that was throwing my fruit down after weighing it.
I'm done with cashier's not taking any care of the fruit that I'm paying too much for. I've never said anything, but today I was in a store that didn't have a "belt" on the lower end of the register. The young women (doesn't really matter - because older cashier's and male cashier's do it also) was weighing and then dropping and pushing my fruit to the bagger. I nicely asked her to be more careful with the fruit - and then I chuckled to break the tension. She then copped an attitude. I almost went up to the service desk, but let it go.
I think from now on I'm going to put my fruit last on the belt and just ask that they be gentle with it. I'm tired of coming home with bruised peaches and apples.

If this is a trend for all the cashiers where you shop, it seems a visit with management might help. How frustrating. Glad you said something, but you shouldn't have to deal with attitude.

At the point when the attitude came out would be the point I would definitely have gone for a little chat with the manager after I was finished with the transaction with the cashier. Just a polite suggestion that perhaps a little training might be helpful because customers don't want to pay these prices for bruised fruit.

Good for you! Fruit is too expensive to do that and the copped attitude would have sent me to the manager anyway.
I'm so lucky I have a great grocery store where the employees wouldn't do that.

Honestly, I would consider stopping at customer service to speak to the manager AND return the fruit each and every time it happened from here on out.

Good for you. I've said something before. I spend a bunch of time picking out non-bruised fruit just to have the cashier throw it around? No thank you. Fruit is expensive and I'm fussy on some of it and I don't want to throw it out.

I wouldn't hesitate to say something and I'm glad you did. Our food is too expensive to have cashiers or sackers treating it like garbage. I wasn't happy a couple of weeks ago when I found frozen food in every grocery bag I had. I group frozen, dairy and meat together on the belt...I expect them to be bagged together.

Good for you!!! I was a cashier at Target and always treated fruit and veggies like fragile items. Cause I know that crap is expensive!

I'd have been tempted to tell the cashier she needed to go back and exchange it for a piece that hasn't been dropped and potentially bruised.

I know it is a pain but when I am buying overpriced fruit I use the "you scan" option at the grocery store. I get to handle and bag my produce the way I like it.

This happened to me once when buying several bags of chips. The first couple bags she threw down on the counter after scanning them, and so for the last bag I smiled and asked (like OP, with a friendly chuckle) to not throw the bag this time. She copped an attitude too.

When that happens to me with fruit, I tell her I will go pick up a replacement on my way out the store. As I need to remain there to continue to watch the checkout pricing. Course I always feel weird that security might think I'm taking fruit to go without paying for it. lol
I will politely tell them to put my yogurt on top in my bag so that the top foil doesn't get punctured. I recently bought a small basket of donut peaches from WF and the cashier asked if I wanted the basket it was in, yes I do, it's a little protection for them in my bag otherwise if they're loose they will easily bruise.

I hate when they put freshly sliced deli cheese under stuff so it's smushed back together.
The worst one was once around Easter I was getting a ham and my other groceries and some eggs and the cashier scans my eggs then does the 8lb ham and puts it on top of the eggs. I didn't even say anything but I opened the bag and removed the ham and checked that the eggs weren't broken and the cashier started yelling at me that if I had a problem I could just bag my own groceries.
Yea, I don't shop there any more

I had a cashier get pissy that I offered to bag my own groceries. He refused to put anything on the belt at all and bagged them all from his one little bag slot* I had a big cart and was trying to help and I put more in a bag than they do and I sort the bags differently.
We usually dont' have a problem with fruit because the cashier has one bag slot* before anything goes onto the belt. Usually they put bread/eggs and fruit/veggies in a bag there rather than on the belt.

My gripe is I have a reusable grocery bag that is insulated. And I frequently bring an ice pack with me so the cold things stay cold (it is summer in Georgia!) You'd think I was asking for the world - can you please put the cold things in this bag? How hard is that?
No excuse for dropping fruit - a comment to the store manager may be in order.

I'm in the UK, so I don't have those issues because we pack our own items. Can you not do that too, or would that get you worse attitude? When we were in Singapore they sometimes had youngsters doing bagging, and I had to ask one not to put the eggs on top of the crisps (chips), because as soon as he let go of the bag, it all immediately fell over.

You have your receipt. I'd make a call to the store and ask to speak to the manager. All the info he needs to know which employee it was is there. I hate produce abusers.

I had a cashier lean over from the next line, grab my bag of apples to scan for her customer and then toss the bag back on the belt where I was checking out!
I told my cashier I didn't want them and he offered to go get another bag for me. Seriously, who does that? So rude.

It would have been easier for her to just ask the cashier for the code on the apples which I see them leaning over to each other to do.

I always scan my own groceries. This way I get it done the way I like it! This was at a smaller store, with no self scanners. Do you have a choice to shop elsewhere? I do shop at 3-4 different stores within a 2 week period. I just stop wherever I'm closest to. Seems to happen at every single one of them. This is just the first time I've said something and I think I will continue to do so.

I have had this happen. I make sure that they have the manager come over if they cop an attitude. I don't pay until I have had my discussion. I figure if they want to screw with my fruit, I can screw with their cycle time.

This is exactly why I use the self service checkouts when available. I hate taking jobs away from people by doing this but what I hate even more is my food being damaged and causing me unnecessary frustration and/or wasting my money because I'm throwing it away. The last time my daughter went to the store for me to get groceries I had the foil tops of some yogurt containers poked open because of the items that were packaged in the same sack as the yogurt.
It's much less stressful to just ring things up and bag them up myself.
