I just can't wear a knit top over leggings. I feel like I am in my pajamas out in public. Today I had on a knee length sweater over grey textured heavy leggings for a 9 hour car ride. Right before we arrived, I changed into skinny jeans and ankle boots. I wasn't trying to impress anyone, I just feel too casual.
I will wear them with shorts skirts or dresses so more like a heavy tight (without feet)

Thanks for this, Elaine. I've finally looked on Lularoe and they were what led to this question. Where do you buy Tunics? I buy Irma and Perfect T tunics from Lularoe, but those are patterned and I won't mix patterns, no matter how in fashion that is. I buy a lot of tunics on Amazon in solid colors that have scoop necks (I don't like v-necks) and either rounded or hankerchief hems - like this.Elaine, these tunics look really cute! Do they run pretty true to size?

I read a few months ago that jeans are no longer acceptable wear for women over 53. (Ha, they are my favorite.) What are people supposed to wear when they get older if leggings and jeans are out? I say try stuff on and look in the mirror. If you like what you see, wear it. The hell you say . That's ridiculous. They'll never pry me out of jeans, neither skinny nor boot cut. I don't care how old I am. Leggings aren't my style, especially patterned ones, but I've seen some really nice outfits with them, and some tunics at Zulily that I love. I'm another who think leggings and age don't matter as long as you look nice.

As long as you're wearing a tunic (i.e. your butt's covered), I don't have any problem with it.

When you're at home you can wear them anytime. Also Wal-Mart. Cause you know there's gonna be somebody dressed worse then you there.

Almost 50 here...love my leggings but I havent ventured into colourful patterns yet...the wildest I get is a dark grey damask on black 😉 I work in a legging friendly workplace but I dress them up, not down. So comfy yet I get complimented on my legging/top pairings all the time. And I have a slight boot problem and leggings help to showcase my boots too lol!

I can't understand why there would ever be an age limit.
I wear skinny jeans, skinny pants that pass as leggings and anything else I want and I look damned good and why would I stop even if I'm 80? Do I need to switch to baggy J.Jill and Chicos clothing?

I'm almost your age Lauren, and I wear leggings a lot. And since I've been wearing the Lularoe leggings - I pick more subdued patterns - I have women stop me at the grocery store, etc., to ask where I got them. I haven't heard of the Lularoe brand, until this and the other thread. Where can you find them? We are going to the mall this week, so I may have to take a look! I just bought some cheap leggings from Costco, but my hips are so wide, that they do not do me any favors. Maybe a better brand would "help"! Where do you all buy your longer shirts? I have very long legs, a large middle section (thighs, hips/rear, stomach) and thin upper body. It's hard for me to find clothes that look good, so I end up wearing oversize sweats all the time!

I wear solid black leggings with tunic tops. In the summer I wear white leggings. I wear long flowing tops w/ my leggings and I think the style is flattering for my apple shape.
i don't wear printed leggings. They are just not my style. It has nothing to do with age.

I think they can look good on most ages - there are some younger women who just shouldn't wear them so it is not the number of years but how they are worn. As others have said I Hinkley they look great with tunics. I say go for it.

Do they run pretty true to size? It depends - you need to read the reviews. If there are measurements listed in the description, you can follow those. Most are made in Asia, and are very small compared to American sizes, but if the give measurements those are true. So, while I am a medium in most US tops, I am anywhere from a Large to a XXL in those tunics. But, they look great and cover my butt with material to spare and I'm 5'8".

They are sold by consultants- so you can go to the company websites and find a consultant near you, or do what I do and buy off of consultants on Facebook - there are literally hundreds of groups on Facebook where consultants sell their clothes. Even better, Yoki, one of our own peas, sells Lularoe and can get you started!

I ended up having to buy jeggings, because I am short and everything in my size has flare bell bottoms. I could make another pair of pants out of the bottoms of the last 2 pair of pants I bought.
So as long as everything is covered, they are alright.

I think rather than your age it's more is your body appropriate for a legging type outfit? Can you physically carry it off Some people in their 20's should never wear leggings Some like the aforementioned grandmother looks cute and appropriate in them. And it's if you are comfortable, can find the right top/dress to wear with the leggings

I'm 52 and wear leggings 90% of the time. However, my bum is always covered by my top!

I wear long flowing tops w/ my leggings and I think the style is flattering for my apple shape. I agree, I'm plus sized and apple shaped. I love leggings with loose or flared tops that fall between mid thigh to just above the knees. Apple shaped women tend to have pretty good legs, regardless of overall body size, so it's a good look for us. When I wear jeans, they're jeggings or skinny leg style. Normal jeans are way too baggy in the legs, they flap around my ankles like pajama pants. Because manufacturers think that if you have 50+ inch hips you must have 20 inch ankles or something. BTW. I'm 46, and don't believe in fashion rules.

As long as they aren't beige and paired with a crop top I think you're fine. Clothes don't come with an age appropriate label as far as I'm concerned, if I like somthing and it looks good I'll wear it.

I was on the "ain't ever going to wear them" fence last year. Then.... I tried a pair of Lularoe and I am hooked! They are so comfortable. I have about 5 pair now. I always wear them with a tunic top that covers both butt and cooter, because nobody wants to see a camel toe. I will be 56 this month!

I am of the theory that there isn't an age limit on clothing choices - wear what you like and what makes you comfortable - doesn't matter how old you are or what others think.

I was really hoping a store sold them because I usually have to try on a ton of jeans/pants, etc. to find something that I can wear. I have the most unproportional awkward looking body, so I would have trouble ordering them. But thanks for the info, I do appreciate it! If I was rich, after I hire my cook, I would hire a clothing expert to assist me in shopping for clothes!

Sorry to repeat what others are saying, but I agree that you are never too old to wear anything in good taste. A friend of mine turns 70 in April and she wore leggings with a tunic and I thought she looked amazing! She is a shorter woman that is not heavy, but not super slim either. She looked incredible!

I searched Lularoe and my town on facebook and found a consultant who lives on my street about 5 houses away. Once you find someone, they are happy to let you come over and try things on.

I agree with everyone. An oversized long sweater or a tunic with some tights and flats are nice.
Now if you are going to spot some leopard tights and a crop top, we really might start to wonder about you!!!!!

Do I need to switch to baggy J.Jill and Chicos clothing? Fashion rules are bullshit invented by mean girl fashion editors to create controversy and a reason their existence. That being said, I'm currently wearing a non-baggy J Jill grey and black striped tunic (which I own in two other color ways because the fabric is a nice heavyweight cotton) and suits my apple shape and thin legs very well. Psst! Lularoe is polyester. In fact J Jill is the best clothing line I've found for us apple shapes who are woefully underserved by the fashion industry. Eileen Fisher also but way more $$$.
