I've had horrible luck with real trees that last couple of years and so I've decided that this will be the year I get a fake tree. I've been looking online and in store at Target and Wal Mart and I'm not impressed. Hopefully the selection will improve as it gets closer to Christmas. But, were else can I look for a fake tree? I want something nicer that doesn't scream "I'm a cheap fake tree!". Ideally the tree will be 6 feet or under, have big gaps so I can hang my large ornaments and be less than $200.

Home Depot, Lowe's, Hobby Lobby. Target and Wal-Mart would be the last places I would buy a tree.

Hmm I don't have a local Hobby Lobby but I do have a Joann's. I wonder if they would have nice trees?

Amazon has quite a few - some with free shipping if you're a Prime member.

Our current tree I picked up at Home Depot. Lowes had nice ones that year, too, but didn't have a slim one in the height I was after. Home improvement and craft stores seem to get nicer quality tress than WalMart and Target. My last tree was from JCPenneys. It was huge and full and lasted a long time.

I had trees from QVC that lasted for years. I just got tired of them and one was not pre-lit, so we didn't take it with us when we moved.
Our current tree comes from a store that during the summer it carries patio furniture and during the fall and winter it's all Christmas trees and decorations. We plan on getting another tree from there this year for our basement.
Costco and Sams have a small selection, but they always seem nice and the prices are very good,

We got ours from QVC it is 7' tall and pre-lit with 1100 lights. It has both white and/or multi and can be blinking or not. We've had it for a lot of years.

I'm wondering too - we've been looking a couple of years now and haven't found the perfect tree. I think we'll give up this year and get a pre-lit one (we didn't want one).
Previous trees have actually held up really well despite being bargain priced.
I bought a 3.5 tree from JCP overstock back in 1992 for about $30 and it lasted until at least 2000 (and we really only got rid of it because we wanted a bigger tree).
It was replaced by a 6 ft tree from Dollar General that we got on after-Christmas clearance for $5 - it's still in fine shape - it's not super fancy but it's held up well - we want a taller tree (7.5 ft) as we've run out of ornament space - but we'll be keeping this one as a secondary tree

I have a Home Depot, Lowe's and Sam's. No Costco or BJs unfortunately. I did see some on Amazon with good prices but I'm just not sure if I want to order one online. I'm super picky and I think I'd feel better seeing the tree in person and feeling what it is made out of.
Speaking of pre-lit trees.... yay or nay? I like the idea of pre-lit a lot because I hate messing with lights but then some years I want colored lights and some years I want white so if I do pre-lit I lose flexibility.

I bought my 6' pencil tree at Walmart last year and they had a large selection of gorgeous, very natural looking full size trees.

We've always done a real tree. When I started chemo we had to switch to fake. We looked everywhere and finally bought one from QVC of all places.
It's a company called Bethlehem Lights. Apparently they do a lot of the professional lighted displays at stores and such. The tree looks and feels real. It has both white and multi-coloured lights.
Never thought I'd like a fake tree but I highly recommend this one.

The one I bought at Home Depot is pre-lit and it has both white lights and colored lights. You can have all of them on at once, or just white or just colored. When I was looking for the tree some people said "oh don't get pre-lit because when the lights stop working you'll be stuck." But I don't see it that way. I figure for as many years as they work it's that many years I don't have to string lights. Then when/if they do die I can decide if I want to string lights or just get a new tree.

We got a slim, pre-lit from Sams 3 yrs ago. We are really happy with it. This coming from a family that has gone to the tree farm for the last 20 yrs to cut our own. I just got tired of trying to find the weekend when we could all get together and cut it, the keeping it alive and the clean up after. This one we have now if perfect for the space we have and it looks great! Oh and it has nice spots for large ornaments. I have several that need space hang.

I've always had a fake tree. But I got one at target on 2003 that looks light years better than the one from my childhood and even that one looked good decorated. I bought it thinking it was temporary and would do for the year since it was $17.99 and cheaper than a real tree and I've never had to replace it, so I'll continue to use it until it falls apart.
It's 6 feet and not huge like the live tree my sister buys annually, but it works for us!

We got both of our artificial trees from K-mart and we love them. They were cheap and once decorated look real...to me at least.

A garden center. They are going to carry high quality beautiful and realistic looking trees vs many of the big box discount stores.

These days even cheap, fake looking trees look fine once the decorations are all on.

we got ours at Home Depot a number of years ago. It doesn't exactly look 'real' since it has different types of foliage mixed together, and fake berries on some of the branches (it looks lots better than how I'm describing it, lol) but it IS nice looking when it's decorated.
eta: just my preference, but I don't think I'd ever get a pre-lit tree... my parents have one like that, and part of the lights stopped working-- so then, what do you do? either get rid of it, or put your own lights on anyway. I'd rather just put the lights on myself than have problems with the lights already on the tree.

Then when/if the lights die you can string your own. Or you could just buy another tree. I bought a pre-lit one that has both colored lights and white lights and you can have both on or just one or the other. If I do have to string my own someday I know I won't mind as much as when I had to do it with a real tree. That's because first of all I won't get stabbed as much. And second, taking them off will be way easier because I won't have pounds of needles coming off every time I try to pull the strand. Omg I hated those real trees. lol

Ugh. This reminds me, like half of the light strands on my prelit tree burned out or shorted last year. I have to deal with that when I get it out this year. It was only 3 years old

My costco one was over $300 but I think it's a 7 footer?? Not sure what the 6 footer costs, but I highly recommend them. I got one a few years back and last year the lights stopped working. The company that made it had a huge influx of requests and couldn't guarantee a replacement part until after Christmas (it arrived early December but they could never give me an update all through November and said they were out stateside and were at the mercy of the plant overseas). In a panic and not wanting to be out that much money on a replacement tree, I called Costco and they said, 'of course we'll take it back, unless it's an electronic, there is no time limit on any exchange'. It was 2 years old...that is a LONG time to back a product. Took it back and ended up paying maybe $5 more (sales tax increase) for the new one. It uses a lot of the latest and greatest technology. I believe it has in pole electric so once you set it up, you don't have to go looking for light strands to connect from the various pieces, it all plugs together in the pole (the original one I got didn't, but I'm pretty sure the one we exchanged it for does...hubby does the assembling while I take pictures of the process) and I have the option for both white and multi lights, including a blink that goes between both options. My ONLY complaint is how pokey the tops of the trees are (the plastic is really good quality and hard to bend) so it isn't the easiest to get our tree topper on it, but it was worth the effort.

We bought our last one at Boscov's, we loved the tree, we didn't like the pre strung white lights on it so we stripped the lights off.
