Has a celebrity death ever caused you or someone you know to literally cry?
I was was reading an article about Robin Williams and one response stated that her 13 year old son burst into tears when he heard of Robin's passing because Robin was the boy's favorite actor.
I admit, that while certain celebrity deaths have left me shaking my head with sadness, I have never actually cried. It's amazing to me the impact that celebrities/public figures can have on people's lives and never know that person in real life.
Several people come to mind that I imagine caused many tears to be shed by people that the deceased had no idea of the impact their life had on people.

No, but Phil Hartman's murder had me in a bit of a fog for a while.

I know when Payne Stewart, the golfer, died several years ago, it really affected my dh. He didn't cry, but he was certainly shaken by it.

I probably have, I just can't remember - so many have died in my lifetime. I do, however, often shed tears when they roll the memorial photos and such on the awards shows. There are so many celebrities who touch our lives in some way and it's sad when they're gone.

Robin's was the first one that made me cry. Probably because I can empathize with what he was going through, and that scares the shit out of me.

Not me personally but I know someone who was devastated when a member of the boyband Boyzone died a few years ago. I felt incredibly sad when Andy Whitfield died and it lingered for a while but it didn't bring me to tears.

I can remember crying after JFK Jr. died and Princess Di. It was more watching the retrospectives/services than the actual news that they passed.

I cried when I heard about Tony Gwynn's passing and I cried last night when I read the letter Robin Williams' daughter wrote online.

Yes, but I cry. I cry over books, movies, commercials, YouTube videos, so it's not such a stretch. Not every celebrity but some I have, especially if their work has touched me. I'm a pretty empathetic and sensitive person, I used to be embarrassed by it but I don't think it's the worst trait one can have.

I was really shocked when Princess Diana died ... I definitely had a tear in my eye watching her two boys following her casket

This was a tough one. Robin Williams brought so much laughter & fun through his movies, stand up performances, & comedy routines.

The only time I think I cried just at the news was when Princess Di passed away. I've cried several times for several celebrities, but that was when I read tributes to them or saw their service on tv. But I'm a crier.

I was/am deeply saddened by Robin Williams' death, but didn't cry until the next morning when I saw the tweet from The Academy with the photo of Genie and Aladdin saying "Genie, you're free". Big ugly cry at 6am. I know how depression feels and this quote epitomized the tragic relief that I believe he was seeking.

I cried when John Lennon and George Harrison died. I can't remember a time when I wasn't a Beatles fan. I was 12 when John died, and I found out at school and had to go home.

I can't say that a celebrity's death has caused me to cry. Some upset me more than others and there are some celebrities I still miss.
However, I knew Robin William's death would really hit my sister hard. I've always told her that she is his [HASH] 1 fan. She has always LOVED him and anything he does.
She said she was home when she heard about it on the news and she just sat on the bed and cried. My sister is not normally one to easily cry but I knew this would upset her.

Normally I just say "awww how sad"...occasionally reminisce about characters they have played.
Robin Williams death made me sad, and I have shed some tears. Like another poster it scares me.
As a side, I often cry during shows when fictional characters die.

Some yes some no. After the loss of my father I think it makes me more vulnerable to these types of things. I did also cry for Princess Diana, being a mother of a young child at the time really had an impact on me. I think when you can connect to the person no matter who it is, you are going to shed a tear. Heck I even cried after the death of HP's Dumbledore and Snape characters.

I usually don't find that a celebrity's death itself upsets me enough to make me cry. I am more likely to cry when seeing someone else cry. So when someone gets choked up talking about the loss, then I may feel tearful. I guess I'm susceptible to tears. I can "catch" crying from someone else.

I shed a few tears over Robin's death and also over John Denver's death. Both men brought me a lot of joy. I will miss them.

No, I don't think so. It makes me feel sad but I haven't cried. And it depends on the age, for some reason. Robin Williams, to me, was "young." 63 has a lot of life left and I feel terribly for his children.
Lauren Bacall was 89. What an amazing life she led. We should all have such exciting, wonderful lives. That doesn't really make me "sad" but sort of just reflective.

Ryan White. His death from AIDS really affected me. I cut out his obituary and still have it.

I am that person on the couch, silently wiping tears away when I'm reading a book that gets me.

The thing that shakes me up about Robin Williams is how much he must have been suffering. This man who gave so freely of his talents and time, who worked so hard to deal with substance abuse and depression, ended up feeling so alone and without hope that he couldn't see his way out. The thought of anyone in that kind of pain is just heartbreaking.
Phil Hartman was another one. He went to sleep thinking he was dealing with life and problems, thinking he had time, a future with his children, and his career- and his wife just took it all away, just like that. For what?
It's not just celebrities- I feel this way when I hear stories like this locally, or on the news. When I was still teaching, we got word during a school day that a student's mom committed suicide that morning. She worked at a bank and she was stealing the money she was supposed to be shredding. A friend called her on her day off and told her the police were on the way to arrest her. In a moment of panic, she committed suicide. For weeks, all I could think of was how a normal day can just turn upside down. One minute she's making a list of things to do for her son's Communion party, she gets a phone call and ten minutes later she's dead. She drove her son to school that morning, kissed him goodbye and planned to pick him up that afternoon. But he never saw her again. That family just exploded in the blink of an eye. It was hard to wrap your head around it, it was so sad.

Certain ones bother me and yes I have cried.. not sure why.. but like others posted:
Princess Di (I LOVED LOVED her and collected all kinds of magazines and such on her.. even have a Precious Moments based on her) It was an ugly cry
John Ritter, Robin Williams, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston.. maybe shook up about and a little cry... and bothersome... although Robin Williams really has been on my mind more so than the others.. maybe because of his situation.. I mean Michael/Whitney.. it was almost not like a shock because of all the drug use and so forth... but still sad about it.
Other celebrities.... usually not, especially if they are older...

I will admit to crying over two celebrity deaths... Whitney Houston and Robin Williams. Now, these weren't all out waterworks tears but my eyes did well up, tears fell, and I felt tremendous sadness inside. I still feel that way even thinking about the both of them. I know my mom cried a lot when Princess Diana passed away, and many of my in-laws shed tears over Michael Jackson.

I honestly can't say that I have. I do know I teared up watching Princess Diana's funeral but learning the actual news - no but then again I turned 21 the night before so let's just say I was a tad tired the next morning. I do feel sad upon learning of Robin William's death but I'm currently on vacation with our extended family so I haven't been "on" meaning online or watching tv much so am not aware of specifics or had time to think about it.
