That's expensive. At our local city zoo, I think the Halloween zoo walk / trick or treat event is $6 per person if you buy advance tickets, $7 if you buy at the gate. Kids under 2 that don't trick or treat are free. There is no charge to park, and normally no charge to visit the zoo itself.

What's admission to the zoo usually cost? free. parking is free with a family membership of about $120. I was thinking, oh how fun, I'll grab tickets so we can go do that. But when I added it up and it would be $90 at the reduced members deal, I was thinking, whoa, that is some really expensive candy. Seems really high for a family event. But I'll admit, I am very cost conscious. Hmm... yeah, if admission is usually free otherwise, $20 per person does seem high, especially if three of you are NOT collecting candy.

I just looked up the pricing for the Cheyeene Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. It's currently $160 for a membership and $12.75 per person for Boo at the Zoo. We were members about 10 years ago and used it quite a bit. I think membership was closer to $120, IIRC. And I'd guess B at the Z was probably about $10 each. Plus the crackers for the giraffes and any meals. My kids were really little then and I know we went every year. It was a great place to visit for a few hours and the kids loved being out late. Well, what they thought was late, because daylight savings time ended earlier back then.
It's expensive, but not as much as some events. Really, everything is expensive now.

Boo at the Zoo (the National Zoo event) is that expensive. I guess for me - it's a special event, of course you pay more for it. It's a FONZ event so I assume they probably make money for zoo programs that way.
I'm not offended by the price tag for me personally.

Hell yea that's high. Our zoo does Hallozooween every year. I think it's from 530-9pm. Different local company's volunteer for different sections of the zoo and come in group themed costumes and pass out the candy in that area. They get really into it. The Zoo also does their own decorations through the park. It's just regular admission price which is $8. Parking is $2. They only do it one weekend right before Halloween. It's fun, but usually a pretty big line to get in. I've taken melt nieces a couple of times.

We did Boo at the Zoo for years. My pass is almost expired and I need to renew. I will say that we have one of the few zoos in the US that is completely dependent on memberships and donations. They get zero dollars from the city, so the cost is pretty expensive. However, this zoo and all of its exhibits are pretty darn fantastic. Too bad they close of part of the zoo during Boo. We just went last week and the momma peacock was taking her babies out for a walk. So darn cute.

Thanks. That's what I needed to hear. I know I'm old and all that, but there is no way I could have afforded something like that when my dd was younger. I think I was expecting more like $10 each or something, and still being able to use our free parking benefit. There is an adult weekend nights special event the following weekend, and it is the same price, but more of a beer and restaurant samples sort of thing and bands, so while I am not getting those tickets either, that seemed more reasonable to me. I think for $90, I can find plenty of other things dgd would have just as much fun at. But a little bummed, so I needed the validation. Check with the local grocery stores, especially any upscale ones in your area! Around here there are three different grocery stores/chains that have a treat walk around Halloween where the kids can go around and collect treats throughout the store in costumes. The advantage is that a lot of the stuff they get are healthier things like fruit, yogurt tubes, juice boxes, etc. Tons of fun for the kids and it's all FREE!

I had no idea some zoos were free, the one in Portland and Seattke aren't, and neither is San Diego. Our zoo is close to that cost for a full day, so I would say it is expensive since it is for such a short time frame. The parking is shockingly high though, but I guess if the zoo is free that must be why. I wouldn't pay it, I would rather spend the money for a fun day at the pumpkin patch and just do neighborhood trick or treating,

I don't remember exactly what the membership was, but I justify it with the free parking and being able to take dgd for short periods of time more frequently. Memberships don't bother me because we are heavy users. Yes, always took my dd to a trick or treat night thing at our local zoo then, and a Christmas lights night too. I know I paid something extra for those nights, but I'd be surprised if it was more than $10 each. Times change and all that, just hate to be the stereotypical grandma on a miserly budget. Are you up for organizing some fun games at home? Face painting, bean bag toss, guess the weight of a pumpkin, will it sink or float... All fun and mostly free. I think that could be a great tradition that would make you the fun grandma, not the miserly one.

Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle is $19.95 for adults and $12.25 for kids just for general admission and that does not include the parking fee.

So, the $120 she paid to become a member covers the cost of regular admission for the year. The National Zoo in DC is free, except for special events, because it is a Smithsonian, but parking costs big time - but all parking costs in DC.

No zoo near me, but I have been to both of these very nice zoos multiple times, so I checked them out. Boo at the Zoo in Fort Worth, Texas is Oct 18,29,30 10AM-5PM, free with Zoo admission. Treat stations require a coupon. Guests and members receive 6 treat coupons per admission ticket/membership for no additional cost. Additional coupons may be purchased at the ticket booth $3/6 coupons. Parking is $5/vehicle Admission - Adults 13+ - $14 Children - 3-12 - $10 Toddlers 2 and under - free Seniors 65+ - $10 Zoo Boo in Houston is Fridays Oct 14,21,& 28 9AM-1PM Saturdays and Sundays Oct 15&16, 22&23, 29&30 9AM-4PM Halloween Day Oct 31 9AM-1PM There's no separate ticket for Zoo Boo. All activities are included with admission. A child All Day Pas is $19.95 (which includes DINOSAURS!) General admission - Zoo members - free Children 1 and under - free Children 2-13 - $13 Adults 12-64 - $17 Seniors 65+ - $10.50 there are various membership packages. A family package for 2 adults and 3 kids is $129 It seems to me the parking is free there, too. I haven't been there for many years, but can't find anything on their site about parking so I guess it's still free.

Seems kind of pricey to me. I'm not a big zoo fan in general, so I wouldn't spend that much for a zoo trick or treat.
I looked up the price for Zoo Boo for my local zoo. It's 6-9 p.m. The event description says the cost includes trick or treating throughout the zoo, Frankenstein's Foam Zone, a Freaky Deaky dance party, and Moonlight Magic with ___ (I'm guessing that's a magic show-no other info).
It also says that for an additional charge, you can roast marshmallows (no cost listed), take a spin on the haunted carousel ($2 per person), or take a train ride ($2 per person). The event description also says that while you may see some "night owls," most of the residents will be off exhibit/sleeping. Looks like parking is free, since there's no info. on parking costs anywhere on the zoo site.
$9 for members $11 for nonmembers free for children 2 and under
Those admission prices are for advance tickets. They say if there are still tickets left each night of the event, they'll be $13 at the gate.
So zoo boo advance tickets for four would be $44 (assuming no extras) at my zoo. That actually doesn't seem so bad, especially after looking at the regular daytime admission prices:
Adults (ages 13 and up) — $15.95 Children (ages 2–12) — $13.50 Children (younger than 2) — FREE Military (with military ID) — $14.95 Senior Citizens (ages 62 and up) — $14.95
no outside food, drinks, or coolers allowed at any time

That's high. At least compared to our zoo boo we have every year. I think it's $6/person with kids under 2 being free. No charge for parking.
The only time we paid $90 to visit the zoo during a special event was during a beer festival held there and a portion of it was going towards animal conservation.
I could see it being that much at larger zoos.

I just checked the Denevr Boo at the Zoo cost and the regular daytime BATZ is free with admission, either by ticket or membership. If you want to attend a special after dark BATZ event then it is $17/adult and $12/child. These are these are the regular prices for daytime and the only difference is that members must buy a ticket for the special event. Parking is always free.
I do agree that this is pricey and yours is even more. At least the monies go to support the zoo plus they have to put out additional dollars to pay the staff that is working extra but would I be willing to put out the extra dollars for this few hours? Probably not. I am also very cost concious and feel I could probbaly find something just as good to spend my $$$ on .

I admit living in the DC area has spoiled me because the museums/zoos are free so I think that is pretty expensive.

This is the one that has the Zoo Boo and other fundraiser events. The other one out in the suburbs is $12 for kids under 12 and seniors, $18 for everyone else just for everyday admission. Neither zoo has paid parking. Since the one in the city is so good, we almost never feel the need to pay to go to the other one, plus it's a good 45 minute drive one way from where we live so that makes us less likely to go there.

I don't think they do that at the San Diego zoo, but sea world includes trick or treating in the price of admission, Legoland chargers something like $20 extra and Disneyland charges close to $70 for the night time party parking not included! That one gave me pause, I did attend it once when it was $32 and included parking

Our local free zoo does Boo at the Zoo. Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the gate. It's from 6:30 to 9:00 and runs 3 nights - children under 2 are free. Admission includes candy stops, several activities and games, rides (like train ride and a few others) in the attached park, and one pumpkin per admission to carve. There is also no parking fee.

I'm pretty sure ours is free for members, but I would gladly pay to reduce crowds. All of the public events are so insanely crowded here that they aren't fun at all for us. However, if I am paying that much, I expect a better event than the last version of our Boo at the Zoo I attended.

Sounds high but also very fun. I would do it one year and not feel the need to go back year after year. Switch it up a little.
