Trump picked a great nominee. Hopefully the dems will not mess this up.
My opinion.

I hope they'll try their very best to "mess it up". You know, kind of like how the Republicans did for the past year on Garland.

No, he's not an absolute disaster, but it's difficult not to keep in mind the past year and feel like this seat was stolen. Democrats will have to be the grown-ups again and put his confirmation through, despite having been assured by Republicans just six months ago that the court could operate just fine with only eight justices. We have bigger fish to fry.

I think he will be fine.
I sincerely hope the Dems dont pull the tit for tat crap everyone is expecting. Put him through the vetting process, and either confirm him or don't, but let's not drag this out. I wish the Repubs hadn't done that to Garland, I thought he was fine too. But they did, and it's done and over with. Hopefully everyone can be grown-ups and do their jobs this time around.

What is his religion? I'm curious because currently there is no Protestant on the court.
He seems like a conservative pick with good credentials. I won't agree with his views but then I didn't agree with Scalia. The big challenge will be when Kennedy retires. Replacing Scalia with another conservative really doesn't change things much.

I want them to block it at least 9 months.. why give them what they want... they played games over the last year.

We have bigger fish to fry. That's it exactly. I am still spitting mad about the behavior of the GOP led Senate this past year. However, I am fundamentally pro functioning Supreme Court, so think unless there is a huge skeleton in his closet, he should be confirmed.

I think we should follow Senator McConnell's heartfelt words and wait until the next election before we even consider any nominee. That way the people can decide.

I am surprised and I guess should be grateful that he picked an actual judge.
It is hard not to want the Democrats to completely block.
The Republicans flat out stole what should have by all rights been an Obama pick.

What GOP did to Obama over Garland was disgusting. I hope the Dems don't respond in kind. Disgusting behavior is discouraged for a reason. It lowers the standards and makes every next action more open to more disgusting behavior.

Gorsuch clerked for Kennedy, so if he's confirmed they will be colleagues. That's neat.

It concerns me that he consistently sides with big business. He is said to be a textualist who interprets the constitution exactly as written. Yet he also says that law needs to be willing to acknowledge that cases are not black and white but filled with shades of gray. How these views will play out in SC decisions is up in the air. He comes across as thoughtful, intelligent and well spoken and is considered a gifted writer.
Personally as a left leaning citizen I hope the democrats do not block his appointment. Chances are great that DT will have the opportunity to put more than one justice on the court. I would prefer that they save their fight fo what could be a more controversial choice down the road. With this appointment the court will have the same balance as when Scalia was sitting. I can live with that. Blocking this choice would, in my opinion, be petty and would play out poorly in the long run. Republicans went low with President Obama's nomination. Democrats need to go high and play the long game.

I agree that he is not a horrible pick and should be confirmed.
In the meantime, can we create a foundation dedicated to the health and well-being of the remaining liberal justices? They need to hang on for at least three years until there can be a turn around in Congress LOL. At that point, if there is a Democrat majority, they could drag things out for a year until the next presidential election per Republican precedent.

I am pleasantly surprised in who Trump picked. I think he could have done much, much worse.
I agree with those who have said they hope he is confirmed in a quick manner. What the Republicans did before was wrong. With Kennedy getting on up there in age, its quite possible Trump could have a second pick. And I am afraid of who he will chose for the second person as retaliation for not swiftly confirming Gorsuch.

Isn't it ironic, with all the republicans and conservation calling liberals/democrats names that were the ones CONSTANTLY taking the high road?

Please don't use the word 'all' with republican and conservatives. We all are not calling people names. And in this thread alone, there have been people who have said that what the Republicans did was wrong.

With that said and having no control over that happening, I am personally happy with Neil Gorsuch. The SC nomination was my deciding factor in why I voted Trump.

Having seen Trump's cabinet nominations I was expecting someone much worse. I'm kind of surprised, it was a mature on crazy choice.
