Some really good people have left this board because of the ugliness of the Trump haters ... ... There IS discussion here and plenty of it. We've actually had a pretty civil one over on your heartbeat bill thread. What there is not is tolerance for fake news sources and "I heard" being used as evidence in discussions, and that causes some people to get mad and feel like they're being picked on. From the conservative side, there is no tolerance for any liberal assertion that some ideas are racist, misogynist or otherwise morally wrong. We are not allowed to make moral judgements. Only conservatives on this board are apparently allowed to make moral judgements. So I call BS on the idea that people left because of the "ugliness of the Trump haters." They left because they were bothered by having their beliefs challenged and didn't like being asked to support what they asserted with facts. And they'll probably be back if they're not already. I know you're not interested in my opinion, Lauren. Just throwing it out there for the sake of discussion.  They left (IMO) because this board is unlike their Facebook and/or church or other echo chambers where they hear what they want to hear. Here they hear "the other side" often w/logic, evidence and reason. And, for many, cognitive dissonance is hard to deal with. Easier to stomp off and call names. That's one of the things I LOVE about this board, all walks. Unlike Facebook, Twitter, church, and other echo chambers where we congregate w/like-minded individuals, this board mixes it up, like life: Christians, Muslims, Jews, Atheists, gay, straight, old, young. And it's obvious when people are just throwing out stubborn beliefs vs. when they're presenting opinions along with evidence, facts and thought. I think many of those who left can't take the heat, the data, the messiness and the nuance of real life and real situations. |

I don't know whatever delusional state/alternate universe you are in where you have suddenly rewritten yourself as this "light-hearted, fun, teasing" person...but here's a clue, no-one's buying it. This may come as a shock to you, but I'll bet no-one ever thinks of you as "that poster with the great sense if humour".
You may be able to convince yourself that's who you are but the majority of the rest of us can see what's really happening, you were bitter and humourless before this election and now you have to cope with the fact that you elected a total buffoon as your 'dear leader' and you aren't being given the opportunity to gloat as you thought you'd be able to. So now you have try to turn the tables and convince everyone else not to talk about politics because you don't want to deal with how Trump is fucking up every single day.
All this talk of everyone "levity, and teasing and lighten up" is just an attempt at creating a smoke screen because you can't bear to have your nose rubbed in the stink you helped to create. Your one and only defense to Trump's idiocy is always "but Hillary..."
Ironic that you always claim you have to right to post about whatever you want and then have the audacity to complain how sick you are of everyone else posting about what THEY want.
Still, "lighten up" you'll only have 4 years of it...better work on the thickness of that skin - go get a nice orange spray tan, that might help.

I think if you find yourself on a message board, actually wishing people there ill--people that you've known for YEARS-- because they disagree with you, you may need to take a hard look at yourself and what you're gaining from being a member of the board.

And if people actually read what I said, its that I wish ill on her in that I hope she gets treated the way she treats others who have left the board because of the ugliness. Of course, it's the second part that is ignored. All the more reason to just not engage with these people. There are too many people who are truly nice here and its time to limit my interactions to those with them.

I went back and reread what Merge said that was so worthy of being wished "ill will" and saw nothing. It seems her saying that people are thin skinned must have touched a nerve.
I disagree with 99% of what you post politically. Because of that, I generally choose not to engage with you. Yet no ill will is wished on you, even though I am often frustrated by how I see YOU treat others.

This post was not intended to be a rile up the liberals post. It was teasing the peas who thought there were too many political posts and couldn't wait for the election to end.
