DS wants a single serve coffee maker for hot chocolate and cider in his dorm room. We already bought some gifts for him so we need something really inexpensive. He definitely wants to be able to use k-cup type cups, but not necessarily the brand.
I have seen some with pretty good ratings on Amazon, but they are not brands I have heard of, so I am a little leary. Any suggestions for a simple, inexpensive coffee maker under $50?
TIA

I got ds the Keurig mini. I had reward points thru keurig, so I think I only paid 45-ish dollars for it. I don't think you are going to get anything decent for 50 bucks.

For the cider, I did price comparisons at Amazon, WM, and the local grocery (Kroger). Amazon had the best deal. Green Mountain Naturals Kcup cider, 96 count Don't mistakenly think 96 is too many! For cocoa, we did some taste tests (incl Starbucks Kcups) and the kids like the WM brand best, which is the cheapest, so, yay for us. (I don't like water cocoa and will take the extra steps to have milk cocoa.) The kids also like WM pumpkin spice KCups over the Starbucks pumpkin spice Kcups. I've heard that BB&B has good prices if you use the 20% coupon. (I joined the BB&B club and it's awesome, BTW.) ETA If you buy a Keurig, make sure you buy the right Kcups. There is a Keurig 2.0 version/line and not all Kcups fit it. (Supposedly. We're new to Keurig and have a 2.0. In reading on Amazon, apparently there are Kcups that won't work in it. We haven't had a problem, but we only use it for the three things I mentioned above. We're not coffee drinkers, which is why we're late to the Kgame. The kids only started drinking pumpkin spice coffee because we got a Keurig, not the other way round!)

For hot chocolate and cider I wouldn't even bother with KCups. Definitely a maker to heat the water. But just get regular hot cocoa and cider mix. Tastes better. If you can find it, Stephen's is a GREAT hot chocolate brand with lots of flavors. I think they have a cider, too, but I haven't tried it.

We bought a "fake" Keurig for our camper. IIRC, we got it at Kohls for $30-ish on sale. We don't drink hot chocolate, but I buy it for my office and after tasting several brands this is the one my office prefers. Grove Square Hot Cocoa from Amazon.
