With the Amazon BF deal, I am expecting my personal shopping elf (DD does DH shopping) to order today. I called and asked if she had seen today's sale.

They looked scary but they were done! I shredded them with the kitchenaid mixer and bagged them. So...what do you do with shredded chicken? I made it for the dog but I don't think I'll need to use all of it for her.

I finally got around to doing hard boiled eggs. OMG I can't believe how easy they were! I am never going to make them any other way. I also did up another batch of yogurt. And, I talked my neighbor into getting an IP from the Amazon sale. He is the one that does their cooking since his wife had a stroke about 15 years ago. He and I often trade recipes. He has always run out and purchased anything that he notices is new in my kitchen - well, no, make that my house. He has purchased yard tools the same as mine too. He's a funny guy. I told him I was going to find something that was complete crap and put it out on my countertop so that he would see it and run and buy one too. I hadn't mentioned the IP to him yet. I saw him outside putting up his Christmas lights this afternoon, and since it is on sale, I went ahead and told him about the IP. They have the cutest little camping trailer that they take out once a month and I mentioned that the IP would be a great thing to take with them on some of their trips. When I told him he could use the one appliance to make a whole day's meals, from oatmeal for breakfast, soup for lunch, and some amazing pasta dinner followed by a cheesecake, all in that same machine, he was sold. He whipped out his phone to take a picture of mine to make sure he got the same one. By the time we were done talking, I would 't be surprised if he went home and ordered 2 of them. *****I just noticed the glass lids are on for $11.95 if anyone is interested in getting one.****

Why would I need a glass lid?

Why would I need a glass lid? If you were using it as a slow cooker or yogurt maker and wanted to see how it was cooking without lifting the lid.

elaine, I need help. I am a college grad, Director of Accounting in a nationwide law firm and I CANNOT SET THE TIMER CORRECTLY on the 6-in-one instapot. It has severely affected our relationship. Scenario - cook for 4 minutes on manual. It seems it takes FOREVER. I was successful the first couple of times, but now I cannot seem to manage it. I can still use a microwave, so I do not think I have lost cognitive ability.

I'm joining the dark side LOL! I bought the 7-in-1 instapot that Amazon had on special yesterday. I'd mentioned to DH & boys that I was thinking of the 6-in-1 the day before but it didn't have the yogurt ability. DS1 said he wanted to try making yogurt so I held off. Once I saw it on sale yesterday I knew I had to buy it! I'm hoping making yogurt is easy & DS1 likes homemade because that boy is eating me out of house and home!
Those of you that have made yogurt- any recipes or tips to share? Where should a newbie start?

Are you having problems setting the timer or problems getting the machine to come up to pressure? if the problem is with it coming up to pressure, check that your release valve is closed, but not back far enough that it is raised again to come off for cleaning, and also that your silicone ring is in place all the way around the lid.

So look what I did for my IP....gave him his own home, finally! The second one will have to live in the cupboard that will soon be empty as soon as I get rid of the crockpot that's gathering dust in there. I hope he doesn't mind being hidden away while his older brother gets to sit out!

I would have sworn on all my bibles (and there are a lot of them....a by-product of going to seminary, lol) that I replied to your post. Eaten by the black hole I guess.... Anyway, yes, I wasn't sure I even needed one pot never mind TWO! lol. I cannot wait for it to come. First off will be yogurt. I'm having such a hard time fitting the yogurt into my work and cooking schedule. lol. Now it won't matter!

Butternut squash in my pot at the moment, being cooked to make soup. I have the onion, carrots, and apple all cut up waiting to be sauteed after the squash is done. Then the recipe says to put the cooked squash back in with the other veggies, salt, pepper, ginger, and broth and cook for a few minutes. Then blend. I'm actually not following a recipe exactly, because the one I looked at that was the simplest didn't include carrots. But I have two left over and they're the same color as the squash, lol, so why not? -- Look at me... improvising while cooking!!!

Lol Wait until you buy a cheap pork shoulder, dump in your favorite seasoning (I use the McCormick slow cooker BBQ pulled pork seasoning packet + the ingredients it calls for) - set on high pressure for 55-75 minutes (depending on the size of the roast) and then get out your forks or bear claws and you'll have amazing pulled pork.

My husband made an Oreo and plain cheesecake for Thanksgiving and my family LOVED the Oreo! I plan on using the Instant Pot later this week for a freezer meal (BBQ chicken).

The insta pot I got on Black Friday for DH for Christmas (he loves to cook) came today and he saw it before I managed to hide it... So it is now all unboxed and sitting on the counter intimidating us.
I have a dozen thawed chicken legs and a jar of bbq sauce for dinner tomorrow. Can we do them in it and if so how? We have no idea how to use this thing.

So it is now all unboxed and sitting on the counter intimidating us. I have a dozen thawed chicken legs and a jar of bbq sauce for dinner tomorrow. Can we do them in it and if so how? We have no idea how to use this thing. Put a little bit of oil in the bottom, or spray with non-stick cooking spray. First, set it on saute "more". Brown the legs. If you need to, do it in batches. Put all the browned legs back in along with any juices that gathered on the plate. Then, pour the jar of BBQ sauce over them. Close the lid. Be sure the valve is in the correct/closed position. Hit "manual" - the default will be high pressure - and then use the + /- buttons to set the time to 10 minutes (the default the first time will be 30). When it it comes up to pressure, it will start counting down from 10. When it is done, it will beep. Use quick release - just move the valve to open/steam and steam will pour out. When the safety pin drops down - it will take a couple of minutes- you can open the lid. You can either eat them just like that, or, if you want them a little crispy, you can put them on a baking sheet and put them under broiler and carmelize the sauce a bit, but watch closely so they don't burn.

I made a lemon cheesecake tonight. I am so excited that it was so easy and looks delicious. And apparently they freeze well too. It is in the refrigerator cooling now, but I doubt that I will end up eating any tonight. I only got 2 hours of sleep last night. I hate nights like that where I just cannot fall asleep. I finally decided to just get up and get busy. At least I got a lot accomplished today, but I finally hit the wall and even cheesecake is not worth going back down the stairs tonight. Maybe I will have cheesecake for breakfast!
I went out to get the mail tonight and ran into another neighbor. We got to chatting when I remembered the cheesecake was in the IP and I needed to go check it. She came in with me and within 5 minutes, she decided she needed to buy one for one of her sons. She had me order it because she doesn't have Prime. As we got to talking about all her son will be able to do with it, she started thinking that she just might have to keep it. I'm half expecting her to come back and ask me to order another one.
I'm really surprised at how much I am enjoying this thing. It makes cooking fun again. I used to love making all kinds of dishes when my son was little. And when my ex fiancé lived here, I cooked all the time and we entertained a great deal. Now that it is just me, I haven't been interested in eating or cooking. Now with this IP in the house, I am finding excuses to cook things just to see how it will turn out. I am going to have a fully stocked freezer here soon.
Oh, and the neighbor that ordered one for himself yesterday came out when we were still chatting by the mail box and he said he ended up ordering another one for his daughter. It is interesting and amusing to me how something as simple as an electric pressure cooker can generate such excitement among my neighbors. I wonder how many will end up being delivered to this street as the neighbors that I introduced to it go back and tell the other neighbors up the street. We may end up having our summer 4th of July street party with a bunch of IPs all lined up on a table instead of the usual array of crock pots.

My family insists I am setting it wrong. I turn it on, get the beep when the lid is secure, set it for manual, and 4 pops up on the digital readout. Second time I manually set it for 4:00. That seemed to be for 4 hours, which WILL ruin mac & cheese (in case you had any doubts). First couple of times it worked perfect but I must be doing something wrong. I fear it's like watching netflix on the PS4 - I will need explicit, step by step directions. Such a stunad!

They looked scary but they were done! I shredded them with the kitchenaid mixer and bagged them. So...what do you do with shredded chicken? I made it for the dog but I don't think I'll need to use all of it for her. The first thing I thought of was Buffalo Chicken dip. I like to do mine in a cast iron in the oven, heat a bit then broil to get nice & bubbly. I just do cream cheese (soft), greek yogurt, add as much hot sauce as you prefer, & some Parmesan, all mixed with chicken (add spices as you like). Then top with a little blue cheese and mozzarella, can also add bread crumbs if you want. Definitely not a healthy snack! But you can use celery instead of chips/bread for dipping. I made the Peanut Butter cheesecake from pressurecookingtoday.com for Thanksgiving and it came out really good! I was a little nervous. I had to cook it the 5 minutes longer than the original 50 minutes, but it set nicely. It was definitely dense, but it looked like a cake you buy from the store. And the 7 inch is perfect bcz everyone just wants a little slice to try anyways. After making my turkey stock for Tday turkey, I made the turkey soup in IP in about 15 minutes. Came out good and was able to freeze half. I really want to try the lasagna in the pan. IP will probably get used tonight as I didn't plan ahead for dinner & we are sick of leftovers.

I'd like to pop in and thank the Pea who recommended the Serious Eats chile verde recipe for the IP. It was fantastic and SO easy. I've made a lot of bland, boring recipes from some of the "well known" pressure cooker bloggers. Finally one that had tons of flavor!

We are making lemon garlic chicken tonight, for our second IP meal ever. I'm assuming with frozen chicken breasts you skip the browning/saute step?
