Do you buy your own holiday gifts from your spouse?

Change the time frame to do on his own, and I could have written this word for word.

However, being a bit of a romantic, or more likely dim, it took me 20 years to figure out. But holy cats do I get some nice things these days. And they are just what I want!

So much easier. We are both happy and there's no money wasted.

I have. Not very year but I've done it more frequently lately. DH is a great gift giver-- that is not the issue. He just tends to spend more than I'd like. It's much less stressful for me (I do the budget) this way.

I have bought all my gifts from DH. He is clueless as a gift giver. After 30 years of marriage, I am quite used to it. I told him yesterday that he bought me some nice PJ's for Christmas and I was sure I would love them. He once got me a Mother's Day card that said "Happy Graduation". I asked him if he read what the card said and replied, "No, I just liked the picture on the front of the card." LOL!!

My Dad was an awesome gift giver. He was always surprising my Mom with gifts.

I have Ben known to when he has been at a complete loss as to what to get or, as with this year, I wanted something very specific. I have ordered a timber quilt rack to hang the quilts I have made on. I found what I wanted and it is on its way. 

We are both happy that I will get something I really want!

Nope, dh does not shop very well. We both buy what we want during the year and don't tie the items to holidays.

No, we each have Amazon wish lists to choose gifts from. My entire family started using Amazon wish lists about 5 years ago and it has made gift shopping so much easier. Except my brother uses his as a way to track gifts he wants to buy for other people, so he can be hard to shop for sometimes.

I have had two Christmas out of 12 with my DH that he did great. The first Christmas was an engagement ring so of course that ranks and a couple years ago he must have been making a list when I mentioned things because I got a couple gifts I really wanted. Otherwise, he is not good at it. I bought myself a purse this year, because I didn't trust him to get the right thing at the right price. His heart is in the right place so i have to give him some credit.

We pretty much do that too, and I am totally ok with it. I also had the realization that my dh is not a good gift giver, so it sort of evolved that way. As our kids grew it just became easier and less stressful all around. I try to buy him 1-2 small things that will be a surprise for him to open. But we keep it simple.

We don't really exchange gifts. We each do a stocking for the other person with little things, and then we save our money and go on a fat vacation.

In my mind, if I have to buy my own gifts, it's just not a gift. It's me buying what I want.

But, whatever works for people.

Dh doesn't want anything so he only buys practical gifts. I guess I'm lucky I don't have to shop for him, but it also means I don't buy myself gifts from him. Gifts from my kids are fair game though ;-)

My husband could be really.... creative... with his gift-giving. Some of them were even really good. 

But yeah. I totally did this. He only had to get me something and the pressure was off to get it perfect.

This was my mom and dad. He would give my sister and me the presents to wrap and we were amazed at how well he did every year. My mom finally clued us in. It worked for them and she got wonderful gifts. She always had many presents from us so she was able to be surprised on Christmas morning.

I don't. Dh's love language is gifts so he buys us a lot of Christmas gifts. They aren't always what we want or need, but he tries and has fun doing it. We do all use wish lists to help each other know what we are interested in or want.

Dh is not good at secrets, my birthday is the end of January, my new treadmill is being delivered next week   I wanted it for my dog, so no, he isn't telling me I need to lose weight
