I'm not so much concerned about Studio Calico - it looks as though she's going to charge for a membership to her blog? Did I mis-read her email? Please say it isn't so...

I don't think the collaboration with SC will be much of a big deal. It sounds like SC is pretty much taking over some of the tech duties for her and from what I understood she will sell her own product and a membership of some sort. I took the membership to mean kit club but maybe I was mistaken?

Oh - maybe it is a kit club. Can you tell I hate secrets! Okay - maybe it's not a secret but you know what I mean!

If I were a betting woman, I would be betting that Studio Calico does not have what it takes to Manage a partnership on two fronts. Some folks are going to be disappointed.
I wish Ali hadn't done this. She's way better than Studio Calico's reputation.

The new stuff today I found by doing an Ali Edwards search in Google, which pulled up a thread at SC.

Add me to the list of disappointed people. Ugghhh.. of all the companies out there, did it have to be SC? I just do not understand the following they have. They have horrible customer service.

From her e-mail (in case you haven't seen it.)
"Hey friends,
I’m excited to have the opportunity to tell you more about the evolution that is happening at aliedwards.com. As many of you are aware, stories are the heart of what I do. This new website, and the products that go along with it, are all geared towards educating, inspiring, and supporting you in telling your own stories. For many years I’ve worked with a variety of different companies to create products and host workshops. I’m beyond excited to announce that I’m bringing everything together into one place. So what will you find at the new aliedwards.com later this week? There will be a couple phases of this re-launch. When the site goes live later this week you’ll find the blog, projects & galleries, and a pre-order for a monthly subscription. Over the course of the next few weeks a shop filled with many of my go-to items and a classes pages will go up. To make this all happen I’ve partnered with Studio Calico to power the site. I’ve worked with them on different projects and products over the years and have long been a fan of their aesthetic and their commitment to helping people document their lives. They have been strong supporters of my personal mission to keep the focus on the stories through this whole process and I’m super excited to share what we’ve been working on behind the scenes. All this to say, thank you for being a part of this adventure. Thank you for being excited! Your interest and willingness to share your own stories inspires me every day to keep sharing mine."

Except SC really does have the worst customer service!

Yeah, I'd bet a stamp club or maybe some sort of digital products since Ali designs a lot of those? Or maybe she will be designing an Ali Edwards kit for SC? I only know SC by reputation, because I've steered clear based on what I've read. I'm generally an Ali fan, so I hope this works out in her favor. She also seems to be pretty business savvy, which makes me wonder if maybe it will be digital products so then there won't be the selling out SC craziness that frustrates so many people. I'm sure she was well aware of SC's issues before she decided to go ahead and partner with them.

This was the answer to a question about how the partnership would work on the SC blog (and would SC be including Ali's products in their kits etc) samanthas says… that's a great question. Basically we ARE working for Ali. It's her vision, her products, her classes, all in one place. We're just giving her the site and the infrastructure to do it. This way she can focus on what she does best, design, inspiration and just being a rockstar. She doesn't want to ship things out from her house, etc. So we're kind of the back end support. Does that make sense?....

I read that post earlier, but I must have read it too quickly since I completely missed the shipping part. I guess that means SC customer service might be involved?? Not a big deal for me since I subscribe, but for those with bad experiences it could be a deal breaker

Not a big deal for me since I subscribe, but for those with bad experiences it could be a deal breaker I guess that's right. They'd be responsible for shipping etc and dealing with any service issues. Ali will concentrate on the designing and creative side. She made this comment on Scrapbook Update in answer to a question about giving away control to a 3rd party: 'I’m still maintaining control and have a hand in every single decision and design. This is going to allow me to grow in ways that I just couldn’t (or didn’t want to) on my own'.
Guess it's a case of wait and see.

Well I just saw something on Kelly Purkey's blog that sounded a lot like what Ali is setting up - KP also talks about 'a fun announcement coming soon for a big partnership' and says she's been thinking about her business, shop, brand & products. I wonder if she's going to partner with Studio Calico too??

Ugh is my sentiment too. For me, this is another reminder to keep my hobby just that...my hobby. Whenever folks start out as bloggers with an unrelated full-time job, it's usually funny, interesting, stories you relate to every day, a release for the person, genuine and something not driven by what might appeal to the masses for profit and advertising. I don't love my well paying full time job and dream about owning a scrapbook store, designing paper and products or being a blogger/teacher. I always wondered if my hobby became my job to bring in the money to live, would I enjoy it as much? Clearly, the answer is NO. Somewhere you lose your edge along the way and people notice in subtle ways. I don't think you can hide it. I hope AE has success with her rebranding and partnership with SC.

I've toyed with the idea of doing something more with my scrapping & card making but even the thought of trying out for DTs makes me think it might end up just being a bit of a chore. I think no matter how much you enjoy something, if it becomes your job, it's bound to take on a new life.

It wouldn't surprise me. Partnering up with them seems to be the in thing to do. For me it means digging a little deeper for independent scrap/ stamp companies.

I'm surprised anyone would partner with SC if they're familiar with the negativity surrounding them.

I'm surprised anyone would partner with SC if they're familiar with the negativity surrounding them. I totally agree, but all of these big name people who are attaching themselves to SC don't care. In my opinio they must not care about my money because they won't be getting it. For me it started with Becky Higgins (who I love but once she let SC be the exclusive kit club for PL I was done with PL). I know my little 30 dollars is a drop in the bucket but it matters enough to me.
If KP really is joining them she should think twice, especially since when she started her own stamp company SC deleted all of the threads that mentioned where to buy her new stamps.

I really like her and her posts. And a partnership with SC is nothing new. She's been doing DD with them for years. It makes sense if they have a good working relationship. Yay for her for keeping on taking this to the next level.
And I don't mind at all seeing Kate's pages. I like her too!
Ali seems genuine.

I feel mixed about it, too. On one hand, she has been doing DD for SC for a long time. I've never ordered her DD kit because I always like to do my own, but I do always love to see what she and others who order the DD accomplish with it every year! I've never ordered SC kits, so I can't vouch for their CS, either, although I have ordered product from them and enjoy using their stuff. And, on the other hand, I am happy to see Ali doing well and getting all her products under one umbrella. *sigh* Perhaps her partnership will put a tremendous amount of pressure on SC to perform better as far as CS? Did anyone else fill out her survey a few months back? I did, and I remember answering that I would love to see kits from her. So maybe this is a good thing, all in all. I love hearing everyone's thoughts on it - the good and the bad.

I'm going to wait and see what the story kits are and how much they will cost. I have thought about a kit subscription for awhile, but was not sure who to go with. I really like Ali Edwards' style, so I might sub the Story kit. I really don't stamp enough to do a stamp only sub. Although, I have a couple of her stamps and they are the ones I use the most. Not loving the cancellation policy, so I doubt I would go for a whole year to start with.
