...don't you wish every store parking lot had such nice cart corrals as this one? This is outside a Trader Joes I went to today. Nice canopy, protecting the precious carts from rain and the hot Arizona sun. Don't you think that if every parking lot had corrals like this, more people would be respectful of returning their carts? Don't these carts look so happy and content?

Don't these carts look so happy and content? No. They should be pushed into each other! THEN they would be happy and content like corralled carts should be. Actually, though, one of my grocery stores just added canopies at their corrals. I don't like them (because they're HUGE and now take up more than one parking space) but now you can't miss them, so at least you can't claim you didn't see 'em.

Also, kimpossible, you have a lovely TJ's. Mine has an underground parking "structure" that holds maybe two dozen cars and is barely wide enough for more than one car to drive through at once. I don't even know what it looks like from the street because the only two ways I know how to get there are by approaching the parking area. I wish it looked at nice as yours did, all nice and spacious.

It just happened to be the one I was closest to on my way home from Hobby Lobby. But yes, I was pleasantly pleased with the cart corrals.

I really like the ones with the covers. It definitely helps keep them cleaner.

Does this really help except at high noon? Rain and sun isn't constantly perpendicular. Most likely, they'd still be too hot to touch. The canopy would need to be angled on the sides to prevent sun and rain from seeping in or significantly wider. It's cute, but doesn't seem to be very practical to me.

I love Aldi's as their carts are always neatly put away, never in the parking lot banging into my car.

I wish it looked at nice as yours did, all nice and spacious. You don't happen to live in Northern Virginia do you? You've just described my TJs exactly. We do have another one in the area (Bailey's Crossroads, if you are local) but when they built the one with the underground parking I was so excited to have another one closer to me. The Bailey's one has a huge parking lot that's shared with a bunch of other stores but it's not exactly around he corner from me. So we all thought it was going to be so wonderful to have the new one close by. Well..no. That parking garage is impossible. Just what you described, plus the parking spaces are narrow and the ones across the aisle are close, so when you back out you have to go back and forth a few times to avoid hitting the car next to you as you turn. I hate driving our van in there and it's an old Odyssey so it isn't even very big compared to some vehicles. ugh. I've actually stopped going there and just go less frequently to the farther away one.

Our Kroger stores have covered cart corrals but people still leave them all over the parking lot. It's the the same for most of the stores by me...carts everywhere. The only store where carts are put back is the store where you need to use a quarter to unlock it from a string of carts.

The Publix I shop at put in the corrals for the buggies only about six or seven years ago. I hardly ever even see any stray buggies sitting in the parking lot-as a general rule, the bagger helps you out to the car, puts your groceries in the car and then hauls away the buggy with him/her. At the same time, they police the parking lot for strays, and collect what is in the corral and at any given point in time there are multiple Publix staff in the parking lot dealing with the grocery toting and buggy collection. The carry out service is part of their thing.

I thought they all corrals had covers. They do around here.

I like how the corral lines up with the door so the person who retrieves them can haul them straight in the front door without having to weave them through the parking lot.

Our TJ, and grocery stores (stater bros, albertsons, vons, etc) have the carts constantly brought in from the corrals in the parking lot and pushed up into 3-4 neat lines of carts by the entrance under the covered entrances.
Most stores have the box boy/girl take a rag and dry off the wet carts.
So they are always cool in the 110° Ca sun, and dry in the winter rain.
Thankfully the majority of people in my area put carts back, but we have them after every 5-6 cars, on both sides of the isle so it isn't like people have to walk a long ways.
In the winter rain I like to park as close to a corral as possible so I dont get drenched.

Since the edit feature is giving me issues...
Eta: for the carts to be full protected from rain, the sides need to be covered. Like the one another pea posted. Rain doesnt always come down straight.

I can see where that would be a good idea ... Especially if it rains!
When my kids were little and sat in the shopping cart, I would always load them in a cart from the parking lot. (This was before you had to wipe the whole cart down with those sanitizing wipes store now provide! LOLOL!!!)
I was always annoyed when the carts were wet from rain. So, this would be cool to have a dry cart to get from the parking lot.

It does make them more obvious, but we have 2 stores here with canopies, and I don't find that they have any more luck in getting people to put their carts away than other stores.

How do you get your euro back if you don't push them together??? In the US, nearly every store with carts offer them for free. There is no system like overseas where you deposit a coin or token in order to retrieve a cart. Save

it only protects it from the sun at noon-1. The rest of the day it's still beat down with sun.

Well, I think that we are much kinder to our shopping trolleys in the UK. We know they don't like rain, wind or snow, so these are the typical bays you will see in UK supermarket car parks. They are visible from every parking space. And because we have to put a £1 in to get one, we put them back - BUT who can explain to me how it is that, even though they are covered and it 12 hours ago, those damn things are STILL WET!!! The ONE best thing about Asda is that they have the rolls of 'blue roll' so you can wipe down the cart and your hands as you walk in - that is the best 'let's make the customer comfortable thing' ever! On the flip side, the ONE worst thing about Asda (here at least) is that it's impossible to get that bloody coin back out!

I don't think I have ever seen a cover cart corral in Colorado. Or I haven't noticed. And truthfully, don't think it would make any difference

Around here Aldi is the only place where you have to pay for a cart. You don't really pay for it as you get your quarter back when you return it.
