What does that even mean? Nothing. Absolutely nothing...as usual. Trump just trying to stay relevant. Or attention whore!

Favorte interview of the night: MSNBC was interviewing a young Bernie delegate.,she was very upset, cried during his speech. She was upset that the convention was all about Hillary. And she was mad that they made Bernie speak last. She thought they were disrespecting him by making him go last. Lordy... I did notice a lot of his supporters tearing up. They seem very passionate about him. I wonder were there supporters like that for Cruz when he spoke?

I wrote earlier that I don't watch the conventions anymore 'cause they're so slick and canned. But I walked in the room tonight in the middle of Michelle Obama's speech and stayed through Bernie Sanders. Wow. What a first night. I wonder if they can keep up the momentum. As somebody upthread said, these are my people! It felt good. 'Cept those Sanders brats. I align closely with him philosophically, but all those petulant Millennials are a buncha' poopers. Boo-hiss, indeed. So, leftturnonly, you ol' lefty: 'fess up. At whom were you yelling? Just name names.

I'm sitting here watching my computer screen & just realized I called it a TV.
I'm hopeless sometimes.

I had the tv on, half listening and pretty uninspired until Al Franken and Sarah Silverman came on and I loved the way they addressed the need to unite under Clinton. I really think she was about the most perfect, outspoken Bernie supporter to (hopefully) get the message across. IRL, I know many passionate Bernie supporters that need time to process their disappointment and are listening. I have huge respect for the way Bernie has handled his own disappointment.
The best parts of the night were Cory Booker and Michelle Obama. For both I stopped what I was doing and just watched & listened. I sincerely hope she stays in public life going forward.

This was truly an inspiring night!
Corey Booker gave the commencement address for DS's graduation in May, and it was so passionate and inspiring. We all walked away huge fans. He is certainly a future candidate. He really rocked it tonight!
Michelle's speech was so touching. What a great moment for her! Elizabeth Warren had the necessary task of addressing the odious opponent. I though she did a great job of it. Loved Al Franken! Bernie was gracious and just right for the night. His supporters seem to be a little out of touch with reality, don't they?
Truth be told, I like all of the above better than Hillary. Good thing it's something of a package deal. They're going to hold her accountable so she doesn't screw up their future plans.

I'm on vacation and without TV access, so I couldn't watch, but I read the transcript of Michelle's speech and it was wonderful. The warmth and positivity are such a nice contrast from last week. Off to read the others!

I am not unbiased here. I won't talk about who had me yelling at the TV. You NEED to find Michelle's and Cory's speeches. Is that because they used parts of other people's speeches? Help a girl out...? (but I admit that during the plagiarism discussion, I wondered if there was a pass given to using direct quotes from speeches so well known that we recognize it right away? Like if some one used part of the 'shining city on the hill' speech? Probably a discussion best left to when I have had more coffee...)

I didn't watch but read some excerpts from Michelle Obama's speech. I definitely want to watch a video of it.
Sounds like they really nailed the first night and shifted the focus from the DNC scandal preceding the convention to a positive message. That is what Clinton needs to do. You don't win the presidency telling everyone how 'terrible' everything is. You have to give people hope, a way to fix what they think is wrong and recognize what is going right.

Michelle's and Cory's speeches were wonderful and I cried! And one thing about Elizabeth Warren that I didn't know, she was born in Oklahoma. That explains to me why the "claim of American Indian blood. Most people who was born and raised in Oklahoma have stories of Indian blood. Oklahoma is where the tribes were moved to in the 1830's.
We were told growing up by our grandmother (on dads side) that our great-grandfather was part Cherokee. We told people we had Cherokee blood. On my mother's side we were told we had some Creek blood. So yes we "claimed to be part American Indian. Well I started doing our genealogy and guess what we are NOT any part American Indian! My siblings and cousins were none to happy at my finding this.

Michelle's speech was amazing.
Best tweet I saw this morning: " If you missed the speech by the FLOTUS at last night's DNC, just wait a few days as I'm sure Melainia Trump will give it."
Lol.

You don't win the presidency telling everyone how 'terrible' everything is. You have to give people hope, a way to fix what they think is wrong and recognize what is going right. This. I'm reminded of my beloved preaching professor, Rev. William "Bobby" McClain, whose continual mantra to us was to preach "not just the law, but HOPE". He'd get going in front of the class about "brothers and sisters, do not just preach the law [i.e., telling people how they've erred, how things are bad]. You must preach HOPE also! The law AND hope! If I EVER come to hear you preach at your church and I hear you not preaching hope I will take back your diploma!" and It actually wasn't really funny because he was a scary guy. Wonderful, but scary. Every word out of his mouth was a sermon, in the style that mostly only the African-American preachers can pull off. Anyway, I just thought of that when I read this comment. Dr. McLain's point was that it's fine, and often necessary, to point out what's wrong with something. But then give people hope -- hope on how they can change things, hope that they can be part of the change, hope that we're doing okay now but we do have problems that we can solve together. That's what I heard last night. (and now I'm having flashbacks to my very first sermon ever, that I preached in his class... omg. -- And yes, he did take his own admonitions to heart -- he gave us good feedback, said what we did well, then told us how to fix all the places where we needed to improve.)

Damn, Michelle, you are KILLING IT. "I wake up every day in a house that was built by slaves." "Don't ever let anyone tell you this country isn't great. That we need to make it great again. This right now is the greatest country on earth." Not quite correct. The original White House was built by free blacks, whites of several nationalities and slaves. The part of the White House she wakes up in was actually rebuilt in 1949, no slave labor used. Now we're the greatest country on earth but 8 years ago she must have felt differently when she say "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country."

This is what people sit around thinking about? Whether the White House was literally built only by slave labor or whether it was built partly by slave labor? Whether the specific part of the White House that Michelle Obama sleeps in was built by slave labor, or only some other section? And whether that makes her claim factually inaccurate? And perhaps if you walked in Michelle Obama's shoes for a while, you would understand why she made the statement she made in 2008.
