wrapping 'paper' made from limestone? 'eco-friendly, using no bleach, trees, or water...'
but what the heck is the process they have to go thru to make wrapping material from limestone? Either way, on her website it's $8 - $11 for one roll. That's waaaay too expensive for me to spend on something the recipient is probably going to throw away or [try to] recycle. And the designs aren't all that, either; black/white stripe, polka dots, diagonal stripe, 'hand drawn dots' etc. --> boring! (and the whole thing is kinda pretentious sounding, in my opinion.)

She is not the originator of this Stone Wrap paper. I agree I would NOT pay that kind of money for wrapping paper. I have found some of the Stone Wrap paper at Tuesday Morning for $3.99 a roll. I grabbed a navy/white stripe and a pretty pink pattern. I used the pink for drawer lining in the bathroom drawers with clear $Tree organizers. Turned out very pretty. I also picked up about 3 rolls with Christmas designs. I used the 3 rolls that I bought and that was some of the best wrapping paper ever!

This paper was great for those Christmas presents that always poke through the thinner paper but I only bought it at TM.

How is that 'eco friendly'? Limestone is NOT a renewable resource and has to be mined and processed. And it's being used to create a disposable product vs a gift bag that can be reused.

How is that 'eco friendly'? Limestone is NOT a renewable resource and has to be mined and processed. And it's being used to create a disposable product vs a gift bag that can be reused. And it's mixed w/plastic: "The companies using stone paper claim it is a better alternative to the pulp-based standard, as it does not use trees, water, chlorine, acids, or petroleum in its creation. It is primarily made from calcium carbonate, one of the most common substances on the planet. Aside from making up part of marine organism shells, pearls, and eggshells, calcium carbonate is also a natural byproduct of water and limestone that is found in quarries. The substance is no stranger to the paper world – for the past 30 years it has been used as a filter and a coating pigment to produce whiter, brighter, glossier paper. But in making stone paper, the mineral graduates from just being a simple coating to being the heart of the product, comprising 80 percent of its composition. The calcium carbonate is ground into a fine powder and mixed together with a small amount of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Yes, HDPE, the synthetic plastic made from catalyzed natural gas byproducts, which raises the question of greenwashing on the part of the people behind the material."

I think the only way I'd want un-tearable wrapping paper were if I were looking to decorate with it. I'm talking wrapping picture frames (like fast food restaurants do...when not done in a hurry, it actually looks nice), cutting it up as a backdrop to make framed art (with or without text), etc. Otherwise, it's just plain mean. I can imagine it would feel to children like getting a box of donuts that's taped on all opening sides does to me. I mean sure, it's meant to keep the lid from opening unplanned, but considering I don't have nails and don't usually keep sharp things at the ready to cut several pieces of tape, it's just plain mean!

Cuter patterns this time around - but the red stripe and the black stripe are the same as what HL sells at Christmas.

Yesterday we celebrated my niece's 7th birthday. I had wrapped her gift with stone wrap I got at Tuesday Morning. She couldn't rip it like kids normally would. She had to get the tape up and open it that way. It was sort of a downer.
This wasn't the BH brand, so perhaps her paper is more tearable.
I wonder if there will ever be more Home products-with a name like Home, I'd expect more.

I was a little bit scared to come back in here... Whew! Ok, just more expensive paper. Got it.

Sure the patterns are better, not wrap them around myself and dance better, but better- but still too rich for my blood.

The point of stone wrap is that it is NOT tearable. It is best for people who carefully peel off the tape so they can reuse the paper. Or home decor projects.

Does anyone who's bought a roll of this paper know whether there was something written about how to recycle this "paper"? I'm curious. This is an excerpt of an article found online:
Based on that alone, I'd never buy any stonewrap "paper." There's enough stuff in my home that's plastic at its core. No need to add to the Pacific trash vortext unnecessarily. This is the kind of stuff that will suffocate the ocean even more. For what? Wrapping some gifts and books? Shame.

So I've had a crappy day and came home and was scrolling through Facebook and saw a pic of new notebooks. I've been putting together a little gift for someone and one of the new designs would be perfect. I was in the mood for a little retail therapy and thought it would be a total splurge, but it would be the finishing touches on the gift. The notebook is $7.99 (which is high but I can justify anything if I want ) Shipping was $9.00!!! No options for other methods...flat rate shipping on all orders under $35.00 is $9.00. Free shipping on all orders over $35.00. Basically, everyone under $35 is making up for orders over $35. $9.00 for a $7.99 notebook!!!!!! Needless to say, a notebook isn't on the way and I'll have to find something else to complete the gift.

Regular wrapping paper for me.
