You know this stuff is so frustrating. I know a woman in med school who was in the miss America pageant. She won for her state and took a year off to be Miss State. Everyone gave her shit. She is gorgeous. But that doesn't make her stupid or unable to do other things or have other interests. I don't know anything about her, maybe she is that shallow. But why would you just assume that? I am NOT assuming she is dumb or shallow at all. I am saying what I said based off what she has DONE with her life, what she cont's to do, and shown us so far. Show me more!!! SHOW me something! that would make me believe otherwise. KWIM? I don't think someone has credibility or to be admired because they are beautiful?? wow, how shallow of me. NOT She isn't running for an office. What does she owe you and why? I admire her ability to speak 5 languages. I didn't know that until this thread, but I find that pretty amazing, I can barely stammer a few phrases in German and Sign Language. It's enough to get by but I'm sure I look and sound ridiculous trying to string together something coherent. Either way. You pointed out that she would show us fashion or something. It sounded like a pretty shallow reason for not liking someone. I don't admire her for being pretty, but I do admire that she is fit even after having a child (same with Michele Obama), etc.

We get it. On one plane, you can wear flip flops and shorts. On the other, you can not.
It's an important rule, to be sure.

I don't understand how this could happen. I don't understand how people can't see what this entire family is like. And smart? My ex-husband has been in the US for 20 years, like Melania. He didn't speak English when he came over and he's older than she. His English is extraordinary. He has a tiny accent. Her accent is awful for having lived here so long.
I have never heard her sound anything except like a robot repeating what she's told to say. What a crappy thing to say. Im going to go on a limb and say that her accent has nothing to do with how intelligent she is. Im sorry. I know people hate Trump, and by default hate Melania. But this is wrong.

I think perhaps this was intentional by Trump.
By focusing on Melania nobody else is discussing the rest of the convention. Giuliani's frothing and amazing speakers like Scott Baio, lol.

And because you obviously don't realize, President Obama's scandal wasn't really a scandal at all, just more Republican attacking. Deval Patrick is President Obama's friend, and it was Deval Patrick's suggestion that the "just words" be used. BOTH have publicly acknowledged that and are in agreement. It's really funny when instead of saying "yep, they f'ed up" and own it, that the first reaction is to deflect, lie, and blame someone else. Plus, any other accusations of plagiarism--no matter who did it---are moot here. Just because some one plagiarized before does not make it okay for her/Trump to be doing it now. And they are making worse by lying about it. It isn't saying that it makes it okay, it's about noting the double standard that's ALWAYS applied by the Left. There's ALWAYS a reason given that it's okay for the left or ALWAYS a reason given that it doesn't matter when THEY do the same thing the Left is currently jumping up and down about the Right doing. It is freaking amazing that you don't even realize the irony of your post Gia. Lindas was posting EXACTLY what you have stated that the LEFT ALWAYS DOES. She did the " tit for tat" --It's just not one party who has exclusive rights to ""ALWAYS HAVING A DOUBLE STANDARD" You really cannot have a unbiased conversation. Plagiarism is wrong no matter who does it. I just happened to point out the fact that it wasn't what she said in one of her examples. Posted some facts.

One Democrats opinion:
I think she did a fantastic job last night. I cannot imaging how hard it was knowing 35 plus million people were watching - let alone not speaking in her native language.
Many of the news shows today were saying she is a big fan of Michelle Obama. I bet she read speeches of former First Ladies and potential First Ladies have given at the convention. Somewhere when writing the speech-she picked up Michelle Obamas words. I think on her part it was an innocent mistake.
The problem is - no one in then campaign caught this. This speech should have been passed by fact checkers and speech writers. Someone in that process dropped the ball.
If they would have said that a mistake had been made-this would have been dropped. Most are saying this on the news channels - even msnbc.
The handling of this situation is the problem for me. Mistakes happen - admit it and move on. Trump can't do that because he thinks he is perfect.
This Democrat would never under any circumstances vote for Trump but I feel that Malania let down by the campaign.
Btw - I think she looked absolutely stunning.

Have you all forgotten that Biden had to drop his presidential bid because of plagiarism or that Obama had his own scandal involving plagiarism. McCain and Rand Paul have also been accused. And because you obviously don't realize, President Obama's scandal wasn't really a scandal at all, just more Republican attacking. And they are making worse by lying about it. Let's get something straight, I did not 'deflect'. Had that been my intention I wouldn't have included McCain and Paul in my post. I didn't 'lie'. I never said any of them were guilty, only that they had been accused. And no where did I blame anyone.

Yes I did read your post and I stand by my remark. I think the difference between you and me is I know I'm biased . If Malania comes off Air Force One naked, I'll have a big problem with it. If Michelle wears shorts and flip flops coming out of a private plane or vehicle I'll have no problem with it. You don't seem to understand the difference between a mode of transportation that is paid for by the American taxpayer and one that is not I mostly inderstand that you have a double standard

Serious question. But isn't it important to know what kind of husband and man he is, as that is part of who he is and how he will "be a leader"? There seems to be little historic correlation between a good husband and strong leader/good president. Barack Obama - wonderful family man. Unfortunately, a bit too thin-skinned and lacking in consensus-building skills.

The Trump campaign and their surrogates had a chance to mitigate this. There are things they could have said that would have made it better. But once again, the have doubled-down instead of owning up. The more they talk, the more stupid stubborn they sound. I dislike both candidates (am looking for a party of fiscal responsibility and limited government - if you hear of one, would you let me know??) but both of our illustrious candidates do this. We have just seen numerous examples of Hillary doing this over and over with the Benghazi and email situations. I would have much more respect for any candidate that would take responsibility.

Yes, Nink, that would qualify, I guess Then again, I think of the Brits. You'd never see the Queen, Kate, the PM or his wife (or husband) ever getting off an official airplane dressed so casually. They apparently take the "office" seriously. If you're stepping out of Air Force One, maybe you should look like something other than a beach bum. After all, you are stepping off the official transport of the Office of the US President, paid for by the people of the United States. You're not jumping out of your personal Honda. Just a thought. ETA...I'm not the president's wife or flying first class on the taxpayer dime and yet, even I don't board an airplane in shorts and flip flops. It would probably be a good thing for a First Lady of the US to not have naked photos of themselves floating around the internet.

If she poses nude on Air Force One, THAT will be a problem! (I'm being sarcastic... If anyone wonders...)

I don't disagree. But I'm willing to let the past go. If she's doing it now or when the white house, I'd have a big problem. But I'm not going to dismiss her because she was a model in the past.

I've already stated why I feel it's a problem on Air Force 1. You don't accept that reason. You know exactly the distinction I make and you choose to make fun it. I expect nothing less from you and it doesn't make my position hypocritical. Flip flops and jeans/shorts etc are inappropriate for a presidential family riding Air Force One.

I could not care less about any first lady and her campaign of special issues while in the White House. I wasn't going to listen to Melania Trump's speech. I care more about the guy who will take over if Trump dies while in office. I am annoyed now that she did something so stupid and it had be brought to our attention. Seriously, just say a meaningless speech that no one will remember. So now that she's done this, yes it makes me question her husband even more. They can't see blatant plagiarism and they deny, deny, deny. I guess they are taking pointers from Hillary Clinton on that one (e-mails). THANK YOU! That's exactly how I felt! And LeftTurn, this thread was created by me SIMPLY to discuss Melania's speech and the outcome of such. This wasn't created to discuss Trump. However, as someone who hasn't hear everything about Trump's real thoughts and plans for the Presidency, I did peek in only to find a real circus going on. Antonio Sabato Jr??? Chache? ? The Duck Dynasty guy??? That's all he came up with? It was terrible + I didn't hear anything but hatred and more hatred. Stop spewing hate and tell me more about the positive things you want done. What I heard last night terrifies me. I am interested to hear much, much more about the possible-future-vice-president, and I hope he gets to speak more than he did on 60 Minutes, because he got cut off nearly every time he opened his mouth! As far as Melania goes, I was hoping to learn more about her, other than what I've seen thusfar: www.google.com/search?q=melania+trump+pics&biw=1366&bih=628&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjP_sjU5YDOAhWHmh4KHaODDlUQ_AUIBigB#tbm=isch&q=melania+trump+naked&imgrc=E2sSgDzS7dfR7M%3A

Where is that rule written, again?? (and I'm really seriously asking why are you debating this particular point when the Obamas are LEAVING office in a number of months, anyway? What does this have to do with the upcoming election? unless you're trying to draw some sort of comparison, but I still really don't get the connection.)

SockMonkey: You said this: "Of all the concerns I have about a Trump presidency (and there are very, very many), Melania as First Lady is literally last on the list. Dead. Ass. Last." And a few other Peas posted similar sentiments, BUT, *I* created this thread JUST to discuss and dissect Melania's partially-stolen speeech. But now that you said it, this shouldn't be LAST on the list. This should just be another addition to Trump's lack of character. I'm not surprised by it because I was a New Yorker for 48 years and I remember enough about him. He should have held this whole conference to a higher level. This is the beginning of the real deal, so he needs to REALLY prove that he's got a good team of people behind him. Instead, it's a circus. "Tons of celebrities" dropped out of appearing for last night. Tons of singers/songwriters told Trump outright that he had no right to use their music in conjunction with his campaign. That speaks volumes to me. But even more than that, Trump bragging about keeping a small circle of people on his team is a concern. He's so haughty that he doesn't think he needs anything more than his own mouth speaking in soundbytes. It's obvious that he needs more experienced, professional people on his team, including better speech writers.
