Silly storage question (tupperware)

I have one of those old-fashioned flour bin drawer/cupboard things. I have all my Tupperware stored in there. I have all the lids (that will fit) in one of the large modular mate cannisters. I have some of those Gladware containers and they are stacked in a cupboard with the lids in them or next to them (or under them). To me, storing with the lids on is a total waste of space.

I have them all stacked inside of each other and the lids all gathered together and on their sides next to the containers.

I keep them in a deep drawer. So the containers are nested and the lids are either underneath the stack or tucked in next to them. No way could I store them with the lids on...that would take up so much room.

I put the lids on all of my Tupperware (and Decor etc) and stack them in the cupboard. I know that I would save a TON of room if I stacked the containers inside each other without the lids but I got so damn sick and tired of trying to find lids that I store them all with the lids on now. 

I have a basket in my 'tupperware' cupboard for the lids only....and the containers are just stacked inside each other.

Every year, I play the 'match the damn lid to a stupid container' game and organise the cupboard - any left overs get turfed (unless I am 100.643% sure I know where the other half is)

This is my system. Every container is stored with lid on it and kept in a deep drawer. No more listening to family ask me where the lids to the bowls!

I solved that problem by recycling all the generic Cool Whip type containers and donating anything that didn't nest together. Then I supplemented with additional pieces that we use all the time that all take the same type and size of lids.

So now I have 2-3 sets of tall, medium and short larger Tupperware microwaveable bowls that all take the same size lids, and I have a two smaller sets of Tupperware microwaveable bowls that all take the same size lids. So, two sizes of lids that fit six sizes of bowls. It's pretty easy to see which bowls take which lids because they're very obviously different. The bowls are all nested together in a Lazy Susan Tupperware cabinet with the lids stacked next to them on end. They're held upright by a Tupperware lid holder that is used for a small collection of take and toss type Gladware things that also all take one size lid that I keep on hand for those times when I want to send food with someone, etc.

I also have a couple very large bowls that I use for making pasta salads, cut up watermelon and other volume stuff like that in a different cabinet. The lids for those bowls sit underneath the bowl itself on the shelf.

We cook at home almost every night and we reheat and eat leftovers. There is no way we could get by with a handful of containers for stuff like that.

No, that would take up more room than I want to dedicate to storage containers. I have a drawer that lids go in and a cabinet above it with the bowls, which are stacked. Once a year I match them up and toss any that have lost their mate.

I don't have much space so bowls are stacked. Lids are above the stove nearby. I do have one really big bowl with a lid that goes above my fridge in a bigger cabinet. My smaller plastic containers are in a drawer in their own ziploc bag with lids. Cheap, plastic containers (the type that lunch meat is sold in) are in the pantry with the lids in a basket. When the basket is overflowing with lids, I throw some out.

Most of mine is stored with the lid on. But most of them aren't stackable without the lid. My Crystalwave is stacked without lids and the lids are stored in a loaf pan on the same shelf.

I have 2 long narrow cabinets that I thought would be useless, but it turned out to be perfect to hold all my lids. One holds all my plastic lids and the other has all my pots and pans lids.

Until now I have stacked lids and containers separately. We have a bottom cabinet in our kitchen dedicated to the containers and I have three narrow but tall dollar store bins that hold the containers (nested) and lids. One bin for squares, one for rectangles and one for round.

But it is still really difficult to find lids for the containers and I have noticed that DH is becoming increasingly frustrated with it when he packs his lunch so obviously the system isn't working. I think I will try matching containers to lids and storing them with the lids on. I know we don't have enough room to keep all we have stored that way but really, how much do we need?

And to answer your broader question about how we keep our kitchen organized - NOT WELL AT ALL. And I really, really appreciate having an organized home. We were both already established in our own homes when we married and combined households last year and we have way too much of lots of things. I really need to go through and weed out things we don't need but it just seems wasteful to get rid of so much. I'm thinking I'll box it up and store it in the garage so we will have backups of some items but it will be out of our way on a daily basis.

Now that I have mostly drawers in my lower cabinets my kitchen is WAY more organized than it used to be. That is the #1 best thing we did when planning our kitchen. Not even a second of regret.
