Just got back from a great family trip to the lake. We got home yesterday and noticed that more then half of the cushions on our wicker patio furniture are gone.
Wth? Firstly, our back yard is locked. Secondly, someone took half of the cushions.
What a pain. We bought this furniture at Costco in June, so it's hardly used. It will probably take the company 6 weeks to ship us new cushions and by then summer is over here. At least they'll be packaged already to sit in the garage all summer!
It's wicker furniture - so they are the cushions you sit on, not all throw pillows. This person took the sitting cushions, the back support cushions and some throw cushions. The sofa has one throw pillow but all of the rest of the pillows. Everything else is bare. .
Paige.

You don't live in Surrey do you LOL?
Stuff like that happens here unfortunately. We didn't even put out our furniture this year. We don't sit outdoors very often and the deck needs to be rebuilt due to water damage and lattice work put up (we had a huge grape vine stretch around the deck and had to take it out).

That's so strange they didn't take them all-maybe they were planning to come back for the rest of them.

Is there a chance that a storm came through and blew them away? I know it would have to be very strong winds, but it does happen. Sorry that they are missing. Maybe it won't take as long as you think it will, to get new cushions.

What a pain. But are you sure someone took them? Our last really bad wind storm a couple of weeks ago deposited several large items in our backyard. Including a fairly large child's wading pool. The owners of said pool claimed it had water in it when the storm hit and it came from two blocks away.

No storm, no clouds, no rain or even wind in our city for weeks now.
Unless a very large bird somewhere has them in it's nest, I think someone walked off with them.

That is a pain. Perhaps it was due to a storm or something like that. I can't imagine someone just taking HALF of the cushions, unless - no, I just can't imagine it. My parents have a storage box they keep on their deck where they store their furniture cushions when they don't use it. The box can be locked (they don't but only because their deck is up high with no way to access it except from inside the house), but they've had stuff blow off the deck before. My dad's also freaky about having them get rained on, etc. But the box can also be used as a table, so it comes in handy. Hope you either find them or the replacements come quickly!

Why only some of the cushions? Why not all of the cushions? Stuff like that drives me crazy. Sorry this happened to you. I hate thieves!

That really sucks that people do stuff like that.
We've never had that happen with any of our patio furniture on our back deck. We plan on pulling out all our shrubs in our front yard in front of the house and putting a deck in. I told dh I wanted to get a wicker set to put out there and he said "why, so people can steal it?". I'm thinking "who would do that?". Now I guess I know people will do that.

I was kidding about the Surrey comment. It could happen in Saanich just as easily as North Van or Courtney. Thieves suck. Isn't South Surrey like White Rock? I don't know what geography of the LM looks like.

People think Surrey is just one big place with all the same neighbourhoods and really it is so big with so many different areas.
Yes South Surrey is like White Rock.

I have a university mate in White Rock. How long does it take to drive downtown? Do you have good shopping there or do you go to Metrotown?

It sounds like they only have a few pieces of furniture and were just shopping from yours to get what they needed for theirs. Either that or they were planning on coming back for the rest of it.
My first reaction would be to go upstairs and look in the adjacent back yards, as sad as that sounds. Someone had to know the stuff was back there. Perhaps they can see into your yard from a bordering house? Is your backyard able to be viewed from any streets? I'm wondering how they knew it was back there. Are there any teens in your neighborhood that could be pranking you?
My sister cannot put her patio cushions out on her deck unless they are actually sitting on them. Her deck backs to the open beach. Anyone on the beach can come up to her deck and help themselves. She lost two sets of cushions when she first moved in to the house. Then neighbors told her the homeless come and take them for their beds. This is in Ventura where you have a group of homeless living in the overgrown riverbed under the bridge and about two miles down are multimillion dollar homes on the beach front. She has had some homeless men come up on her deck asking for food when she is BBQing on the deck.
I don't know where you live, OP, but is there any homeless anywhere near you that could have been furnishing their beds?

Shopping is pretty good, lots of new stuff has gone in, in Morgan Heights and Grandview Corner. I mostly go to Guildford for shopping, or across the line as it is 10 minutes from the border.
Which lake did you go to paigepea?

We don't have large numbers of homeless people in our neighborhood, but I think that unfortunately our city has homeless people everywhere. We are in Vancouver, BC. Our backyard is tiny. The gate was locked and we have a tall privacy gate, so you can't open the gate from the lane unless someone unlocks it for you. I just can't figure it out.

Which lake did you go to paigepea? We were in Osoyoos on lake Osoyoos and then just outside of Kelowna on Lake Kalamalka. It was fun. Hot. Close to 40 C every day.

OH man that sucks! I bet you are right in that they meant to come back for the rest of it! They probably carried off what they could and then were waiting till it was safe to come again. Have you asked your neighbors if anyone saw anything? Those things are pretty big to haul off un noticed. Unless they came during the night..and ohhh, that's upsetting!
I'd feel creeped out and upset more at the violation of it all rather than the cushions themselves. I'm glad at least you could replace them! Such a bummer, Paige. Sorry!

Do you have squirrels? I have seen squirrels steal these cushions then they rip out the cotton for nests. With the way you describe it almost sounds like an animal, but I would think there would be more mess to it.

Both beautiful spots!
We used to take our boy's to Osoyoos every summer when they were young, stayed right on the lake at the Safari Beach resort.

The very idea that some stranger was in my locked back yard freaks me out. I'd feel very violated and more upset with that than the loss of the cushions. I'd be waiting for them to come back. To get over the fence to take them sounds like it had to be teens agile enough to scale the fence. Probably at least two working together, one scaling and tossing the cushions to the accomplice on the other side. Paige, was the amount of pieces taken something that one person could carry in a single trip or do you think it would have had to have been two to carry them away? Although, I guess if you were intending on stealing them, you could easily bring something to carry them off in. If you don't already have a motion sensor light back there, I'd be installing one this weekend.

Two chair cushions plus the back support pillows, plus the ottoman cushion and one throw pillow from the sofa. No, I don't think one person could take all of that. We could ask around, but is it worth it? We need replacement anyway. We won't recover them. Next time we lock everything up in the garage.

The worth of the cushions, or my piece of mind? I'd definitely be talking to the neighbors, not only to see if they saw anyone, but to let them be aware. What I'd want to know us stuff like were they swimming in your pool while you were gone? Oh, I'd be asking neighbors all kinds of questions. I'd also think it prudent to warn them as well. I wouldn't just let this go. It's not the monetary value of some cushions, again, it's the violation of it all. They could come back, I'd want a description of them if one is available. Just in case.

I would definitely talk to the neighbors too. Maybe something of theirs was stolen also, and they may have contacted the police.

The very worst part is just knowing that someone breeched your privacy. And if they did it once then they can do it again. Not at all a comfortable feeling.
