I watched clips, interviews and things online during the week. Today I am watching Mrs. Doubtfire. It is one of my very favorites of his work. Such talent, great movie and that man will be greatly missed.
We have a funny story about this movie. I don't remember what year they changed the movie rating system but my oldest ds wanted to see a PG13 movie and he was maybe 10 or 11. I was trying to hold fast to waiting until he was 13. He was arguing his point of why it was OK to see whatever movie it was he wanted to watch and I was holding tight to my position. Then he said, mom you let me see a PG 13 movie when I was like 5! I told him I DID NOT! He said yes Mrs. Doubtfire! I ran to find the VHS and sure enough it was PG13. I let him watch it 100's of times! My ds now 22 text me the other day and as we spoke about Robins passing he said that watching that movie helped him process his dad leaving and our divorce when he was a young child.
Have you watched any of his work this week?
Deads Poet Society will be my next one.

The day after they announced his passing, I put on a movie channel and it was playing "Jacob the Liar" (I think the spelling of Jacob was different); set in in WW2 Jewish ghettos. I enjoyed it as much as someone can enjoy that type of movie. He was very good in it (imo). I haven't sought out any of his movies, though.

Jakub the Liar It was released in 1999 so it's a bit old, but it was pretty good.

I bought Good Morning Vietnam this week when I realized that I had not watched it since I had a VHS copy (and a VHS player). But, it turns out that I can't bring myself to start it, yet. I need a little more time.

Just by chance I was watching 'The Big Wedding' on Netflix and Robin Willaims had a small role in it, he was the minister.

We watched Good Morning Vietnam last night with the kids (15 & 17). It was a great movie and we discussed mental illnesses, but I don't know that it will stand the test of time with younger generations. There was a lot that the kids just didn't get--mostly about the conflict and musicians of the time (and just before that era.) I stopped it a few times to explain stuff, but then let it go as it was just too many stops. I tried to hit the high lights after the movie was over, but I don't think they were too impressed (with the movie, not Robin Williams.) The one scene that they both remarked on was when the Forest Whitaker character was trying to get RW to come back to broadcasting and they were trapped in the middle of a bunch of jeeps. They liked how it showed how important the character was to those listening.

We have watched Aladdin, Good Morning Vietnam, Good Will Hunting, and The Fisher king. We rented Dead poets from appleTV but it did not download. I need to contact them and figure out what happened. I really want my kids to see that one.

I haven't been able to ... Not sure when I will. I took Chris Farley's Passing really hard too. It was more than a year before I could watch my all time fave Tommy Boy.
I love the funny people and when we lose one, it really impacts me.

I think lots of people are watching his movies this week. On Netflix streaming, just about every Robin Williams title they offer is now on the Popular on Netflix section.
I've watched Aladdin and Dead Poets since I heard of his death. My kids watched Aladdin when they were tiny tots. But watching it again this week, they are new fans.
