SO many things to say. Just going to quote Busy, agree with Lucy, and move on.

I am not unbiased here. I won't talk about who had me yelling at the TV. You NEED to find Michelle's and Cory's speeches. Is that because they used parts of other people's speeches? Help a girl out...? (but I admit that during the plagiarism discussion, I wondered if there was a pass given to using direct quotes from speeches so well known that we recognize it right away? Like if some one used part of the 'shining city on the hill' speech? Probably a discussion best left to when I have had more coffee...) I think you just helped clarify a little better why I thought the outrage over Melania's speech was so overdone. So, thank you. But no, that has nothing to do with the disagreements I have with basic Democratic policies that makes me argue with my TV/Screen. There are so many other threads where I've elaborated on those issues, I'm not going to do it here. It was very dispiriting to only have this place to talk about the RNC convention and have it ridiculed so much. I won't do that to people excited about the DNC convention.

They very easily could have done that in Melania's speech, or simply said afterward that it was accidentally omitted. Done.

Not quite correct. The original White House was built by free blacks, whites of several nationalities and slaves. The part of the White House she wakes up in was actually rebuilt in 1949, no slave labor used. Do you give a master class in missing the point? Busypea-just so you know-I'm stealing your line IRL. Perfect.

Damn, Michelle, you are KILLING IT. "I wake up every day in a house that was built by slaves." "Don't ever let anyone tell you this country isn't great. That we need to make it great again. This right now is the greatest country on earth." Not quite correct. The original White House was built by free blacks, whites of several nationalities and slaves. The part of the White House she wakes up in was actually rebuilt in 1949, no slave labor used. Now we're the greatest country on earth but 8 years ago she must have felt differently when she say "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country." Seriously???

I just want to take a minute to hijack this thread and call out leftturnonly. I know you aren't a fan of the party and its policies, Lefty, and I really respect how positive you have been about Michelle Obama and Cory Booker in this thread. The whole plagiarism of the speech thing bothered me with Melania Trump, but I was honestly more bothered by the people mocking her appearance and accent. So, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your positive contribution to this side of the discussion.
