Not sure we'll ever find out what exactly happened but there was a HUGE difference between last year and this year. Just in social content alone it was very noticeable there was something going on.

Great question. Even if they weren't making a mint selling product, they definitely sold ad space and with so many members I would have thought it would bring in a fair amount of revenue.

I should have gone to scrapbookupdate.com first. Nancy has written an article about the demise of 2Peas. Pretty much sums up what happened....sad.

Thanks, Emily, for the link. Interesting! Part of me still wonders why shut down the forums with all the advertising dollars they had to have been bringing in.

Well, do they get advertising dollars just for putting those ads in? Or do people actually have to click through? Because as a general rule, I REFUSE to click on banner ads pretty much everywhere. I wonder if they marketed to advertisers with "oooh, look at how many members we have" and then none of us ever clicked on the ads...

I was so shocked when all this happened today! I loved checking in on the message boards everyday with my morning coffee! Anyway, I thankfully was still able to download all the pdf files in the 12 weeks to better photography I was working on! Glad to have found this group and thankful to those who have set it up!

Hey there,
I just wanted to chime in on this as a long-time member at 2Peas and online business owner.
As someone who runs an online site (PaperCrafter's Corner) I might be able to shed a little light on the "reality" of running an online site.
The costs can be high, higher than most people realize.
Between the everyday business costs (operational, financial mgmt., HR/staffing, marketing/advertising, etc.), required online services, and hosting costs, it takes a lot of revenue to just make ends meet.
Add to that the hosting costs for the site and we're talking no small chunk of change!
It may appear that the retailers of papercrafting supplies are making a fortune, but even with the product mark-ups, the margins after all expenses are in are likely much lower than most would think.
The forum on Two Peas has always been huge, but if the sales aren't there, it's not sustainable.
Only Kristina and Jeffrey know the real story behind why they closed their doors today.
I wish them well and am super thankful for Two Peas being around as long as it was.

I'm sad to see the site shut down as well. It was a wealth of information and a large community.

Is there any additional revenue if someone actually clicks thru and makes a purchase?

I am sad to see this go first got on 1995 and always enjoyed the community the ups and downs and power we had there at one time haha a morning coffee for me will truly miss the garden girls and all there ideas and generocity. Haven't bought from 2 peas in a while couldn't justify the shipping and was frozen just trying to use up my stash. Best to the Whites it's been a great run.

Yes, it was apparent that there were issues, but that's happened in the past as well and they've "turned the ship" in the past. I think many of us were hoping they'd do so again. Sad that it didn't work out that way.

A few Peas saw the writing on the wall about 3-4 months ago. There were many threads the last few months speculating if 2Peas was going under. I think it became apparent during National Scrapbook Day when 2Peas was almost non existent for the event. I think that's when a lot of people noticed something just didn't seem right. Many people commented on the lack of new products after CHA 2014. Personally I could see the lack of involvement on the MB's which made me wonder if something more serious was going on.

I don't think they bring in enough advertising revenue to offset the costs of the forums. It's not cheap.

Today (day 2 after the demise of the boards) I may be showing a little too much bitterness, so filter that out if applicable: If TPTB at 2Peas had listened to and applied even 5% of the good ideas which the Peas gave them via the boards, they may not have had to close. I mean hairflip.

I mean hairflip. And I feel this was a lot of the problem at the site. They didn't listen to anyone. They changed to that bright white screen and so many complained how it was hard on their eyes, gave them headaches, etc and they didn't do one single thing. All it would have taken was notched down the brightness just a bit. It didn't bother me and I continued to pop in every now and then. But it just seemed to take a downward spiral from there. CS, with fulfilling orders, seemed to have taken a downturn in the last year or so. Some things not fulfilled, returns were a hassle, shipping was crazy high. So, a huge part of my life and what kept me sane at times is gone. But there are other places to hang your hat. Hope we can all make the best of this ending!!
