Miles and miles of black fence What happened to white fence? Is black the new white in farming? lol Not sure it's the "new" white. I can't speak for the farms around here but my father switched from white to black 25ish years ago. For him it was a maintenance thing of some sort. The KY Horse Park and at least one of the big, well known farms have white fencing so you do see it in pictures quite often, but a good majority use black paint.

When I was working I had about 25 miles of country road before I hit the main highway. I passed a goat/Lima farm, tons of deer, fox, etc. On more than one occasion I had to completely stop for the wild turkeys to cross the road and once I had a fantastic view of a hot air balloon for several miles. There's also the crop dusters that will scare the s*** out of you when they buzz the road.

I regularly have to stop so a flock of 18 or so turkeys can cross the street in front of my car. You can't really rush them. They're stupid, so they'll just start walking in circles instead of getting on with the crossing, and then the tom starts getting mean and making threatening gestures. Ask me how I know. In the summer, sometimes the horse farm near us hooks up a couple of horses to a wagon and takes it through the neighborhoods.

My drive is only 2 minutes (I work in the neighborhood school) so nothing exciting for me. But my friend lives out in the country and one day on her way to work she saw two cows going at it in the farmers field. She was so busy checking it out that she forgot to watch where she was going and she crashed into a tree. She had to call her husband and insurance and explain WHY she got in the accident.

I commute out in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. So I see trees, farm fields, horses, the mountains with snow on them, it's very pretty and nature-ish. Sometimes I drive by movie or tv on location shooting.. where it's spring, but they got fake Christmas decorations and snow for a future holiday movie. If I turn left at a certain intersection, I will pass the set of the tv show "Bates Motel" ( the house and hotel!) and if I go a different direction I can pass by this farmhouse that has been featured in The X-Files and Once Upon a Time. So, really I never know what I might pass by, lol. I'm glad for my interesting scenery while driving.

My commute takes about 15 minutes. I have two stop signs and 1 traffic light to deal with on the back road I take to work everyday. I live in horse/cattle country. I drive by many herds of cattle and at least a dozen horse ranches. My favorite time of year is when there are babies to see! I love all the trees along the way. It's a beautiful drive. It isn't unusual for me to be late to work due to a tractor or two on the road. I have been late to work at least a half a dozen times in the past 8 years because of cows, horses, or other farm animals in the road. After a recent storm I was really late to work because 6 horses had gotten out of their pasture and were wandering in the road. I was one of the first cars on the scene. When I stopped, I freaked out because of the horses charged my truck and I thought it was going to damage my car. How do you explain that to the insurance company?

My commute is anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours from VA into DC. Most mornings the sun is rising behind George Washington's Masonic hall (whatever it is actually called). Then, up and over the Woodrow Wilson bridge where I can see the brightly lit ferris wheel at National Harbor or look up river and see the GW Monument. Then, I see traffic, traffic, traffic for 6 miles. When I pull into work, I see the Capital and boy does she look stunning with the scaffolding down. I can see how your commute could be 2 hrs. in DC! I am from Maryland but live in Pgh. I love the drive from my parents in Bowie driving on the beltway at night and seeing the Temple! (LDS Temple). It's beautiful, especially at night and it must be an amazing sight to drivers who are not expecting it!

My commute is only 10 minutes...so it's pretty boring. I'll have to live vicariously through the Refupeas.

I drive approximately 4 minutes to work and have a gorgeous view of NORAD and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. I always think I am driving into a painting.

I go through Central Park every day. I often wait for the bus by the river (I have a choice of stops) and watch the boats go by. One of my weekend jobs is by Times Square, with all the crazy neon and gawking tourists walking in tight clusters. LOL

I commute 7 miles. There's a Walmart and a few gas stations. There's a mall that is now closed and falling apart. That's about it for excitement. I do like seeing my office building in the distance. It's the tallest building in the city (not KC, a suburb). Don't be too impressed, it's still only 8 stories.

I once stopped at a traffic light and was watching a guy walking his pug. The pug stopped at a pole, lifted his leg to pee and buddy took the opportunity to check his phone. Puglet missed the pole and peed up buddy's leg instead. It took him a good twenty second to feel it and by that time the dog had pretty much emptied his bladder all over his owner.
It was was just one of those perfect moments.

I have a 15-20 minute commute. I drive on a narrow road, alongside a canal. I did once have to stop for a peacock wandering in the middle of the road. Normally, it's only deer that are an issue. I do now pass our bridge which has been out since July when the "lovely" Governor Bully.. err.. Christie stopped all construction on state funded road projects because he did not get the gas tax increase he wanted. He got the increase and we still didn't have a bridge. They finally started working on it last month. It looks no where near done. It strange to see open water there.

California coastline! workingclassdog ....alll those snow-covered mountains must be breathtaking! scrappyesq ....that sounds awesome!! rainangel ...I loved your stories! And I agree; people-watching is the BEST! kate .....The park sounds lovely, and...omg...I would have a BLAST people-watching there!!! dazeepetals .....Wow.....LOL! Are these "erratic dancers" in their CARS, or on the sidewalks? I have to admit, once in a while, if a reallllly good song comes on, I do a little car dancing and/or singing!

One day, I saw a dead cow, feet up in the back of a pickup truck just driving down the road. Typically though I see wild turkeys who live in the field near my house, cows, and traffic. At my old job I used to see Lamp Dancer. he is a guy who dances in our downtown area with a lamp. He says he is bringing light to the world or something. He gets pretty dirty sometimes. But is always amusing. I have never heard of Lamp Dancer, so I had to Google. Is this him? Lamp Dancer
He is all kinds of awesome!

My older daughter's bus ride goes past a house with a (real) camel in the front yard... WHOA! A CAMEL? This thread is SO interesting!Oh, and the smell of Cheerios---that's very unique! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is from what seems like a million years ago....but, I'm originally from the Washington, DC/ Northern Virginia area, so I always loved driving by all the memorials, and the JohnF. Kennedy Center, the Watergate building, The Pentagon, etc. I especially loved driving when it was dark, since they're even prettier lit up, with their lights on the Potomac River. I also ---ahem---have a verrrry romantic memory of the Jefferson Memorial at night.
I also loved driving on the Francis Scott Key Bridge from Rosslyn, Virginia into Georgetown, with a view of Georgetown University and all the other buildings. OMG, and especially GORGEOUS in the fall !!! It was also fun to see the guys from Georgetown University rowing in the Potomac River. I did NOT like driving by the gas station in Georgetown that had a longggg, scarrrry staircase from the movie "The Exorcist" --they they scared me! (and sidenote---when we were teenagers, some of myfriends would go to those stairs at night and walk up and down them, just for kicks---I never went with them! Also, I don't remember what part of Maryland it was in, (near Rockville, and /or whatever city the University of Marylandis in, I think?) but once in a while,my boss had me run errands allll over Maryland, and I'd pass the a Mormon temple that was so pretty.....we calledit the castle from the "Wizard of Oz"

We've only been to Colorado once, and---WHOA---we couldn't get over how GORGEOUS it was! This may sound weird to you---but my sister always marveled that the sky seemed even BIGGER and even prettier in Colorado, and we agreed. Would you agree with that, orrr does it sound cray cray? Also, thanks for starting this thread----so enjoyable!

My commute is less than 5 minutes and one stop sign.
On very lucky days days as I cross the bridge into town I will see a little family of deer drinking from the river/creek below.

Depending on the time of day I'd take Chain Bridge, but Key was faster if it wasn't rush hour. That gas station near the Exorcist steps is funny... there's another gas station underneath that odd church in Rosslyn, just on the other side of the bridge. The cost of gas on the DC side could be almost $1.00 MORE than in Virginia, and yet people would be getting gas there in DC. With the other gas station visible across the bridge. oy.. For $1.00 per gallon difference I'd be driving over that bridge to fill up. I always wondered about that. Although, I guess if you can afford to live in Georgetown maybe it doesn't matter how much gas is.

I forgot to say one thing I saw (ONCE) and that was enough....
Be strong PEAS cause this is gross..and if you are an animal lover don't read....
Driving home one evening and I am sitting at an intersection (this town in Colorado is basically the armpit of Colorado, the town literally stinks (it's mostly industrial) anyways, I have to drive through this town to get to my town... I came up to an intersection and just sitting there minding my own business and I look over to see an old truck with wooden sides that go up pretty high. I got to looking at it and now I see pig's ears and feet and parts sticking out the sides... it was a truck full of pig parts.. most disgusting thing I have ever seen in my life!!

When the weather is warmer, a small flock of urban ducks hangs out on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the city. But I think they must migrate further south at this time of year, because I haven't seen them in a while.

I am fortunate enough to live on the same block as my work. My commute is a 3 minute walk. But sometimes, I have to get through a gang that hangs out in my front yard. This photo was taken from my doorway. The little buggers wouldn't even move until I hollered at them! Untitled by scrapbookdiva, on Flickr

They are solid little critters! Glad you managed to avoid hitting it. Not only for the beaver, but I bet it would do a number on your car!
