scrappintoee, agreed. That scene is absolutely hysterical. My second-favorite scene is Owen. It was again showing on the big screen last night at our local theater. The theater was packed. I bought our tickets (assigned seating) at the beginning of October almost as soon as they went on sale. One son could not rearrange plans, so he missed it. My other son worked late but rushed to the theater even though he was late. I have raised him well. He was quoting several parts. Lol. We will also see Christmas Vacation and Elf next month for throwback Tuesday on the big screen. Christmas Vacation is my favorite Christmas movie. Lisa

I love that you all love this movie so much and can share the common memories etc. I would have to be one of my all time most frustrating movies to watch LOL. Different strokes huh?

What a good son you have! Even though he was late, AND was probably tired after work---good boy to not only arrive late, AND quote it !!! I'd like to bestow you with the award of GREATEST MOM EVERRR !!!

I know the title, I know who stars in it but I don’t think I’ve actually ever watched it because beyond that I can’t recall anything about this movie. Weird. And I’ve watched many of the classic comedies like this. I’ll have to look for it and have my ds14 watch with me. He loves the old comedies like airplane, caddy shack etc.

One of my little family's favorite movies ever (along with the original "Arthur", "Airplane", "The Jerk"...) My kids saw the edited TV version. They could quote the entire movie when they were young.
The end scene was out of the blue and got to me every time!!!! My favorite scene was when John Candy was adjusting the car seat--i think of it every single time I adjust my car seat!!!! I think of him playing piano on the dashboard too. Perfect!!!!

scrapmaven .....You gave me that ONE line, and I just couldn't resist! "Didn't you notice, on the plane, I started reading the VOMIT BAG!!?? Ya know, everything is NOT an anecdote----you have to discriminate and CHOOSE things that are mildly amusing or interesting. Your stories are a MIRACLE....they're not even amusing ACCIDENTALLY!"..... Next time you tell a story HAVE A POINT! ".....it makes it SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING for the listener!!!" By the way, whenever I need to tell DH a lonnng story with lots of details, I TRY to keep it as brief as possible, because I KNOW at a certain point, he's no longer listening. Sooo, we use the "vomit bag" quote very often . That scene where Neil just tears Del APART is SO mean and brutal, we don't like it at all! I mean....SOME of it is funny (when Neil imitates pulling the string on the "Chatty Cathy Doll") but he rants WAYYY too long! The very hurt look on Del's face is so hard to watch! I've read that THAT scene earned John Candy a lot of kudos and respect for being a talented dramatic actor versus just being a silly goofball in his other movies. One of our other favorites is when they first meet, on the plane, and Del says " There's nothing worse than some CHOWDERHEAD who doesn't know when to keep his big mouth SHUT!" and Steven Martin is already annoyed and pulls on his collar to indicate suffocation. DH and I do that ALL. THE. TIME. (and moreso now, since my Dad moved in, when he goes on and on and onnnn about something very boring! LOL!) . ------------------------------------------------------------ @bergdorfblonde .....Everrrrrry road trip we go on, DH and I ALWAYS imitate the seat adjusting but everrrry time we watch that scene, we comment that there is NO CAR SEAT in the world that would move all those different ways.....hee hee! Annnd, the adorable way Del plays the dashboard "piano" AND uses his thumb as a saxaphone. A few years ago, I added Ray Charles' "Mess Around" to my ipod and surprised DH with it in the middle of our trip. Allllll the years before that, we imitated that scene sans the actual song, so it was very fun to surprise DH with it.

My husband and I love to quote "YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY!" whenever someone is going the wrong way down a parking lot or whatever. "Like they know where we're going" 🤣🤣🤣
