you like this pea won`t rat on you and I think anyone else should mind their own business.

Another teacher here...and I don't check this board from work. In part, I'd be too paranoid because it would be a violation of our AUP.
I really look forward to catching up when I get home; it's a way for me to decompress from work. After child size drama all day, it's fun to see what adults are thinking (and then there is always the adult size drama to be found here.)

I post from work-some days I don't have much to do, but can't leave because somebody has to be here. My employer blocks some sites, like Facebook, but not this site (thank goodness!).

Methinks some people doth protest too much.
It reminds me when my children were little. Often the more elaborately they explained they DIDN'T do something, the more I knew they DID do it.

It is part of our user agreement that I can use my computer for personal use. I have to consent to being monitored and do it during my personal time. If I'm on a conference call- especially the 20 minutes of uselessness waiting for the actual meeting to begin- I'll peruse the internet.
