Has me baffled. I really can't think of any other way to put it. It's so sad.

It's only 9:15 on the east coast. What kind of hate can you be seeing?

I'm sorry. For the presidential election. And it's only 815 here. It's craziness on the feeds and facebook cuz trump was elected.

Completely agree! I cannot believe the hate at one another on my FB feed this morning. What baffles me the most, is if you talked to the average person during the election, they would say they thought as a Country we were better than this, and the hate should stop on both sides, yet here we are. It was an ugly campaign on both sides...as they most often are, sad that it has to continue to carry through.

Traffic is light. People on the subway were subdued. Its 9:20. What are you seeing? And I'm in the bluest of the blue states.
ETA: I didn't and refuse to check FB.

I recommend taking a break from social media, message boards, news sites and TV for a couple days. I see lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth and smugness and bickering there, but in real life -- the world continues to spin, the sky is still blue, people aren't out in the street in front of my house shouting about the end of the world, and none of my neighbors have had a moving van to Canada to arrive.
The media is eating this up for ratings and people love to vent on the internet. If it is making you sad or upset or shocking you, a break from it and spending time in your actual community will probably prove more peaceful.

As an independent voter in a blue state that does not have a ton of electoral votes, I knew my candidate was not going to win no matter what. I'm still disappointed in the results though and the comments on Facebook are just making me angry and it's only 6:23 in the morning here...

What really hurts me is that people have ended friendships over this election. It's for this reason that I now understand why my parents always told me that your vote is your own and no one needs to know your choice.
It's just so sad.

I've seen disgust, disbelief, and a lot of fear.
No hate on my feeds.

We voted net zero in my house, meaning my husband voted one ticket and I voted the other. ONE of us cried themselves to sleep. However, we wish to stay happily married, so we do what we can to maintain harmony. I peeked at FB early this morning and it was pretty tame, didn't see much hate. I don't see that we have any choice but to get on with it and find the common ground.

Yeah, I stopped by FB and unfriended a few people this morning. I actually agree with them politically, but they were so obnoxious that *poof* they're gone.

Are you referring to the reported hooded KKK members waving Trump flags on a bridge in NC this morning?

What really hurts me is that people have ended friendships over this election. It's for this reason that I now understand why my parents always told me that your vote is your own and no one needs to know your choice. It's just so sad. I am strongly considering ending a friendship over it. Not because we have fought or anything over politics (but I did call out on her THANK YOU JESUS shit on FB because of the Republican majority, like a fake idol had anything to do with it), we tend to not discuss those things as an attempt to respect each other, but so much of what she says now is rhetoric from her husband. The person I knew before she married him (I've NEVER liked him) was not this extreme and someone I could at least get along with. But after this election, with it feeling like a very personal affront on every American value that I hold VERY dear, I feel like continuing on being friends with someone who I fundamentally disagree with and who represents what I believe to be wrong with this nation to me, sends the message that it's okay to fight to take away a woman's right to choose or that it's okay to give while male offenders a slap on the wrist for sexual assault, that it's okay to mistreat people because of the color of their skin and nothing else, that it's okay to be a bully, a bigot, a racist, a sexist and I consider that to be unacceptable. For now, I have unfollowed her on FB and if she tries to extend an olive branch, I will delete emails unread and ignore texts for a while. I consider this election result to be everything that this nation stands AGAINST. In the past, I've been okay (I voted Kerry in 04) losing, but not this time. This time is personal and is something so much more in the worst way possible.

I have been out and about in my community today and haven't seen a single moment of ugliness. And I have been in some unusual to me places...nothing but the same as it ever was, general niceness, smiling at strangers and a couple of hand waves as you pass by people on tiny streets.
Maybe it will come later, maybe it won't.

As I was driving to work, there was a very elderly man on the corner waving an upside down flag. Heartbreaking. I think it's wrong, but he's doing what he feels is right & I'm worried about his safety.

Among the people i'm friends with on facebook i've been thrilled to see a few who have expressed and opinion, a friend completely disagree and the original person saying that they're glad they can disagree and love each other anyway type thing. I have a lot of respect for that.
I've not been out so the mood outside, no idea and to be honest no desire to know today. I've got plenty to do at home.

Totally opposite for me. My Facebook was exploding with all kinds of vile comments against both candidate leading up to the election. Today it is mostly just, we need to come together as a nation. America has spoken.

Why would it stop? The president elect encourages punching people if you don't agree with them. Exactly. The president-elect encourages and spews his own hate. This apparently is the new accepted normal. Any progress made has been completely destroyed with the election of this hateful bully.

President Obama and Secretary Clinton's speeches were wonderful - as well as Donald Trump's last night. I truly hope we can put this election behind us and remember that we're all Americans. Tipping my hat to President Obama for intramural scrimmage - it sure hasn't felt that way. I think it's been a crazy 12 hours - hopefully sentiment around the country will rebound as quickly as the markets (as an aside - crazy to see how hard the futures fell last night and then see how quickly it turned green today)

I think it's been a crazy 12 hours - hopefully sentiment around the country will rebound as quickly as the markets (as an aside - crazy to see how hard the futures fell last night and then see how quickly it turned green today) I agree. I think all three speeches were wonderful. I think all three stepped up and were gracious, and hopeful. The intramural scrimmage was a good description. I was also pleased to hear Pres. Obama talk about the transition process he experienced with Pres. Bush. That Bush was helpful, etc and did all he could to help Obama have a successful Presidency. I am happy to hear Obama plans to do the same for Trump. I think its important that people remember the Presidential Office is bigger than anyone person and that its our job to help the next person be successful. Overall, I am pleased with how our elected officials and candidates have handled this surprising outcome. I honestly do not think they could have done any better under the circumstances. I am proud of them.

I just looked at my FB. Someone posted "I hate all Republicans! Fuck them all and may they eat shit and die!"
This is from a well-educated person who was passionate about the election but never did I think they would post something like this.

cat2007 I had a similar experience. One friend (not real close friend, but still...) posted something along the lines of 'If you voted for Trump then unfriend me because I hate you and you're a vile racist. Never contact me again.' I figured she was so over the top that she needed to go. She probably thinks I voted for Trump now, but I can't have that crap going on in my life.

In my classes we talked about needing to respect each other. A little while later, an ardent Trump supporter (white) told a mixed race girl to "sit down like Trump wants her to"when she got up to throw something away.

I totally understand. I have looked at FB a couple of times and had to immediately get off of it. The hate is just oozing.. even people who are level headed. I have posted a few things about just letting it go. Done is done. Some people are happy and some are not. I mean there is nothing we can do at this point. If you want to make a difference, posting on FB isn't going to do it. I haven't even read the comments on this thread yet and hope it is civil. Most of the threads I won't open.

I think it's wrong, but he's doing what he feels is right & I'm worried about his safety. I saw one person so far doing this on FB. She posted an upside down flag. This is a lady who taught two of my children. I respected her views and I expected her to respect my views. Today I was disgusted by her actions. I don't want to unfriend her and hopefully she is posting in haste.
