4 days. We spent the long weekend (Aug 1) tent camping at a provincial park. A week before that we tent camped around the finger lakes area of New York. We are going canoe camping ( where you have to carry everything and portage your canoe) for a week, in a week. We love camping. I find it totally relaxing. I never camped as a kid except with the girl guides but my kids have been camping since they were 9months and 3 months old. They are now 11 and 14 and they totally love it and usually start asking in about April when and where we are going.

First and last time was 1988 as a teen and it was a cross between a tent and a cabin in a campground.
Camping is just not our thing. We like our creature comforts too much and we're far too lazy to want to do all that work on a vacation.

I am not a camper. I want my amenities. The last time I camped, I was 19. We were in a tent. It poured rain the entire weekend. That was 35 years ago. Never again.

We camp a lot! We have a travel trailer and that's how I like it best (tried the tent thing, not for me!). We absolutely love to camp. It's much different when you have a microwave, fridge, stovetop, shower, etc. It's also a great way to meet new, fun people and just reconnect with your family. I'm a nature lover big time, so I'm sure that influences my desire to go.

Do you tent camp or have a trailer or RV?
My family were always tent campers. I have such fond memories of those good times. I has been many years since I have been camping but I so loved being outdoors. The smell of coffee first thing in the morning. Oh and the smell of bacon cooking! and those smores.
My son, who did 8 years in the army, says he did enough "camping" then. However his 5 year old son is bugging ole dad to take him camping. Guess who will probably win out?
If you camp now do you feel safe? I forgot to answer the bottom question - I feel safe because we take our German Shepherd Dog with us. And usually dh goes with us. We usually camp in RV or state parks. Our late August camping trip is with my extended family so we'll have 6 rigs w/ 8 different families in a local campground. I'm not sure if it's a state park or not. It's pretty primative so it doesn't have full hook ups and we have to carry out all of our trash and bring in all of our water.

We went Father's Day weekend. We have a trailer now, we did many years in a tent. Our one DD has a motorhome the other tent camps and loves it, although her kids enjoy going into Aunties motorhome to watch movies in the evening. We don't have a tv, so they aren't interested in coming into our trailer. At this time in our lives having a real bed and a place to get really clean is a must. Our kids grew up camping.

Roughly 30 years. And I'm good with holding it off another 30 years.

Ooops I didn't answer the bottom question either.
Do you feel safe
Yes, we usually see with racoons, and skunks but with our garbage and food properly put away they get bored and move on. We have seen foxes and coyotes a couple of times but they were pretty far away. When canoe camping we put our food and toiletries up a tree with a rope and carry bear spray we have never used it or even seen a bear. We have seen tons of moose and deer but they ignore us and us them.

We have seen racoons, skunks and deer when camping, but not bear We did see a bear while riding our horses when we were younger. But we weren't camping, just riding down the road a bit!

Real camping or in a travel trailer camping? I got suckered into travel trailer camping about 10 years ago. Now, we rent a cabin at that resort every year. I don't tent camp. Ever. There was some thread about this on 2Ps about 6 months ago. Didn't you want to buy a travel trailer, Mary Mary? I warned you! I was the one who poo pooed camping and there was a big pile on. I stand by my original words. NO. I still want to buy an RV for camping. I camped in a tent last month and didn't sleep at all the two nights I was there. I like everything about camping besides sleeping in a tent. I need a bed at night. My brother got his last travel trailer off Craigslist. It was practically brand new.

Never.
RV camping seems about right. Can take the critters along. Still have solid walls between you and the boogie men outside.

Two years ago, tenting. A couple of times we used a camper. We go to family focused campgrounds. The only time I worry is when I'm trying to keep the mosquitoes out of the tent when we head to the bathrooms during the night.

I don't consider cabins or trailers to be camping. I agree completely! I last went camping nine years ago. I will never go camping again. Scottish weather and tents are not a good combination.

We tent camp every year. Our main destinations are national and state parks in California. In spite of all the bear warnings I have never felt unsafe, because the kids and I have become bear box champions.
In every campground where we have stayed, there are always lots of friendly people around. This past New Year's we were in Death Valley. It was amazing how many stars we could see and the coyotes howled the night away. I think my favorite part is that at night my dog curls around my head like a turban...probably because I smell like a smoky sausage ; )

I think I was about 10. I'm not a camper. My idea of roughing it is not having a coffee maker in my hotel room.
DH and one of his buddies are tent campers. They usually go to a nearby state park and have always felt safe. Occasionally they take our son and the buddy's son, too.

Well, I was NOT a camper but we bought a vintage 27ft 1966 Avion (like an Airstream) two weeks ago, spruced her up and went on our first trip last weekend. We also added a/c, a must-have for me. We had a ball and I am looking forward to many more trips to come.

I actually teach camping and backpacking...so I still love tent camping. in fact, we often sleep just under tarps. I always feel safe. esp 1 mile from the trailhead.

Got back from a week-long trip about 2 weeks ago. We go in a travel trailer. We go on a week-long trip plus several weekend trips each summer. I'd do more if we didn't have other things going on.
I grew up tent camping & pop-up camping. DH & I started out tent camping and dh hated it so he stopped going. I continued with just dd (toddler). DH finally decided he was missing out on quality memories with us so we bought a pop-up. We upgraded to the trailer a few years ago.
I do feel safer (from animals and bad weather) in the trailer, but we camp in well-occupied campgrounds, so there's never been a feeling of "unsafe" in terms of harm that other people might cause.

Camping,no. Not for years. Glamping, yes, that's another story. Great fun. Went about 18 months ago, just a few miles away with friends, for a laugh. We had a great time.

It's been years. First We started with tents. Then my in-laws' RV. Then we had our own tent trailer. Finally we just hired a company to bring a 25' trailer to the site, set it up and leave. We would come, camp, leave. The company would pick up the trailer.

Averages to be 3 weekend a month in the summer. We camp with the motorcycles and DH pulls a camper with his motorcycle. The dog goes with too.
Se we mainly eat out, but bring breakfast food with and snacks.
Love camping!

19 years since tent camping. I felt safe then but now it would depend on where I was and how well I new the area. Either way, I have no desire to go back to a tent. My parents have a motor home thats nicer than our house, now that's my kind of camping!

We've gone twice this summer and plan to go again this month. We tent camp. I love it. We are really picky about where we go so safety has not been an issue.

In a tent, about 7 years ago. In an RV, about a year and a half ago. I used to tent camp all the time in my 20's, and I still have a really nice tent and all the equipment to go along with it. One day we'll go again. I enjoy it as long as the weather is nice. I've never felt unsafe camping.

We tent camp and the last time we went was Father's Day weekend. DH wants to buy a pop up but I am unconvinced it's worth the cost.

We purchased an RV for our 20th anniversary gift to each other earlier this summer and we've taken it out four times already! (DH and DS3 are actually on trip #5 right now - camping at a state park while at another baseball tournament this weekend, but the rest of us stayed home to do back to school shopping, anyway...) We have had so much fun! Our last trip was to the state baseball tournament - at an Army Corp of Engineers Park with about half the team - then afterwards we went to San Antonio and hit Sea World, then on to Port Aransas and the beach! Big "thanks" to TXMary for suggesting the Gulf Waters RV park there! Our spot at this park was dead in the middle of probably 100+ RVs, but when we were there it felt like we were in our very own tropical paradise...so many palm trees and beautiful patio and landscaping! We rented a golf cart and drove miles on the beach just exploring! The boys said our nighttime golf cart ride on the beach was their favorite park of the whole trip! On the way back, we stopped in Corpus Christi and parked right on the water at a park. DH and I went fishing while the boys went skateboarding...so much fun! On the last day of our trip I realized we were all still smiling, laughing and having fun together, not completely sick of each other and homesick like we have been on previous vacations. Not having to haul luggage in and out hotels and having some space to spread out while traveling (with some of the amenities of home - think Netflix, Xbox while going down the road!) really makes a huge difference to us! There's no way I could handle tent camping for more than a day, but RV camping is alright!
