Wedding favors, yes or no? Waste of money? What to get? I don't wanna buy 500 of some monogrammed something or other and carry 412 back home with me. Lol
I'm making program fans that will have our picture on them because it's an outdoor ceremony, will that serve as a favor as well?
I always feel feel like the bride and groom just wasted money on something I'm just gonna toss in a drawer.

I think it's a huge waste of money, unless it is something like chocolates or candy, something consumable. Everybody takes the other favors home and tosses them or leaves them setting on the table when they leave.

I did CD favors before CD favors were a thing. Went over great! We have people mention that they're still playing them many years later.
I helped a friend make 300 caramel chocolate pretzel rods. They also went over great.
I think food favors really are my favorite these days. Cookies, truffles, gum, Altoids, chocolate bars.

Food favors are good, anything else is generally a waste of money.

I personally like wedding favors (and shower favors). But I am fine with them being pretty much anything. So, you know, a little bag of hershey's kisses is as cool to me as a personalized water bottle. I would notice if there weren't any, but it wouldn't cause me to come post here about what a terrible wedding it was because I didn't get a favor. One thing I did really like was one cousin used silver LUGGAGE TAGS as place cards! So far, I've never seen another silver luggage tag at the airport. I was browsing etsy and they have some cute personalized ones, although I'm sure my cousin got the silver ones for way less than the $4-5 each the etsy artists are charging. So if you do really want to do a favor, think about things that people can use long after the wedding. Or food.

The fans will be fine.
The last few weddings that I have been to have had some kind of food item for a favor. Even then, unless it wasn't high quality, it wasn't eaten. If it was something to take home, it was usually left behind.

DD had little mesh bags with a few kisses and a few buttermints in it. They were put at each place setting when we set the tables (the food was served buffet style, but we set the silverware/napkins/confetti packs/favors at each chair ahead of time). We have some left over, but they still tasted yummy even a month later.

We put little glassine bags with M&Ms in them. We had zero leftovers.

I say skip them. I am not a fan. But a FAN would be great for an outdoor wedding!

My brother and SIL gave small jars of my moms homemade salsa. They were a huge hit and everyone was looking for more to take home. They were quick to grab unclaimed ones of tables at the end of the night.

I think you're totally fine with the fans. Be done. I hate wedding favors! Unless it's something I can eat right there (a small candy), I don't want it.

One of the biggest expenses for me was my candy bar and I used that as wedding favors. I made custom gift bags for my people then had clear bags for people to put their candy in. I also had a hot chocolate bar (married in Dec..snow was everywhere). So for us it was a hit.

I'm not a fan of sweets, so food favors are wasted on me. One wedding I went to, they used tiny, crystal/glass picture frames as place cards/favors for the tables. I still have those frames and the photos in them have changed through the years, but they still bring back a nice memory of the wedding. L

I think the fans sound perfect. I agree with the others that should be something consumable if you feel like you need to get something else. We did cookies for ours. They were fancy, really good cookies and people asked us for a long time afterwards where we got them from.

You can never go wrong with M&M's. My niece and new nephew-in-law did three different CDs (different types of music) at their wedding last year and people just took whichever ones they wanted. That was a big hit. I also think not doing any favors is just fine. Weddings are so over the top!

Glassware seems to be popular in my neck of the woods. A good portion of my drinking glasses are from weddings.

I went to a wedding at an outdoor chapel once that had a steepish trail you had to walk down and they had flip flops for people to wear if their footwear wasn't appropriate (high heels, slick bottomed sandals, etc) and we kept them as the favor. My sister had a photo booth at her wedding and the pictures were the favor. If I were a guest at your wedding, I'd assume the fan was my favor and wouldn't expect anything else.

We're doing chocolate lobsters from a local candy maker, but we're only having 50 guests. If it were going to be a larger wedding I'm not so sure we'd even do favors...it's kind of an unnecessary expense.

My daughter and SIL did a donation to a cancer charity instead of doing favors, everyone thought it was a great idea.

My daughter and SIL did a donation to a cancer charity instead of doing favors, everyone thought it was a great idea. I had a cousin do that as well. To announce it, they had signs set up at the entry to the reception hall by their guest "book" (two large white photo mats the couple planned to use to frame their photos later).

I like favors, if it seems as if the couple put some thought in to them. DH and gave out glass coasters that said "love". I liked them, and our wedding song was L-O-V-E by Nat King Cole so it went along with the theme.
I've been to weddings where part of the favor was a matchbook with the bride and groom's names and wedding date. #nobueno.

Not a fan of wedding favors unless they are something to eat. Trinkets to take home are nearly always put directly into a donation bag. If there are edible favors, I prefer when they set up a candy bar, or table of treats (cupcakes, cookies, etc) near the door that I can take as I leave the wedding. It's too easy to forget them on the table, or have to go all the way back across the room to retrieve it when you are ready to leave and your feet are killing you.
Your idea of fans for an outdoor wedding sounds perfect.
