In so many pictures being shown of him, his smile never reaches his eyes very often. He was dealing with demons for sure. So sad. He was so funny and had such a quick wit.

I've always noticed that about him. I feel so sorry for what he was battling. And even more so for the journey his family now has ahead of them.

Funny you should say that. I was just thinking that when I saw an online picture of him. Like he is good to and loves everyone around him but himself not so much? If he could have only saw himself through others. I don't pretend to understand, but know he will be missed.

He was such an incredibly amazing soul.

I have a friend who put it so succinctly yesterday... he has the kindest eyes. I think that's a perfect description.

He's very rarely looked happy to me... Of all the pictures being published of him, I've only seen two where his eyes smile and he gets laugh lines... You could always see there was something else going on behind the surface...

In looking at recent pictures of him, he looked thin and haggard. It's a considerable change from his usual appearance. He did look distant and withdrawn in many of these pictures.
Yubon, we aren't diagnosing him and prescribing meds. We are just talking on a message board. STFU.

I feel guilty thinking anything negative about someone who obviously had a lot going on mentally. I was never a huge fan of his stand up comedy. During many interviews I felt he never took his "comedian" hat off and he was over the top for my taste. It was as if he was always acting. However, his acting roles in film were amazing and I definitely feel like we have lost a good one. He was a people lover and I just wish he loved himself as much as he loved others. He is loved as well and it's so profoundly sad that it isn't enough.

I can't imagine that looking at photo's on-line are a window into the totality of Robin Williams life.
A lot of his friends have been sharing stories today of happy times too.

I don't feel the need to be an online psychologist to understand the long recognized truisms about comedians and depression. I did see this side by side photo comparison tonight and it really struck me. His eyes are the only thing that are the same.

I think he looks the same. I mean there is 30 years between those photos and he looks about as similar as one could be.

Wow Peas, you know what? Harrison Ford never smiles, or at least never smiles all the way to his ears.
Someone better go check on him ASAP !!!!!!!

Sean Connery has always smiled with his eyes. Or as Tara Banks calls it, "smizing".
So I guess that makes him the happiest man on Earth!

Aside from the expected wrinkles, his nose is more bulbous, his jowls have grown and his lips are gone. But his eyes, they are a constant.

Since I've lived it with 2 immediate family members, to me it is similar to signs of aging, mental illness and substance abuse. But I'm not an online psychiatrist, just reflecting on topics that touch many of us for whatever reason

I wasn't being a smart ass. I just look at the photo and see aging. The nose continues to grow throughout life. I can't explain the lips though. Perhaps he has false teeth which would change the lips.

There isn't an eyeroll smiley big enough.

I had always kind of wondered if Robin Williams wasn't bipolar. It seemed,at times, that his comedy was manic. And then there are the deep depressions that are now being discussed. Whatever the case, it's sad to have him gone.

Yeah, that was kind of my point. We all know he had those issues. And I see some similarities in physical changes that go beyond wrinkles and gaining weight and growing extra hair and turning gray. I don't know if they mean anything but they were noticeable to me. Not sure why this such a hot button issue for you.

So now everyone's a psychiatrist. No, it's just an impression I got when I saw a picture. Might be because of current circumstances. Not a psychiatrist and don't even play one on TV. Must be just what you see from your armchair.

I was actually kind of thinking that about his eyes myself--at least in photos. But generally, if you watch him in interviews or whatever, it doesn't seem quite the same way.

It doesn't take a psychiatrist to read facial expression. Normal humans have been doing it for millions of years. It starts quite early in a human's life. I bet your son is good at reading the faces of those around him to know what kind of mood they are in. The ability to pick up on nuances of facial expressions is how we sometimes know we were just lied to, or that someone is holding out on us. The inability to read facial expression is part of the social difficulties of people on the autism spectrum.
As I said, it is something I noticed a very long time ago that his eyes didn't always smile when the rest of his face did. As for Harrison Ford, yes, he often is seen smiling with his lower face in photos. But his public persona isn't the happy happy snappy comedian either.

So now everyone's a psychiatrist. I think people were just commenting on what they observed, not giving a medical diagnosis... Some people always look happy no matter what is happening, some look sad no matter what, others look sour, bitchy, angry, etc... Just an observation... I hope you're dealing okay with his passing... I don't know anything about you, but this is the second thread about Robin Williams that you've commented on and in both you sound like you're having a rough day...
