We have a Liberty at our school. Her older sister is Trinity. Their brother is Dave, which I always found funny. Two trendy, kind of fanciful names ... and Dave. That made me laugh out loud .

I met a Freedom once (not a kid), so Liberty doesn't seem too odd to me.

DH coworker is adopting a baby which was born yesterday. So, tonight as he is telling me she has been born and they got photos and such at work today, he tells me baby's name is Liberty. I know we have had threads upon threads of weird names, but is this the new Nevaeh? Wouldn't that be Ytrebil?

I have three siblings, all with very uncommon names for their time (two have since become more common, but this was close to 50 years ago when uncommon names were very...uncommon!). And I'm Julee (actually Julie). And I'm the third child, so it's not like they ran out of cool names. They named me plainly, then went ahead and gave my younger sister an uncommon name after me. It is strange how this affected me so much in a lot of ways while growing up. (I can't believe I'm admitting that.) And there has to be hundreds children named La-a running around for the amount of times I've heard someone claim to have met one and had the pronunciation conversation with her. I think La-a is the new Nosmo King (Or Shithead, Orangejello/Lemonjello - take your pick).

I know a Liberty. She was born around the 4th of July, a few years after 9/11, to a firefighter dad. Seems like a good choice. They do call her Libby.

I know a couple of Libertys who are mid teens so I don't think it's particularly new. I like it and I'm normally not a fan of unusual names.

Was reading In Style last night and noticed a designer named Liberty Ross. She's 35 and British. So it is not a new name, nor one limited to the USA. See my post above yours

I was infatuated with River Phoenix when I was younger and read everything about him that I could find. One of his sisters is named Liberty. Actually, most of the members of the Phoenix family have uncommon names--River, Rain, Summer, Leaf (this was Joaquin's chosen name for a while when he was younger), Heart, etc. I hate made-up and creatively spelled names, but the Phoenix family's names don't even ping my radar, probably because they're spelled correctly and aren't a bunch of letters shoved together.
My daughter is named "Libby" and every once in awhile, I call her "Liberty Bell" like the little sister in Juno. She's only 7, so she has no idea where I got that nickname from, but she's used to my randomness by now.

I actually like that name. I almost named my DD Glory. And I'm sure everyone who would have teased her and called her Glory Hole is cursing you right now. The rest of the planet thanks you.

We have Liberty's in our family tree from the late 1700's, early 1800's (along with a bunch of George Washington lastnames). Does that count? This is the first I've heard of it as a current name. I like it.

Not a weird name to me, I grew up with a girl named Liberty (and I'm 35)! I love it shortened to Libby!

See my post above yours Yup, I know a couple of people named Liberty also - and it's apparently been used a while here judging by this: Another thing I didn't know!

I always thought of Liberty as an old fashioned name (like early 1800s) for a man. I have never known or heard of any modern day Libertys, but I guess I'm clearly in the minority.
Normally I don't like unusual names, but I do think Liberty is a cute name, especially when Libby is used as a nickname.

I'm usually one for "WTF were they thinking" on some of the baby names this decade, but I actually like Liberty. Has me curious though to what her middle name is. (I may have missed this since I haven't read all three pages )

Julee, have you ever asked your parents about their naming disparity? I did ask. My mom took offense. She told me I was being rude to notice and to not like my name (not my point, but representative of how she addresses most things).

I don't mean to be disrespectful to your Mum but that's a really strange way of wording it. Julie/Julee is a pretty name though anyway

People are weird -- but somehow I expect moms to be better than that.

Aw... that's not the kind of response (general) you would expect to hear from your mother. FWIW, every time I see your posts, whether you're Julee or or Julie, I feel a hint of refreshing sea breeze. So, I guess to me, your name is Sea Breeze.

I have only known on female named Liberty. She would be a very old lady by now. I like the name but I don't care for the nick name Libby.

I think of the old movie "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" ... that was from the early 60's. I can't get the song out of my head since reading this thread!
