I was impressed that he graciously said Hillary had ran a tough campaign, and that our country should be thankful for her service.
Classy.
His whole speech was very good.

Unforutnately, I can't take anything he says seriously. I think this country will be more divided than ever. He can talk all he wants about uniting people, but I think a lot of the damage has been done. Done by him.

So does that mean he doesn't plan to put her in jail first thing in January?

It smelled to high heaven. You don't go from flinging feces and toxic garbage one day to sharing niceties and compliments the next.
He's a fake, a phony, and a hatemonger. Nothing he says is true, unless it has a benefit for himself and himself only. That's the only person he cares about. He doesn't care about bringing the country together, he just cares about himself.
The only good thing about his speech was that he didn't screech and yell. But even that made his speech creepy. But at least it showed he can stop yelling for a few minutes.

It smelled to high heaven. You don't go from flinging feces and toxic garbage one day to sharing niceties and compliments the next. That is what every single politician does during an election. Look at all the shit spewed by Clinton and Obama during primaries versus how they talk about each other now. I did not vote for Trump. But I do have high hopes that his campaign persona and his presidential persona will be somewhat different. That is the case for most politicians - what it takes to get elected is different than what it takes to lead. My impression is Trump knows that and has the ability to (to some degree) pick his approach.

His speech was surprising. He was gracious sounding and all that.
Unfortunately, after my experience post results, his previous words have done real harm to many people. Both side of the aisle. And many who have no side of the aisle.
I hope he surprises many and does well. It would be for the best. But his words can't be unsaid and they've crushed many. Some close to me.

WTH did I just hear? Either the speech was BS or his whole campaign persona was BS.
I guess time will tell which one of them will show up the next 4 years.

I have thought from the beginning that his campaign persona was disingenuous (though why he chose to play it that way makes me seriously question his judgment). I hope this "new" Trump is an indication of the way he will lead. I know I'm probably overly optimistic, but it's the only thing getting me through this day...

(CNSNews.com) - Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton says women won't have full access to "reproductive health care" until "deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases" are changed.
He had his own campaign comment about bibles and guns...
they both supported shutting down the coal mines. Devastating many, many lives in the mining areas.
and they're both anti Israel.
Trump had a great speech!
and I think this should put an end to HC running for POTUS!

My response was his supporters had to be listening and thinking, "Who the f is this? This isn't who I voted for!"
It was clearly a scripted speech and he stuck to his prompter (for once) but you could still hear the normal Trump in his interjections. I'm betting on 48 hours before he says something rude/wrong/mean in an unscripted moment. .

I think the division was already there...it was just hidden and no, I didn't vote for him or her for that matter. That is why HRC was leading in all of the pre-election polls....a lot (not all) of the Trump supporters were embarrassed or hiding that they were planning on voting for him because it's admitting they are okay with the racist and bigotry that he spewed because they are just like him (behind closed doors).

I only heard snippets of the speech this morning. Meds and return nights don't mix. I did hear a snippet this morning that a "braggadocious" speech had been written for him and HE changed it. Now whether that is true or not, we will never know. All those for Clinton will not believe it just as if she had won and done the same speech the Trump supporters would not believe her.

I do think that this country is more divided than ever, but I think this started long before Trump came around. The Republicans and Democrats have been furthering this divide for many years. This is not new with Trump (and I am not a huge fan of his).

His speech was ok. Some of his language / word choice surprises me.
Like when he called this 'political stuff' hard. I yell at my 11 year old when she uses the word stuff in any description. He also used the word great a lot. I hope he has some other adjectives. I felt there was some ad libbing - like when he was thanking people - that didn't come across as very eloquent. As an outsider, he doesn't sound presidential.
I also found it surprising when he thanked Pence at the very end - oh yes, and thank you to Pence too. Like an after thought.
The beginning of the speech - when he talked about Hilary - was good. And he was good at sounding like he wanted the country to come together.

And while, yes there always has been some form of divide, Trump has made Racism, Sexism, Xenophobia something to be proud about for a lot of people.

I have little faith the Democrats will work with Trump from the start. Trump can't get his way and neither can the Democrats. It's about compromise; something both parties lack.

I thought it was a nice speech. He sounded Presidential.
I thought it was very nice that he thanked his secret service agents. That seemed to come from the heart.
I think Barron Trump sure is a cute kid. He looked so sleepy. I wonder if he had to go to school today?

a lot (not all) of the Trump supporters were embarrassed or hiding that they were planning on voting for him because it's admitting they are okay with the racist and bigotry that he spewed because they are just like him (behind closed doors). Id have to disagree with this assessment. Many of the people I know who voted for Trump (I was not one) didn't talk because they were tired of being attacked by Clinton supporters. They were tired of being called names etc. So they just stopped talking about their choice. I saw it here on the peas as well. Many of them are proud of their vote and were excited to cast it. It wasn't till this morning that I have actually seen them reenter the conversation and they are still taking a beating from Clinton supporters. I will say that many of the people I personally know who voted for Trump surprised me with their vote. I wouldn't have guessed it. I have been impressed with how they have handled it though.
