You know, these: Why you may ask? Because I went to see the Jason Bourne movie last night. I was fascinatingly distracted by the fact that the main female character worn one of these types of clips in her hair almost the entire movie. No matter what she was wearing, casual or professional, the clip was prominently displayed. At one point, it was so obviously there that I wondered if it was some kind of ironic CIA techno toy. Are they back in style? I kind of thought they had been relegated to yard work day and washing your face at night. But this lazy hair tending girl sure wouldn't mind if all I had to do was twist and clip... Or is this just the fact that really it is a 'boy' movie and no one told them that the clip was a no go? Or did the makers of the clip pay a butt load of money for their product to be so prominently placed that it might have been a supporting player in the drama?? (I have spent way more time contemplating the clip than I really should have... )

I don't know if they're back in style, but I wear them fairly frequently.
That's weird that the actress had one the whole time.

I only use them when I'm blow drying, they won't hold my hair when it's dry it's too soft!

I'm with you. Holding the hair I'm not working on while blowdrying, keeping my hair out of my eyes when I'm working AT HOME, and weeding. They're awesome for that, but those sure aren't a fashion statement.
ETA: How was the movie other than the hair clip?

I heard someone as I was walking out of the movie say that it was definitely a Jason Bourne movie, and they were exactly right. Car chases, lots of things on fire, fight scenes, bad guys, good guys, all the fun of that kind of movie. Not a deeply (or even slightly) intellectual movie by any measure. I am such a 'boy' though, I love these kind of movies.

Idk if they are out or in but they help pull hair off my neck in this hot weather so that's all I care about.

I also don't know if they are in or out again but my 20yo who tends to follow trends recently brought home a pack of these and has been using them occasionally. I never used them because they never held my thick hair, always slipping.

Well I use them all the the time around the house, out and about, and to work. Even if they're not on trend, they work for me.

I don't know if they are in style or not, but I wish I could figure out a way to make my ponytail look cute and put together rather than like I am ready to go to the gym. Does anyone have tips for that?! Lol

This is so funny, I noticed that and moved on. I've rarely had hair long enough for a ponytail or "putting up", makes me clueless to some trends.

Wear one everyday for work ...mine are the ones with 6 teeth though. They keep my hair up (required) but less damaging than a hair tie. I have these little mini ones, too. I use them around the house cleaning or gardening. They work so well. I have a hard hard time wearing them out in public though. I'm not sure why, but they just don't feel very stylish. Lol!

I have tried the fold over bang twist as well as some of the curling tutorials and mine never turns out quite right. I think I am hair challenged.

I wear one to hold my hair up while I'm cooking...I'm paranoid about dropping hair into food that I'm serving to others. I always have one in my purse to put my hair up on a hot day or if the wind is blowing my hair around.

I've been wearing hair clips for years, usually to pull my bangs up and back, a great way to hide gray roots. The absolute best brand I've found is Alexandre de Paris. Best quality and the teeth never break. I figure if there is a shop dedicated to hair accessories like these on the Rue Saint Honore' in Paris, I'm good style-wise! The next best brand I've found is France Luxe. Save I don't know if they are in style or not, but I wish I could figure out a way to make my ponytail look cute and put together rather than like I am ready to go to the gym. Does anyone have tips for that?! Lol I just saw these customizable hair charms that you put on a ponytail holder. Like a Pandora bracelet for your hair. Best part is this one can be worn in your hair or on your wrist! Would look so much better than the elastic band DD always seems to have around her wrist!

I'm in my 50's and I purchased some really cute small clips. I don't think I'm too old for them at all. When it's really hot outside I am all about comfort.

Long hair here. Hate those clips. When my MIL died my dreadful SIL wore one to the funeral and I thought "What a lovely plastic thing to wear to your mothers funeral (bitch)". This was about 15 years ago. I use the tiny clear butterfly clips to hold my bun. My hair is in layers so when I bun I get spurts of hair coming out. Those little butterflies are great.

I confess that I will do whatever it takes to keep my hair off my neck & out of my face when it's hot. Elastics, hair clips, I don't care.
The ones in the op don't work for me because the prongs end up digging into my head. I need the ones the are more like zig zags that meet, if that makes any sense. But, they have the same look and I will wear them in public. I have found that no matter what I look like when I leave the house, there's always someone who looks less put together than me, lol.

Not sure why it matters so much what your SIL wore in her hair to a funeral. Sounds like you are channeling a strong dislike of her into the plastic hair clip. Just comes across strange, especially since you admit to wearing clear butterfly clips, which are plastic. Save

Unless your SIL is a bitch in other ways I don't see the hair clip as an issue. I'll tell you making my hair 'perfect' on the day if my mother's funeral was the LAST thing on my mind. Not to mention, the day of your mother's funeral is a tough tough day to look in the mirror at all much less for any t length of time to style hair. You notice resemblances you didn't notice before, you become emotional. I probably had my hair in a clip for my mother's funeral. Not sure if it was plastic or metal or what. But I certainly did not care. If people judged me too bad

The very small clear ones are almost invisible. But whatevs.

I don't know if they are in style or not, but I wish I could figure out a way to make my ponytail look cute and put together rather than like I am ready to go to the gym. Does anyone have tips for that?! Lol I know exactly what you mean! I tend to tie my hair up all the time (I desperately need a good cut right now) because I get hot and sweaty so easily these days. I was messing with my hair one day and I tried something that actually worked well enough for me to wear it out in public. I always separate my hair when I dry it, as most people do, I'm sure. It gave me the idea to try doing that with a ponytail. I separated it at about 1/3 to the top with 2/3 to the bottom of my head. Twist the top 1/3 up to get it out of the way and put the bottom 2/3 into a pony tail. I have been using these flat elastic ribbon looking things that hold my hair up, but don't catch and pull it out when I remove them, but use whatever works in your hair to hold it in a decent ponytail. Now with the 2/3 bottom in a pony, I then use root spray on the top 1/3 to give it some volume. I loosely guide it back to the existing ponytail and use another elastic to go over all the hair into one ponytail. If I have pulled anything too tight on the crown area, I can easily take the tail end of a comb and slide it under that section at the crown and give it a little lift. Because there is so little hair in that last elastic, the hair comes out nice and easy when you pull up whatever sections you need to repair. That's it. It is just a ponytail divided in thirds to give you the control you need on that crown portion. I sometimes curl my hair before I do this, which makes it look much nicer. But most often, I do it when my hair is air dried and slightly wavy. It is just to be able to run to the store and look a little bit more put together than I do when I'm at home. Does this make sense? SaveSave

Well whateva I wear them... mainly the smaller ones, the bigger one around the house... And if need be I would wear one to a funeral. I am not sure why that would be such an issue for anyone.. but whatever.

I wear those all the time because it's always hot here or I'm hot. My hair stylist says that if you use the nicer looking ones (like those, not the super cheap painted plastic ones) that that is a hairstyle. I don't care either way, I'd die if I didn't have my hair off my neck in the summer. And I think my hair looks fine when I twist it up and clip it in place. They now make them with a silicone gripper thing in them that holds much better than the old ones did.
