So, every year I hang out with my kids. We stay up, eat junk food, watch television or movies. Just kind of wing it.
Last year I bought Christmas crackers (the kind you pull apart, with trinkets inside) on sale, just because we'd never done them before. Kids liked them.
This year I had bought photo props, and was going to have a funny photo shoot. But they got wet and ruined (roof leak on Christmas Eve). And come to find out, older kids are happy that props are ruined, because "photo shoots are lame."
So.... I guess plan is to just relax NYE. I really wanted to do something to commemorate it, but can't think of anything that older kids wouldn't find annoying and lame. And the younger kids usually fall asleep before midnight (that's not really a bad thing).
So, tell me about what you'll be doing this NYE.

I'm not a huge fan of NYE so I expect we'll wander round to our local pub, have a couple of drinks with some neighbours and folk from the village then either have a Thai rake away or something simple at home.

I am going to my sister's house. Just a small group of friends. Food. Cards against humanity. It should be fun.

Eh. Nothing, probably. I asked SO if he wanted to do anything special (we don't usually) but he said no. Maybe we'll venture out to the casino for a bit but otherwise, probably nothing. Maybe I'll try to come up with something special for dinner.

This will be our third NYE celebrating at a hotel with 250 other people including dh's brother and sister-in-law who are also our dear friends. There's cocktail hour with great appetizers, dinner, dancing to a great live band, champagne at midnight, a great dessert buffet, continental breakfast at 1:00 am then a buffet breakfast in the morning...the room is included in the package price. We have a great time! We got married at midnight on NYE 2012 so this is our anniversary celebration as well!

Turning 43.
We are having a late Christmas celebration with my brothers and their families. We will celebrate a few birthdays at the same time. My brother's was the 23rd, my sister and niece are tomorrow and I'm the 31st. If it's like any normal sibling gathering, a nerf war will break out between the dads and the kids at some point. We will spend some time visiting and playing a few board games and eating. We will be up and heading home on the 1st, so I doubt we will be up too terribly late.

I generally have no plans and go to bed before midnight. New Year's Day my DH will make pork and sauerkraut for luck (Pennsylvania Dutch tradition).

DSO and DS will be away camping, and DD will be away with her boyfriend. I'll be all alone! My BFF said that I could hang out with them. I think I'll take her up on the offer. We've been friends for 43 years and we've never spent NYE together!!
Plus I have a bottle of Moet for her - I bought tickets in a raffle at work and I told her if I won she could have the bottle of Moet (I don't drink). Well I actually won, so now she gets the Moet. It will be a surprise because I didn't tell her that I won.

Yeah we were there for thanksgiving and it was so quiet (and really nice, actually!). On a spur of the moment decision, we bought the concert tickets and decided then to go back. I am actually really excited about seeing him in concert!

We'll probably do what we've done for the last number of years (not sure how long this tradition has been going on). The family and a few friends come here and we have fondue--cheese, oil to cook protein, and chocolate for dessert. We listen to music, play a game or two, and then ring in the new year with a champagne toast. We'll have pork and sauerkraut after that. Our group has shrunk a bit though because my ds (and he always brought a friend or two) has his own place this year and they are doing a masquerade party. My dd's one friend who comes every year will be out of town. She's trying to round up another friend.

We usually don't do much for NYE. We've never been big into anything where there will be crowds of people even before we had our kid. We mostly just stay home, watch the movies we got for Christmas or something we haven't seen on Netflix and turn in early. We're so boring!

I'll be dancing on a table with a lampshade on my head. NOT! We never do anything for NYE except relax. We'll likely watch a DVD and I'll try and stay up until 10pm. Ta-Da! a I like our NYE, because it's a low key way to rest after the holiday busy stuff and before school resumes.

Nothing. i'll be alone and this will be my first NYE without my husband. I was hoping to have this divorce final by the end of the year but that isn't going to happen. He is on his way to Nevada to see his family (we live in Texas) and I'm pretty sure we both have to sign some papers for this thing to be over.
Years ago we spent NYE with friends of ours. it would just be the four of us and we'd snack on appetizers and play games and have so much fun. Other years we'd let the girls invite friends over and they'd have a sleepover party. Now my girls are grown up and make their own plans. I don't expect or want to be included but NYE has always been a day/night that I get a little depressed if I do nothing so I am trying to prepare myself to not be that way.
Plus this year I have to go back to work on January 2 so that's a bummer.

We typically go out to eat and then go home and turn in around 10. Not that exciting.

Absolutely nothing, thankfully! Until this year we've always gone to my parents a few days after Christmas and we stay through New Year's. But this year it would be too much for them to have the four of us and the dog so we're staying home. Dh and I will go see them after the kids go back to school. Ds is going back to Georgia before New Year's because he wants to be there with his friends. And dd, who is finally 21 (in August), is happy to be staying here because she's going out with several friends. They've already bought their tickets to a local bar that has food, a few drinks, party favors, etc. included in the ticket fee. When we're at my parents' I've always put together an hors d'oeuvres type dinner -- cheeses, olives, meats, shrimp cocktail, chips, whatever -- and everyone just makes up their own plate. So I might do that for me and dh. Or I might not. I'm sick of cooking and dealing with food, and I'm annoyed that I ended up cleaning up after Christmas dinner even though I cooked the whole thing. (and next year things will change in that department, if they all want to eat on Christmas ) -- But that's another thread, lol. So I might not do anything and maybe we'll just get take-out.

We do the same thing every year. DS and I put out a "fun food" spread of cheese, salami, and crackers, chips and lipton onion dip, olives (it just isn't a party without olives!), and some holiday sweets at about 7pm and we watch movies or play a game till midnight, whrn we toast the new year. ♡

With any luck I'll be in bed around 10. We will have a dinner of appetizers, play some skipbo and tetris, watch the ball drop in NYC and go to bed. We won't wait for midnight local time. That is our NYE traditions and I"m happy with it.

in the afternoon (1-5) I'm hosting the family gathering for DH's side - I was bad and didn't invite EVERYone (which is 60-ish people) but I invited 3 nieces and a nephew and their spouse/kids so that'll be 11 adults and 7 kids (9-15) which'll still be a decent number plus the 4 of us. It's potluck-ish...I'll make a ham and some sides and desserts and everyone will bring a covered dish or drinks or something...
Then in the evening, it'll just be the 4 of us - we'll have a dessert and appetiser buffet and watch a movie and/or play a family game and gather around someone's computer to watch the ball drop at midnight.

I will be alone, my DH and boys will be in Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl. They will be either really happy, or really mad at midnight, but hopefully they will be over it when I pick them up on the first.

I have a wedding on NYE in Charlotte to attend - will either be at the reception or hanging with friends at midnight. We'll see how the night goes! Have a 4 hour drive home the next day, then it's back to work, so won't get too crazy.
