It would bother me, but I wouldn't say anything, nor would I text the lawyer.
Your daughter did the right thing, thank goodness. She obviously learned appropriate manners somewhere.

Why did you choose to fight the ticket rather than pay it straight up? Or, are you required to go to court regardless? We fought the ticket to avoid points on her license. And for the person who asked why she went with an attorney ... The friend's mom offered to take care of it with a letter and paying of the fine. This particular little town wouldn't allow it and therefore she kind of got "stuck" going with my DD. Of course I knew I could go with her and I would have been more than happy to go, but of course, "I'm not an attorney" to quote my DD and I know nothing. Ann So you are mad at the mom for interfering in what you felt should have been a natural consequence when you were actually fighting against the natural consequence of her poor decision-making? Funny.

I get where you're coming from, but I hardly think the other mother was trying to "circumvent" the life lesson you want your kid to learn. More then likely, I think she was just trying to be sympathetic. I'm sure $175 is way less of a hit to the attorney's pocketbook than it is DD's.
Besides, I don't think "the value of money" is quite the right lesson to be learned here. It's "driving is a privilege, not a right, so follow the rules or deal with the consequences because look-- they happen to be expensive."
