Not pointing any fingers or to any particular situation but honestly, some people are going to explode before Christmas.
And before anyone feels the need to point it out, that's exactly what I'm doing myself.

On that note, are you planning anything holiday like with your DGD? Before or after or something?

I could stand to lose a few pounds! Actually I have stopped opening many posts on this board as others have suggested. I want to understand their unhappiness, angst, anger, grief, etc. but at some point, I can't allow it to affect me personally. It's just too much.
I stopped watching news a few months ago and got rid of DirecTV altogether. My attitude has been so much lighter and happier and I have been so much more productive. I really think the constant barrage of media coverage and then the re-broadcast over social media/forums is not good for anyone's soul.

I swear to God, you and Yubon are long lost twins separated by a political affiliation and an obsession with cats. Both of you like to spend a day or so going around the board riling people up with comments you know will be hateful/offensive, then end it with a happy go lucky "lighten up" thread. I'm simultaneously fascinated, exhausted and a tiny bit challenged to up my troll game by you two.

I have friends on both sides of the issue. They seem to be posting more and more on FB than before. While I do worry about what is going to happen if Trump continues to hire such sketchy people, there isn't much I can do. I really do feel like Pence will be the President before this is all over. I don't know which is worse, having Trump as the President or having to defend his actions. Both suck.

and i've sure learned a lot about people here lately gina Isn't that the truth?! There are a whole lot of people who have made me think they just aren't very pleasant and I don't want to spend my energy on that attitude. I want to come here to talk about silly stuff or be lighthearted. I've not been around nearly as much with the hope that the pendulum will swing the other way soon. SaveSave

Good thought, Lauren, although I don't expect it to work all that well here. Lots of Peas seem to have forgotten, or just have no concept, that the goal in life should be to be happy people. How does getting all worked up over politics, something we have little control over, fit into striving for happiness in our individual lives?

How does getting all worked up over politics, something we have little control over, fit into striving for happiness in our individual lives? While I don't think much will change for me (retired, white, middle class), I do worry for many of the children I have taught. The bullying and hate being spread is affecting them. I came from a predominantly white neighborhood and really didn't have many feelings for people who didn't look or believe like me. Having taught in a very diverse schools system, I am so thankful to have learned that we are much more alike than different and we all need to be loved and respected.

How does getting all worked up over politics, something we have little control over, fit into striving for happiness in our individual lives? We do have control over politics in a democracy. That's why it's preferable to a monarchy or dictatorship. And we do want people to be happy. That's why we care.

On that note, are you planning anything holiday like with your DGD? Before or after or something? Yes. I'm picking her up on December 26th. She'll spend 4-5 days with me. I'll be seeing her a lot this month even though she lives 2 1/2 hours away. This coming weekend is her birthday party so we'll be there. Two weeks later, we're spending the weekend with her and her family and then she'll be at my house on the 26th. It's a good month!!

I'm simultaneously fascinated, exhausted and a tiny bit challenged to up my troll game by you two. Years ago, I'd agree with you. But in all honesty, I don't see my comments being any more hateful or offensive than a great many other people's comments; especially on political threads. I think you tend to look at my posts through a lens that you don't apply to others.

I always thought I didn't like cats. Then four years ago, my dh moved in with his cat. Then we got another one. The first one died and we got another. I love those cats to pieces. I call them Fat Cat and the Brat Cat (one is fat, duh. The other is so mischievous it's insane). So can I be a cat lady with 2 cats?

I agree I know I am trying to not watch TV news and am ignoring more posts on FB. At this point there is nothing I can do and getting upset isn't going to change anything but will just hurt me and those around me. Enjoying the holidays is much more fun. I do still check in to see what is going on in the world I am not living under a bush but am ignoring politics as much as possible.

It feels like people just want to be angry I don't want to be mad at every little thing, who has time for that and wouldn't that just suck out all the joy from our lives It feels like a lot of people are afraid, and being told to "lighten up" is not a balm for soothing fears. AKC posted a light and fluffy, what breed of dog should the new president have, post on Facebook. It was really sad, post after post of how horrible Trump was/is, how he doesn't deserve a dog, how his family doesn't deserve a dog, on and on and on. It was really sad that something that was meant to be fun turned into just more of the same. That should have been a fun post, but it couldn't because instead of just walking away or not posting, the haters had to post. And why, what is the point of that. Not everyone wants to have everything be full of hate. Some of us just want to hope for the best, look at anything that might work or be good or just not be full of doom and gloom every day about every thing. But some others just want to bring everyone down. Misery loves company I guess

I have no more patience with any political thread. It's really cut down my options here. I was amused by the crazy Michael's ranter thread and shocked that it hadn't gone political considering the appearance of Trump in her rant. Maybe i just got to it before it exploded. Carry on.

That's rich coming from someone who was so "un-light" they had to be put into time out.
Post after post after post about politics...and now YOU can decide everyone else needs to "lighten up"? No wonder you voted for Trump, he's the perfect leader for you....same delusional, hypocritical thought process.
