"You've got another THINK coming" or ,,,,,,,,,,,

"You've got another THING coming."?
I read a ton of Harlequin cheesy romance books, and the like.
I've seen "You've got another THINK coming." or slight variations (but always using the word THINK) several times now.
I always thought it was thing, not think. Have I been wrong this whole time, or is this some tpe of widespread typo due to lack of human editing and relying on spellcheck?

I've always heard and used it as "Think" as in you need to think twice about this. Don't just assume the first thought that popped into your head was the right thought... think again or "you have another think coming"

This is a dialectal variation. Some parts of the country use think some use thing. I come from a thing area. It always throws me when someone uses "think." It just sounds wrong and I have to remember it's right to someone else. It does crack me up when someone tries to correct me based on logic. Since when has logic had anything to do with language?

I think the correct usage is think; as in "if you think you're going to get away with that, you've got another think coming."

Do any of the 'thing' users have the context of a statment in which they use it?

Huh! I have never heard it said "think", always "thing"....
I find it very difficult to say the words think and coming right after each other. Too much of the hard k/c sound.

@lavendarlayoutlady, I haven't quite figured out the lines yet. I believe Thing is Midwest and Think is Eastern, but I could easily be wrong on that. All I know is I was born and raised in Idaho and we use Thing like good and proper Americans.

If you"think" about it...maybe those of us that think it that thing is proper, are actually hearing it like this....yo've got another thincoming. Kind of run together. Every instance that I can come up with, uses the word think before it...
If Mary thinks I am going to her house after she was so rude to me, she has another thing coming.
It almost makes more sense for the proper word to be think
now I am all confused! LoL!

I had never heard "think" until I was reading a bunch of books that had it in there. That's why I thought it might be a typo.

Not surprised I'm wrong. I always think of weird linguistic quirks as being an East Coast thing so it's not unusual to be wrong about this.

If the argument is that it makes more sense as "think" wouldn't it actually be "you have another THOUGHT coming?"

Do any of the 'thing' users have the context of a statment in which they use it? It would be like: "Oh, she thinks she's going to take credit for all my hard work?! Well, she's got another thing coming!" But then using "thing" doesn't make sense in this context; "another think coming" would be the follow up to the initial "she thinks." To me, you'd have to say "Oh, she things she's going to take credit for all my hard work?! Well, she's got another thing coming!" which doesn't make sense at all... and is why I beleive the correct usage is "think." See? lol

Thing. Born and raised in California. If the argument is that it makes more sense as "think" wouldn't it actually be "you have another THOUGHT coming?" Grammatically, yes, it would be another thought. But this is a non grammatical colloquialism that doesn't follow the rules of grammar. Trying to force proper grammar on the formula is why people think it has to be "thing" without following the logic of the sentence. There was no first thing so how can there be another thing? However there was a first think so there can be another think (logic, not proper grammar)

However there was a first think so there can be another think (logic, not proper grammar) Sure there is a first thing, whatever the first supposition was/is! To me, "if she thinks I'm going to give up so easily," is a "thing." The supposition that I'm a pushover, is a thing, in this line of thought. Often, in arguments people come back with "and another thing...." even if they haven't clearly been delineating "things" but arguments or suppositions.

But "thing" doesn't even make sense in the context in which it is used! "Think" does, and that's the only way I've ever heard it said (here in South Eastern US).
