So I just read they are rebooting the Mummy. With Tom Cruise. I kind of get the rebooting old movies (like ones that were originally black and white). But this one isn't even that old. And Tom Cruise, really?

I love Mummy movies and they aren't done nearly as often as other creature flicks. So I was okay with it till I heard it had Tom Cruise. Bleck!

I recently rewatched 'No Way Out' (Kevin Costner) and thought that it would be a great movie to remake.
But no Tom Cruise. Please.

It all sounded fairly good until Tom Cruise's name appeared. Yuck!
I recently watched the original three Mummy-movies with Brendan Fraser, and they are so much fun!

When the actor you're using for the reboot is older than the actor that did the original, it's a nope.

I love the Mummy movies! I like Brendan Frasier! Tom Cruise...not so much.
They're also doing Ocean's 11 with an all female cast.

so many reboots when there's probably amazing movies out there to be made by unknown writers.

Ok, I can totally get behind the Ocean's 11 remake because they are doing something different with it. The Mummy with Tom Cruise? Not so much. Especially since it means the female parts are going to be total throw away parts now. One of The Mummy's redeeming qualities was the lead female had a great part and was brought back for the second movie. I hate the "so insignificant we can toss her away for a new girl every movie" crap that action movies do.

I've also heard they are redoing Clue and Dirty Dancing. Those are two movies that I'd rather be left alone.
I think Hollywood has reached the point where, unless it's based on a novel or comic book, all they can do is regurgitate. It seems like most of the original thought and talent disappeared after the writer's strike a few years back.
As for The Mummy, I was reading about how Hollywood is relaunching many of the "classic" horror movies, the Mummy among them. It made it sound like it was not a reboot of the Frasier one, which was my original fear. So maybe there's hope?

I like reboot of OLD movies.. The Mummy old??? Noooo....
I loved the reboot of Miracle on 34th Street...It kept the traditions of the old movie and just made it new again. There should be a rule... everyone in an original movie must have passed away before redoing it. LOL....
Next thing you will hear they will make a reboot of a movie that is still in the theater...
I guess I should go finally watch the Mummy.. never did see it...
Edited to add: I did a little research and sounds like the Mummy is going to be different. It's going to take more from the original 1930's version.. I don't know?? Maybe it is just all around going to be different with the same theme???

Vote with your money! And, unless Tom Cruise IS the Mummy, I can't seeing it being feasible.

They are also seni-rebooting Oceans 11 with an all women cast. it will be titled "Oceans 8".
I'm getting a little tired of all the rebooting too. I can't believe, with all the talented screenwriters out there, that they can't bring out more fresh and original material. BUT, I've read many times that Hollywood likes to make movies that people are already familiar with so it provides them with a built in audience. that's why sequels and reboots were so popular during the last decade. but now movie audiences are fatigued by all of the reruns of everything. so are television viewers. it's the same thing with tv too.

OH HELL NO! Rick is a tall manly man, not a short f'ing pipsqueak. I live brendon frasier.
Stay with ruining Reacher tommy boy.
And really, I feel the only reason the 3rd mummy movie didn't work is that Rachel weisz didn't play Eve.

She was Evie. I watch the first two whenever I catch them on television. Can not pass it up. LOL! Plus, I have them on DVD in case I need a fix. Have watched them so many times. Number 3, I saw exactly once and have no interest in watching it ever again. It's an imposter!

The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are two of my favorite movies, and I don't even like monster/horror/scary movies. I can't imagine a Tom Cruise version that I'd like.
I'm getting a little tired of the remakes and reboots, too. I managed to survive The A-Team movie. And I've enjoyed the Star Trek reboot. I don't know about Ben-Hur, though. Charlton Heston will always be Ben-Hur to me.

But that Mummy was the one that was rebooted in 1999, it's not even 20 years old yet and they are rebooting it... again. Or Spiderman (2002) which was rebooted in 2012 and since that was 4 whole years ago I think it's time for a reboot of the reboot of the reboot. Who needs originals when you can just remake the same movie every other year.

I'd be extremely happy with new ideas, as well... instead of going 'the easy route' to be ensured that they'll make money at the box office, for, what-- the first two weekends worth of box office take, now, is all they shoot for, I think??
They wouldn't have to be so concerned about the box office take if they'd make something GOOD- and for just a BIT cheaper than however many tens-of-millions of dollars they feel they 'need' to spend nowadays.

The cast had such fantastic chemistry, one of my all time favorite movies.

I'm just kind of flummoxed that Tom Cruise would even be considered for The Mummy? Has he even had a box office hit recently? Is there anyone left who actually likes him or enjoys his acting?

I am sick of them remaking movies, too. Some things need to be left alone. I have no desire to see the new Ghostbusters at all. the only movies I can think of that I enjoyed that were re-made are the Star Trek movies. I have really enjoyed them. I may not have watched the older ones, though, even though they were of my time. LOL
