I use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. Works great with towels. We were at a pub for lunch recently and the waiter (after I hilariously [/sarcasm] asked him for a tip when I passed him the empty plates), told us to use white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment of the washing machine. I'd never heard this before. He said it is good for softening clothes and helps clean the washing machine. He also said to use it in the dishwasher to clean it. I saw recently that you can use vinegar and baking soda to clear a blocked drain. I haven't tried it yet but I noticed that our bathroom sink is gurgling a bit so I might try it tonight. I use it on puppy wee on the carpet, diluted with water.

I don't know if this was mentioned, but my son is a poison ivy magnet. When he gets it, he immediately (after washing the area) puts a paste of vinegar and baking soda on it and does this a couple of times a day. It seems to make it hurt/itch less and may even help it heal faster.

White vin and peroxide in a spray bottle , spray on mold. It vanishes and pretty much doesnt come back. The short answer is: - Don't! The longer answer is: never mix hydrogen peroxide and vinegar together in one container. The resulting chemical, peracetic acid, can harm you when mixed together this way if you accidentally create a strong concentration in this fashion. Good to know!

One place we lived had hard water stains on the outside of some of the windows b/c of the sprinklers that always got the windows wet with hard water. I knew that vinegar would help to get it off, but the windows were hard to reach with big bushes in front of them. I soaked some paper towels in vinegar and stuck them to the windows (the paper towels just stuck right on the windows since they were wet). After 30-60 minutes, I took the paper towels off and the hard water stains were gone- no scrubbing required!
When we get hard water stains on the shower head I do the same thing- vinegar-soaked paper towel wrapped around the shower head.

My house had a funk smell. 2 cats, 2 dogs, lots of chickens, rain/wet ground. It smelled funky in here. I put out a glass of white vinegar and when I came in today I noticed... nothing. No smell at all. Seriously how does that stuff work!? So many great uses for white vinegar and it's cheap. Other favorite uses? I will have to try this. I used vinegar in my laundry but never like this. Thanks for the great idea!!

I use it once a month or so to rinse my hair. It removes soap residue and leaves my hair shiny. I've heard that before. Be careful though if you have colored hair. It will strip the color!

I use vinegar for all sorts of things. I use it in the rinse cycle when I wash clothes. My DH has super sensitive skin and this makes sure all the detergent is out. Clothes come out soft and fresh smelling.
My favorite use is to boil a 50/50 mixture of water and vinegar to get rid of cooking smells. Only takes about 15 minutes and it also really opens up your sinuses, lol.

I also put a cup of it in the microwave and turn it on long enough so it gets hot enough to boil, then let it sit in there for 10 minutes or so until it cools down a bit. Then you can wipe out any splattered gunk that might be stuck to the inside top and sides and the whole thing smells clean.

I put it in my dishwasher where the rinse aid is supposed to.
I microwave a cup and use it to clean my microwave and stove top and counters.
I use it in my washer instead of fabric softener.
I clean my showers with it.
I love vinegar!!

I put some in a Ziploc baggie and submerge the shower head when it starts to get clogged from hard water minerals.

I use vinegar all the time for a lot of the same uses.
Here's something though .. A lot of times people don't care for the smell and mix it with other things. If you want it to be effective then make sure you do a quick google first. For example, don't mix with a castile soap (like Dr. Bronners) because of chemistry magic that negates the cleaning properties of both and leaves a film.
I use a lot of natural cleaning products, but always check first. We think because it is simple like vinegar we can mix with impunity but surprisingly you can't.

i'm going to use it on my cabinets today SOMEONE mentioned they felt sticky gina Something that may work better on greasy cabinets is ammonia. Use about a quarter ammonia to three quarters water. Ammonia is amazing at cutting through grease. It's one of those old school fixes that works better than stuff like 409.

I will have to try this with laundry. I have told my people over and over again NOT TO THROW WET WASHCLOTHS DOWN THE LAUNDRY SHOOT. But, alas, they do not listen and I have stinky towels. YUCK. I may not have to hurt anyone if this works.

Why does this never work for me? I've tried it several times but no dice. I've tried the version where you put plastic wrap over it and puncture tiny holes so they can get in but not out. Next I did the version where you just kept enough Dawn bubbles in it to trap them. I've tried white vinegar AND apple cider vinegar. Some pea help me out? LOL I have better luck with white wine than any kind of vinegar. I've had good luck adding a little dab of sugar to the dish soap and vinegar.

One good reason to use vinegar in the laundry is b/c liquid fabric softener can gunk up the wash machine and cause problems. Dryer sheets can leave a film on the sensors in the dryer, causing problems. (But hey, your appliance repair guy won't mind coming to fix your washer and dryer, for a price!)
Vinegar helps clean the washer, and especially if you have hard water, it will help keep down the issues that all those minerals in the water can cause.

I just bought another huge jug of vinegar from Costco. I couldn't live without it. I use it to freshen up the litter boxes as I am cleaning them. I scrub them out, then give them a good squirt down with vinegar and let them sit. I know they don't need rinsing at that point, but I do, and they are fresh and clean and ready to use again. I wash all the animal dishes by hand because I feed them upstairs. I wipe them all out with vinegar before using dish soap because the dog bowl has a slimy feeling on it that just doesn't feel clean with regular soaping. I squirt it with vinegar, scrub a little, rinse, then wash them normally and they are squeaky clean. I have been using Organic apple cider vinegar after I shampoo my hair with this new organic shampoo bar. I can't believe how soft it feels after the vinegar rinse! It is supposed to be really good for your scalp too. I had a problem with some animal peeing on the water fountain that is right by my front door. We don't know if it is someone's dog or cat, or one of the wild animals like a possum or raccoon that is doing it. I squirt the area down with vinegar and not only did it take the urine smell away, it stopped them from peeing there again I guess they don't like the smell of vinegar. I use it in my tea kettle and coffee maker to rid them of water stains and buildup of deposits. I soak the animal's water bowl and electric water fountain thing in vinegar to remove the water deposits. I'm sure this is TMI, but during a water shortage, we don't flush pee down in the toilets at night. I add either vinegar or bleach to the toilet so it isn't gross and then flush it in the morning. I guess you have to live in an area where they are really watching your water consumption to do something like that. We learned to do that years ago when they had that slogan, "If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down" advertising to reduce your flushing habits. Oh, I use vinegar and sand in the vintage bottles and jars I have unearthed from my sister's property. We found bottles that were really old and cleaned them up with the vinegar mix to be sparkling and clear again. That's all I can think of at the moment. [br Do not mix bleach and urine... urine degrades to ammonia. Ammonia and bleach create gases that are painful and dangerous to breathe

We have been dealing with tiny fruit flies in our kitchen. I put a small container of apple cider vinegar and dawn dishwashing liquid in my kitchen tonight after dinner and already have at least 4-5 dead flies in there. LOL I got one going now and it works great! small mason jar, half water, half apple cider vinegar, a couple squirts dishsoap. Lots of dead fruit flies!

I have a question, or several. My doggie has decided to pee around the legs of my couch. I've done everything to get him to stop doing that. He goes out to potty plenty and never pees anywhere else in the house. I've tried some sort of pet pee away stuff, with no luck. I'm wondering if vinegar will help? It's starting to stain the hardwood floors right around the couch legs, we aren't finding that he's done it fast enough I guess so it's soaking in a bit.
Do I use straight vinegar in a spay bottle or mix it with water? Will it damage my hardwood floor or the wooden couch legs? I'm relieved to hear that it will help get rid of the pee smell at least!
