Ali Edwards just announced her blog is going down for a week, pending an overhaul and the fabulous plans for what is coming next.
Out of all the changes in the industry, she has been the main stay, she has always been there. I'm excited to see what she is going to do next, but also worried. And not having her blog up is like not having the sun rise tomorrow (yes, I sound really cheesy! LOL!)
Here's hoping it's all good. Here's hoping she comes back with incredible stuff (as always), and lots of new inspiration. But I have a little anxiety.....

Interesting! Wilna Furstenberg also mentioned on her blog she's 'working on something super cool and lovely and exciting' which will be revealed by the end of next week. Now I'm really curious!

There seems to be a lot of rebranding going on lately.

So many changes in such a short time... I'm very curious what Ali is going to do next!

Truth be told, Ali Edwards needs to change things up. Aside from her very popular trademarked December Daily, she really hasn't been doing anything noteworthy lately. Her collaboration with Technique Tuesday has ended. Her blog has been pretty stale lately. I think in order for her to stay in this business, she needs to make some changes.

Me! I'm a tad concerned that she's teaming up with Studio Calico and/or American Crafts!

I love Ali and anything she does but I did like her blog better before it was divided into "AE Blog" and "AE Projects." I literally read it every day and then when it was divided, it just wasn't as reader friendly. I don't like clicking the "read more" link. So petty to say that but I hope she puts it back together with long posts!

I agree---I used to read her blog all the time, but I really don't like how she has separated everything, so I stopped reading.

I hope she doesn't do a collaboration with Studio Calico, I think she can stand alone as a Brand. I've been a fan of Ali's for forever and would likely still follow her if she made her own line of toilet paper

Feedly is the new Google Reader. I used to read all of my blogs through GR, but they folded about a year or so ago. Essentially you sign up for an account and add your content (the addresses of the blogs you read). I have the Feedly app on my phone- I think it was free. That way, I open up Feedly everyday and scroll through all my blogs. You can sort them as well- I have: friends, family, Scrapbooking, teaching, misc. You can read the entire content and see all the photos- if you click on the title it'll take you to the site (if you want to comment/read comments etc). You can click the bookmark or star tab to save as a favorite, etc. Feedly saves SO much time, no more clicking through every site to see if a new post is up.

All these changes lately in the scrapbook world… Anxious to see what Ali does, I too quit reading her after she changed blog last time, crazy but it just seemed like too much trouble to switch between her pages. I will say with the two peas board closing which I really hated to see but I think this General scrapping forum seems to be much more active than it had been there in a long time.

Cathy Z just updated her blog, and she talked a lot about it being a significant experience in her life in how she approached her art and relationship to customers.
There are positives and negatives to her new blog in my opinion, but overall I like it. I don't read it more often than I did before (still check in about once per week). She was very upfront about increasing the revenue potential of the blog and taking on more advertising. If that's what it takes for her to stay in business and continue to share her work with us then I'm OK with it.
I think Ali hinted about something along the same lines - when you are your brand it's difficult to assess how to continue to grow in the industry. I think this is part of the next step for her.

I'm looking forward to seeing what she and Wilna have up their respective sleeves. This sounds terrible but I lost interest in Ali's blog when she started gushing over and presenting Katie's pages. Katie should have her own blog. I go to Ali's blog to see her work, not her personal assistant's work.
Change shakes things up a bit and usually, it's a good thing. I hope so!

I was somewhat interested in Ali the blogger / scrapbooker. I have no interest in Ali, the corporation / brand. I understand needing to earn a living, and wish her well, however she transitions. But the innate appeal she had for me is gone. I feel that way about a lot of blog for profit writers, so many lost their spark once it became their Job. And only posting sponsored posts and giveaways is boring. I dvr so I don't have to sit through tv commercials, why would I give my surf time to them?

I would have to agree about Ali's personal assistant becoming a part of her blog with posts and projects. I'm not crazy about that at all. I go to Ali's blog for Ali and pretty turned off when posts are made by Katie and her PL pages although they are cute. Yeah, she needs her own blog. But, from what I have read in the past couple of years, it seems as though Katie became some sort of "anchor" or "crutch" for Ali when she went through her divorce....and I can respect that...but I don't think she should mix her brand and business with a friend. JMO! I hope I don't sound mean! I love Ali and don't want her to partner with SC! Y'all probably heard me say that more than once already!

There seems to be a lot of rebranding going on lately. Yes, there has been. Is this a coincidence, or was there some big event that happened to get them all thinking about "rebranding"? And regarding changes in general, I think most people are resistant to change. lol. I know I dislike format changes when they first come out, but a few weeks later can't remember how it was before. I can't be the only one like that.

Maybe my experience is different since I view from Feedly. I don't see the separate projects/blog, it all comes to me as one.
As for Ali- her anchor (as I see it) has always been her ability as a storyteller. That's what I come for- Katie (and their relationship) is part of that story. I enjoy seeing all of her extended family and hearing about how each relationship evolves and how she's managed to document these, both the private and public and the joyful and the sad- whether it be her parents, her sister/brother, Simon/Anna, Aaron or Paolo (my favorite!) .
Out of all the scrap-bloggers I've never felt Ali selling me a line of shit. She does have giveaways but she doesn't do the post and wax on about each product. To me, she's the most authentic of the scrap bloggers and the one that I would probably trust in real life. If and when she does review an item I feel like she's very honest. The few classes that I've purchased, I've really enjoyed. Her teaching style is calming to me, I feel like for some of the celebrities it's more of a one woman show and less about the actual lesson, does that make sense??
She also has never had an ounce of drama/negativity and I so love that- she manages to weave her way with much class. I'm very curious to see where the branding is headed.

I do agree she needs to freshen things up a bit if she's going to stay afloat but I took her class this spring, "Hello, Story" through BPC (it was a rerun) and even though it was pretty pricey, I learned so much from that twelve-week class. It really helped me with telling stories, something I struggle with. I'm really curious to see what this "brand evolution" of hers is going to be. I know she's been working on it for awhile and I expect nothing but greatness from her...I hope I'm right!

I dvr so I don't have to sit through tv commercials, why would I give my surf time to them? Thank you for expressing it so perfectly! I got disenchanted with Ali E. and Cathy Z. a while ago, and haven't read their blogs in quite some time. I just skimmed some of Cathy Z's, and you hit the nail on the head. It just doesn't feel quite as 'genuine' somehow. And petty though it may be, I don't like having to click 'read more' either! But I don't think it is petty, really; if I don't want to 'click through' then the website is losing out on potential revenue whether it's from ads, or whatever.
