There will is nothing that people won't glom onto in order to express their outrage. LOL I agree 100%. I remember a bunch of peas getting their knickers in a twist when Mrs. Obama exited Air Force One in shorts and flip flops while on vacation.

Yes, Nink, that would qualify, I guess
Then again, I think of the Brits. You'd never see the Queen, Kate, the PM or his wife (or husband) ever getting off an official airplane dressed so casually. They apparently take the "office" seriously. If you're stepping out of Air Force One, maybe you should look like something other than a beach bum. After all, you are stepping off the official transport of the Office of the US President, paid for by the people of the United States. You're not jumping out of your personal Honda. Just a thought.
ETA...I'm not the president's wife or flying first class on the taxpayer dime and yet, even I don't board an airplane in shorts and flip flops.

Have you all forgotten that Biden had to drop his presidential bid because of plagiarism or that Obama had his own scandal involving plagiarism. McCain and Rand Paul have also been accused. And because you obviously don't realize, President Obama's scandal wasn't really a scandal at all, just more Republican attacking. Deval Patrick is President Obama's friend, and it was Deval Patrick's suggestion that the "just words" be used. BOTH have publicly acknowledged that and are in agreement. It's really funny when instead of saying "yep, they f'ed up" and own it, that the first reaction is to deflect, lie, and blame someone else. Plus, any other accusations of plagiarism--no matter who did it---are moot here. Just because some one plagiarized before does not make it okay for her/Trump to be doing it now. And they are making worse by lying about it. It isn't saying that it makes it okay, it's about noting the double standard that's ALWAYS applied by the Left. There's ALWAYS a reason given that it's okay for the left or ALWAYS a reason given that it doesn't matter when THEY do the same thing the Left is currently jumping up and down about the Right doing.

Read up on the Obama "scandal" and you find that he actually apologized and that the person who he was accused of plagiarism DEFENDED him. He actually took responsibility for and acknowledged that he should have given credit to Deval Patrick....that's not even close to what is going on today, in fact...just the opposite....the Trump campaign double down on there assertion that it wasn't plagiarism. Plagiarism Today I did. He didn't have permission to use Bush's speech.

Mrs. Obama is a Graduate of Harvard law. I would certainly consider that a pretty high level of education and therefore feel it's a safe assumption that she would have a keen understanding of plagiarism. And Melania wouldn't? Any one who completed middle school should understand the concept of plagiarism. When you say that Melania Trump shouldn't be expected to, you are demeaning her... I have to say that I taught university level courses (upper division, in fact) a few years ago, and so many students have no understanding what plagiarism is. I had 5 or 6 students in one class plagiarize from the internet and textbooks, and they seriously had NO IDEA that it was wrong. One even argued with me at length that cutting/pasting from the internet wasn't plagiarism. I subsequently did lessons on what is and is not plagiarism. And these students were studying to be English teachers.

...ummm... this whole thread is about one specific topic-- is that not okay, now?? I haven't looked, but I'm pretty sure if someone wanted to talk about the RNC, they are free to start all the other threads they want. ETA: my comment was in response to this, from Leftturnonly: "Melania wasn't the only speaker last night, and believe it or not, this is the person the Republicans are focused on right now. This whole thread is nothing but a deflection." Too bad you changed that so fast. I was all ready to rib you about getting the wrong Lefty. I put the outrage over Melania in perspective and was told this was a Trump misdirection to Hillary as a deflection from Melania. Melania is deflection from the seriousness of this election. I know nothing about Melania, couldn't really care less about her until this moment, and personally think this whole outrage over a supposed plagiarism (considering who has been the US VP for the past almost 8 years) is amusing. Here's a crazy idea that no one has considered here..... Helen Keller, the plaigerist. Melania speaks 5 languages. She must have some special ear for remembering what people say. Who's to say the same didn't happen with Michelle Obama's earlier speech? Whatever. I really just don't care. Y'all can continue to focus on one grain of sand on this entire beach if you want to.

Keep your hat. It'll help keep you warm while looking classy on the airplane we're all taking to see Melania getting sworn in as First Lady.

But I do think there's a difference between what a person wears on a commercial jet paid for by private citizens and what the wife of the president wears traveling on Air Force One.

What I really love is how some in the campaign are blaming Hillary for this flub. Nice try at deflection, but this particular boo-boo belongs to the Trump campaign. But don't worry; you'll have plenty of opportunity next week to take potshots at her. Melania wasn't the only speaker last night, and believe it or not, this is the person the Republicans are focused on right now. This whole thread is nothing but a deflection. no this whole thread is about a potential first lady and plagarism

I'm not voting for Milania Trump and I'm hoping she's not involved in policy decisions or whatever. I'd like her to be like Laura Bush. I don't want or need an unelected official simply because they are married to the person I vote for.

WHY is it that peas think that it's SO DAMN IMPORTANT to note in detail the broken portions of sentences that were repeated from one would-be First Lady by another? It's all about Trump. And you know how I know that? That's what's been said over and over throughout 7 pages. The sheer volume of outrage over inconsequential things on this board is overwhelming to me sometimes.

This is the meme that made me spit out my coffee this morning. After the things that have been said previously on this board and social media about our current First Lady, I have to admit that I'm enjoying the schadenfreude a little bit this morning. Bwahahaha!! I just saw this. Showed it to my husband and he did spit Pepsi, then choaked he laughed so hard.

I could not care less about any first lady and her campaign of special issues while in the White House. I wasn't going to listen to Melania Trump's speech. I care more about the guy who will take over if Trump dies while in office. I am annoyed now that she did something so stupid and it had be brought to our attention. Seriously, just say a meaningless speech that no one will remember. So now that she's done this, yes it makes me question her husband even more. They can't see blatant plagiarism and they deny, deny, deny. I guess they are taking pointers from Hillary Clinton on that one (e-mails).

That.
Honestly, I think the Melania thing will blow over quickly, but it's pretty funny right now. And it's a screw-up by the campaign. That actually is important to the election, Leftturnonly, whether you want to admit it or not. You might be comfortable with Trump's judgment, but many, many people are not, and he really needs to run his campaign better.

I don't understand how this could happen. I don't understand how people can't see what this entire family is like. And smart? My ex-husband has been in the US for 20 years, like Melania. He didn't speak English when he came over and he's older than she. His English is extraordinary. He has a tiny accent. Her accent is awful for having lived here so long. I have never heard her sound anything except like a robot repeating what she's told to say. do you expect that she loose her accent after a set amount of years? her accent is 'awful'? really? living in the US doesn't mean you have to completely wash away all traces of your history - good grief gina My parents have been in the states for 50 years and still have their Italian accent - and so what? Why is it awful? LAME statement!

I do admire Melania--she is beautiful, has worked hard at what she does in her life, and she's had her share of challenges (as we all do) Ok, everyone is going on and on about her credibility and admire her. WHY??? what has she done? What has she worked hard at? what are her challenges?? I can't imagine. I admire her for being able to stand that blow hard for all these years!

I swear that Trump camp is doing it on purpose too---he's so egotistical that he is going to put anything and everything right out in your face and preen, gloat, brag about it. He has no shame, no ethics, and nothing is off limits. Not a day goes by that he does not pull some stunt or surprise. Melania, in a speech she may or may not have primarily written by herself, said some of the same phrases in the same order that Michelle Obama did and the world goes into hysteria. AND... she wore a white dress that reminds peas of Bruce Caitlyn Jenner in an obvious "in your face" demonstration. OMG, humanity is doomed! Thank the dear Lord that no high ranking Democrat has ever stooped to such an unspeakable act. Wake me up, when September November ends. Isn't that the truth? So both of the potential first spouses play loose with the truth. I firmly recall the other staunchly defending his reputation "I did not have s$x with that woman, Monica Lewinsky". Yeah, that wasn't a lie.

Well, I don't think I've said anything about Donald, but yes about this speech. However, Americans have judged the first lady for some time. I'm not old enough to remember too far back, but I do remember When Bill was running, there was a bru-ha-ha over Hillary's headbands. And are we so simple minded that we can't think about/discuss this speech AND the presidential election?

As an immigrant and a person who lives in a city with a HUGE immigrant population, criticizing someone for their accent is, I don't know-ignorant? Rude? I take great offense to that. Having an accent is not an indicator of how much you have tried to learn the language or your intelligence. In fact, I will make the broad statement and say that people who speak multiple languages have a better grasp of English than a lot of Americans do. Furthermore, I think that criticizing her for "just being a mother" or a "model" is an asshole thing to say. Lots of peas would lose their shit if someone said they've done nothing with their lives because "they are just mothers." We shouldn't criticize Mrs. Trump for her life choices. I must say she has horrible taste in men, but MEH-we can all say that about each other, no?

I didn't say or imply that it was okay now, just pointing out that she wasn't the first and probably won't be the last. I guess I'm just amazed that people are flipping out over this (until they find another bone to chew on tonight) but more than willing to give Clinton a pass on her blatant lies.

ABC reports she only speaks 4 English, French, Serbian and German and we know how good her Engish it..Isn't Serbian and German pretty close? close? as in the languages are similar? no they aren't similar serbian is similar to russian...(serbian)they use both the cyrillic and latin alphabets - it's a slavic language german is - well a germanic language - like danish, swedish, icelandic and dutch english is closer to german than serbian is -it's also a germanic language french is a romantic language - similar to italian, spanish, and portuguese so she is fluent in three distinctly different language types - that's impressive - but no uncommon for europeans gina
