I just noticed that a King George & Queen Charlotte were mentioned in the Royals thread, and it reminded me of some friends of mine.
Brothers with an ethnic last name (we'll call it German). Wives were pregnant at the same time (not intentionally). Names were chosen but not revealed. Births within a few days of each other.
Baby 1: Magdalena German (nickname Lena) -Mom had loved the name Lena since she was a kid.
Baby 2: Ruben German-they thought it fit well with their other kids' names.
Everyone except for Grandpa German loved the names. He felt they were a little *too* ethnic. Until he got curious one day and wanted to see if there had ever been a Ruben or Magdalena German, and discovered, far back in his own family line, Mr. Ruben German and his wife, Magdalena.
💜💜💜
Who else has an unexpected name coincidence story?

Not a coincidence, but odd:
My ex-husband had tow aunts who both became nuns. Their names were Gerda and Miranda. When they became nuns, Gerda chose Miranda as her "sister" name and Miranda chose "Gerda".
So Aunt Gerda was Sister Miranda and Aunt Miranda was Sister Gerda. Made for a helluva lot of confusion.

---changed the names here but....
My daughter's name is Eleanor. I have a cousin in another country who I've only met once, her name is Ellie. A few years ago (my daughter is now 18, she was about 12 then), I was reading through a family tree that one of my cousins put together....and my cousin Ellie's full name is Eleanor...and her birthday is the same day as my daughter's!!!!

I don't know if it's cool, but we met DH's first cousins last summer in Poland. Both have the same surname as us. All three of the cousins are sons of three different brothers. So we all have the same surname. Both of DH's cousins married women with the same first name so we have two Grażyna (Polish surname)s. They live about 4 miles apart. One in a small city of 20,000 and the other in a farming village of 80. so when speaking of them to one another or to one of DH's sisters, we call them farm Grażyna and city Grażyna.

Here's a cool name coincidence: Many long time peas know my admiration for Alan Rickman. Well, two years ago I married a guy named "Alan". No, not because of his name. LOL

I've felt kind of "alone" in my family, no one with a name remotely like mine. I'm from north Louisiana and around 10 years ago, my first cousin was able to trace our grandmother's maternal grandmother's family all the way to France in the 1500's. It was made easier by the fact that she was the first female in that line. There are two Angelique's, one in Quebec and one in France that I'm a direct descendant of.
My names that I planned to name the daughter's are ALSO in that lineage. And one of those names, two of my male first cousins named their daughter that name. ALL of these people are related to that one French great-great-grandmother.
On both sides of my parents families are two Aunt Mary Jones, one by birth and the other by marriage. One was a great-aunt and the other a great-great aunt. I never met the oldest one but I do remember the younger one. In fact, her grandson contacted me a few years ago.
AND, an old fashioned name that I fell in love with when watching a TV show when I was a teen AND I just named one of my dogs that name, well, that was my French great-great-grandmothers name!

My middle name is Katherine, after one of my great grandmothers.
When I started dating my husband, I learned that Katherine was the middle name of his mother, sister and niece.
When I had my daughter, I gave her the name Katherine as her middle name.
I know that Katherine is not an unusual name by any means, but I loved my husband's mother and I was really happy we shared the same middle name.

At a family event for my mum's side of the family, there was some heated discussion going on about Aunty Kath and Uncle Mick (lastname) and how many children they had. It took a while for someone to realise they were talking of two different - but related - families. Kath and Mick the elder had a son, also Michael, who happened to marry a Kathleen. One person was talking about the parents, the other about their son and his wife. I gather this is not an uncommon problem in large Irish Catholic families!

I just read this story this morning on the BBC about two guys who met up because their names including their middle name was identical. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-38566161It started when Sam Mitchell, a 19-year-old plasterer in Australia, contacted a 22-year-old British backpacker on social media because he shared his exact name. "You may be wondering why I have sent you a friend request. I had to because we share the same name. Middle name as well. Good day sir," he wrote. The reply came quickly: "Yeah, and what is stranger is that I've just moved from the UK to Australia." Four hours later, the Australian and his friends pooled their money to buy the London man a ticket from Victoria to Tasmania for the following morning, New Year's Eve. "The idea of flying him down got tossed about," Australian Sam told the BBC. "The more beers we had, the better the idea became." The more beers we had, the better the idea became - LOL

I have a friend who is french... she has great or great great grand cousins who both married men with the same last name but were not related.
Move forward 4 or 5 generations and her brother meets his wife who has the same last name as him and almost the same first name...
he is Julien and she is Julienne same last name.
They are now married.. no questions about changing last names only firsts!

I come from an extremely large family. I have over 60 first cousins. One of my cousins has a little girl around 5 that's name is Claire. When I saw her recently I told her if my 8 year old had been a girl we were going to name her Claire and then I told her the full name would have been Claire Elizabeth. She laughed and said that was her little girl's name. I thought that was too funny!

My male cousin is Casey Smith, he married Kendall Smith. Then my daughter married a Kendall Smith so I have both a cousin's wife and a son-in-law, both named Kendall Smith. One is a male, one is female.

My mother in law gave up a baby up for adoption when she was young. The "baby" found MIL 40 years later. Mother in laws name was Mary Ann. Daughter's name is Maryanne. Such an odd coincidence. Both of my grandfathers had the exact same first and middle names. Both my mom and my grandmother had babies within days of each other (big news back in the late 60's) Both boys, both had the same fist and middle names...which were my grandfathers names.

In college, I had a married friend named Kathy Smith. She and her husband attended my wedding. Twenty years later, I see my friend, Kathy Higgins Smith, from high school. And then see her dh's picture. It's the same man! So I was friends with Kathy Smith in college and Kathy Smith from high school. Two different women married (at different times!) to the same man.

I was adopted at six months old and christened a few weeks later. My mother chose her sister as my godmother. My aunt's name was and is somewhat unusual, but not unheard of. A few years ago I met my birth mother. Her twin sister has the same name as my aunt/godmother. Had she kept me (not something she was given a say in) my godmother would have had the same name.

Well, I don't think it was cool, but someone did ;-)
My name is Jennifer, and my parents are Roger and Kathy. My freshman year college roommate's name was Jennifer, and her parents are Roger and Kathy.
I am convinced whomever was making roommate assignments at the college saw this, and matched us up based on this alone because we had NOTHING else in common. She was an evil, crazy thief. LOL.

My husband's parents divorced when he was young. His father remarried and had a son named Erin. His mom remarried and had a daughter named Aaron. So, doubly odd. First that they each named their child that name, but also because they both flip flopped the typical gender spelling of the names. Also, my husband's real father and stepfather both have the same first name. One which isn't very common.

I don't have a name story, but an interesting birthday story. My great-grandparents were born on the same date, same year, so they were exactly the same age. They both passed away on the same date, but 9 yrs. apart (May 9, one in 1967 and the other in 1976).
Their daughter, my grandmother, was married but my grandfather was killed in the war when my my mother was 1. She didn't remarry, but had a companion and they had the same birthday.

My husband had a daughter with a girlfriend years before we met that died when she was 3 months old. Her name was Lisa Marie. Our son married a girl named Lisa Marie. Dh must have not realized what her middle name was until she changed her named on Facebook to Lisa Marie (our last name). When he saw it he got this sort of shocked look on his face and asked who Lisa Marie (our last name) was. He seemed a bit relieved when I told him it was his daughter-in-law. It was kind of like he had seen a ghost.

My grandmother used to call me by my initials - CJ. She was the only one who called me that, it was 'her' thing. She died when my oldest DD was young, so she wouldn't remember that. When DD was expecting her 2nd child she had an ultrasound, found out she was having a boy and going to name him Caleb James - CJ. Another Grandmother with a CJ! I'm the only one allowed to call him that. Both of our daughters married men named Chris, kind of confusing when we're all together, but we manage. Luckily we love both of them. Our son is under orders not to date anyone named Christine or anything close. Old brains can't handle any more.

Here's an interesting one to me. I have 3 names - a joint first name like Joann and a middle name like Marie.
My grandfather married my grandmother whose name we'll say was Jo. Later he left Jo and married his second wife, Ann. After Ann died he wanted to come back to Jo but she wouldn't have him back so he married a wealthy widow named Marie.
So my name consists of all 3 women in my grandfather's life. And definitely not on purpose. My mom says I was not named for my grandmother at all that it is coincidence her name is part of mine.
My mother married 2 different Donalds, so one is Donald and one is Don when we talk about them (they are deceased).
My husband insisted we name oldest DH a name he liked because, "No one else in the family has it." Turns out he has a first cousin with the exact same name. He said he didn't know because he did not grow up knowing him but I think he heard it at some point and put it in his head.
