Sigh. I adore this movie. Adore. I laugh so hard that I cry almost every time I watch it. Last year at this time, they had retro night at the local movie theater. I dragged the kids - 15 and 17 at the time - to see it. So much fun!!!! My favorite line is "those aren't pillows." I also love Owen and his wife. I don't know if she ever has a name. And I also love it when the cop stops them in their car that you have zero idea how it's even drivable! Lisa but the radio works. Hahaha!!

Another one who loves this movie!
So much so that I made sure I'd get to volunteer when our historic theater shows it at the end of this month!

I had the pleasure of introducing it to DS (now 16) last holiday season. He somehow or other had never seen it, so DD & I "made" him watch it - he loved it of course!

It's our annual Thanksgiving movie. My favorite line, as mentioned earlier, is "You're going the wrong way!" I say it at least a couple of times a month and no one ever knows what I'm talking about. I must need new friends.

We always watch PT and A every Thanksgiving (actually a few times) and also A Christmas Story.
We quote a lot of lines from the movie as well.

I may have to add this movie into the " can't watch cuz I scream with laughter and almost pass out" category.
Like the original Arthur with Dudley Moore!

I had to come back and find this thread. I am super happy to report that my local theater will be doing throw back Tuesday night this week with this movie. The kids will be coming with. Can't wait - this movie is a blast and especially so on the big screen. My Thanksgiving season is now complete!

gottapeanow--that is so FUN! Have your kiddos seen it before? I hope they LOVE it !!! I wonder if any other theaters are doing that? Silly thought I just had----it would be a BLAST to go with other mega fans like hubbs and I, with the whole crowd talking along with the movie like we do!! .... I realize many people would find this ANNOYING---LOL---I think it'd be FUN! casii----wow on them playing it at a historic theater in your city, too!!! Me thinks I need to google and see if they're showing it at a theater near us. I have a few friends that love / like this movie, too--it'd be fun to see it at a theater together---especiallllly the movie theaters that serve dinner and have EXTRA comfy chairs! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My brother---(who LOVES this movie as much as DH and I do !!!) just happened to travel to WITCHITA for work today, annnd, we've been texting and quoting. He said he's SO disappointed that he didn't get to see OWEN and his wife " she's skinny...but she's STRONG....first baby come out sidewaayyyyss....she didn't scream or NOTHIN !!! "
"I'm to take you to Witchita to catch a train.....lessen you're a hog or cattle--- PEOPLE train runs out of Stt---Stubbville"
I Can't WAIT to watch this with hubbs (for our millionth time!!) on Thursdayyyy!!!!!

@mymindseyepea---interesting what you said about the "Home Alone" house----I didn't know it was the same house, and since I'm OBSESSED with this movie, it's always fun to learn new things like that! Speaking of fun trivia and my complete obsession with this movie----in that scene where Neil calls his wife*** to tell her he's stuck in Chicago, she is in bed watching a movie. It took several re-windings (back when we had VHS!) for my brother and I to realize that the movie she's watching is "She's Getting Married" with Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern (Lady Crawley!) . Fun how they snuck in a clip from another one of John Hughse's movies (it's the scene where Kevin Bacon's smarmy friend (Alec Baldwin) is visiting, and he asks her "what would YOU do if you were in MY shoes?" to which she yells "I'd go BAREFOOT !!" **speaking of Neil Page's wife---We never liked that character, because when he finally makes it home for Thanksgiving, she is SOO overly dramatic and acts as though he DIED and came back to life !!!!!! LOL! ANOTHER part that we were OBSESSED with figuring out what they're saying is when they're on the bus, and Del tells Neil "Tickets from here to Chi Town (Chicago) are tighter than Tom Thumb's ass" This was BEFORE google, no closed captioning, so we couldn't just look it up easily....Nope, it was 1989 and we rewound andddd rewound MANY times to figure it out! We also had never heard “ Chi Town” is another word for Chicago. P.S.... As previously discussed, it was SO sad that John Candy died so young!!! We were also saddened to learn that John Hughes also died fairly young (I think). Such a talented director !!!

Sorry, but that clip is from "She's Having a Baby" which is one of my all-time favorite movies, period. I was pregnant with our second son when it came out, and I watched it several times a week. You know how at the end they have all the people suggesting baby names? Well, one of them says "Mark" and the next says "Ian" and... that's the name of our 2nd son. And at the end of all the names, the couple says "Well how about Christopher?" "I like Christopher" and they use that name. With our 3rd son, we couldn't agree on a name. Then we watched the movie, again, and after the end, I said to my dh "Well, how about Christopher?" and dh said "I like Christopher" and our 3rd son is Christopher. Okay, hijack over.

How do they know which way we're going? I love this movie so much! My daughters and niece came into the room when it was almost over and were making fun of me because I have seen it a million times but it just makes me laugh. I am definitely a forever John Candy fan. ETA: I just watched "She's Having A Baby" last night.

To those celebrating ***Happy Thanksgiving*** everyone ! Otherwise, hope you're having a nice Thursday Sooooo........first, I made it through a full afternoon of the football game my brother HAD to watch.... it's fine, I was having fun cooking, playing with da puppsh, and hanging out here and on facebook. Sports bore me to tears, and I have to convince myself to NOT let the TV noise (and my brother YELLING!) get on my nerves! LOL! We were ALL SET to start watching, but now hubbs just found his Alma Mater (Texas A & M) playing, so we'll delay Del and Neil until that game's over... Sooooo, while I TRY to be patient with what seems like the millionth football game on today, I'll just hang out here Looking forward to watching this movie again (for the millionth time! ) in an hour or two-ish !!!!! Anyone else?

The thing I noticed most about this movie was the house from Home Alone. They are not the same house, but are located about an mile and a half away from each other. Friends of mine live in Planes, Trains and Automobile's house, and there was a point in time when my dh were interested in buying it. The Home Alone house is in the next town north. I don't know the current occupants, but the family that lived there for many years had a bunch of kids and many of our friends who grew up here played there. SaveSave

dald222 ---I'm sorry about your Mom, and that it's too sad that it's too painful for your DD to watch now Maybe one day, she'll be able to watch it and have happy memories of her and her Grandma brina ----Whoa !!! Your friends live in that house !?!??! THEE house where sweet Del Griffith met the Page family !?!?! I am sooo in love / obsessed with this movie, I think that is SO. COOL ! (and how fun that your kiddos knew the family that lived in the "Home Alone" house, too)

(and how fun that your kiddos knew the family that lived in the "Home Alone" house, too) Actually it was my dh who knew the people in the Home Alone House. But they had like 8 kids, so everybody knew them. It was just on the market a couple of years ago, so everybody was sharing their memories of playing there as a kid, and then of the filming taking place. We live in the midst of Home Alone/John Hughes/Ferris Bueller territory. The 16 Candles house is about 10 minutes away, close to the apartment we lived in before we bought our house. Cameron's house from Ferris Bueller is in the same town as the Home Alone house. The Church and the pharmacy with the ice rink across the street in Home Alone are nearby, although I always laugh at that part of the movie, as you cannot run from one to the other as is shown in the movie. My kids' high school is in Uncle Buck. Breakfast Club is based upon our high school but was not shot there. Its kid of fun when people visit to take them on a tour. SaveSaveSaveSave

I cannot WAIT to watch this for our NINETEENTH Thanksgiving in a row!!!!! 😂 If you have NOT seen it, I higgggghly recommend it !!!
DH, our families & I quote this movie all. the. time !!!! We have watched it MANY other times besides Thanksgiving!!!
SO sad that John Candy died so young, (age 43) and was known to be a very kind, shy, sweet person !!!
😂 As others have said, it’s fun that his movie “Uncle Buck “ was sort of like a sequel, but we would have LOVED to see Del move in with Neil and his fam, and/or TRAVEL together again! Ohhhh, the Tom Foolery & Shenanigans that would have ensued !!!! 😂

The first time I saw this movie, I was in the theatre giggling my arse off. My boyfriend at the time looked at me and said "are you alright"? haha. I was giggling even after the funny scenes. I loved that movie.
