I must have the sweetest blood around. I always get eaten alive, no matter where I go!!
Right now, both of my feet have huge welts all over from mosquito bites. And I'm miserable. Do you have any ideas that will stop the itch?? I've been taking benadryl and putting benadryl itch cream on them but they are still itchy!!
And any tips to help prevent them in the future? I've been taking a new vitamin, super B complex and I wonder if that's made it worse.

I usually use hydrocortizone with whatever thing makes it cooling. If the benadryl doesn't help, you might want to try a different topical ointment. I think ice on the bite can sometimes help, just be sure not to leave it on so long that you give yourself frostbite.
I don't think there's any prevention other than repellant options.

Remember the pink stuff from when you were a kid? Calamine lotion? It is the best thing, by far, to prevent the itch. Like you, if there is a mosquito within a mile radius it will find me and bite me. I get huge welts and they itch like crazy. But the good old fashioned calamine lotion works like a charm. And compared to all the other stuff it is cheap as all get-out. AND it comes in a clear formulation now-still smells the same, but you can't see it. The only thing that works to keep them off me is the heavy duty deet filled stuff. All the other products may work for some people, but just makes the mosquitoes laugh when I use it.

I was just going to ask about mosquito prevention....
I got bit twice yesterday. Once on the side of my nose up close to my eye and once on my left hand in between my thumb and pointer finger. Yeesh, could these bites be any more irritating. The one on my nose is just about where my glasses sit. So now when I have them on I have to scoot them down the bridge of my nose so I don't irritate the bite.

My legs are pretty chewed up right now too. Hydrocortisone is a big help.

I have a prescription for 2.5% hydrocortisone, which is higher than OTC, and it doesn't help one bit. Guess I'm off to get some of the pink stuff!

DH is all bitten up at the moment and driving me crazy with the itching! He has Benadryl and the hydrocortisone cream...not working! Thing is, I am usually the one with the bug bites and he hardly ever has any!

We use a product called After Bite I believe you can get it at stores like WalMart, Target, CVS, etc.

I'm lucky that Mosquitos don't like me. Everyone around me can be getting lots of bites while I don't get any. Must be an inherited thing, they didn't like my Dad either.

Just a word of warning: that stings something FIERCE if you've broken the skin.

Prior to going outside use Off or whatever bug spray you prefer. If you get bit, I use Benadryl gel. Living in Florida these 2 products are a must to survive the itch from mosquito bites.

I usually use Lanacane. It has 20% benzocaine that numbs the itchiness.

It has ammonia in it, so it does sting, but if you blow on it, the sting goes away fast. The relief is worth it!!!

Hydrocortisone is the most effective thing I've found. I'd love to use a more natural remedy, but sadly, they don't work for me. The prevention - again, I've not found anything effective. They bite me through clothes. The other common thing I hear is vitamin B. I take a very high quality vitamin B and they still bite me.

My son has Skeeter Syndrome, and so far regular pink Calamine gives him the most skin relief (he gets Benedryl and ibuprofen too). After Bite works for my other kids pretty well. My son isn't allowed out at skeeter time unless he's in long sleeves and pants, and repellent on all visible skin. His reactions are just so bad. We still manage to get a mosquito in the house every now and then, and it will seek my son out like a heat-seeking missile .

DD9 has to have a prescription for desonide cream for her bug bites because she swells up so badly from a simple bite. I love that stuff! Stops the itch and reduces swelling!
Check with your doctor!

I just went to walgreens and got the pink stuff, afterbite and more benadryl to take. Hopefully that will help.

I now have a list if things to look for at Walgreens tomorrow! Thank you! I swell up and get the itching and welts something fierce. I wish I knew what it was about me they like so much! Even with repellent on I attract them.

I just watch a story on our news station and it said banana peels and/or toothpaste are great relief. Their doctor consultant agreed

^^^ I wish I knew why they like me so much too. I've read it has something to do with how much co2 your body produces. I've also read it has something to do with body heat. But who knows.
So far the pink stuff is barely working. Getting ready for bed and going to take another benadryl and see if the after bite works. Fingers crossed!

Well, that's good to know. I have a prescription for that for something else-- something to keep in mind if the cortizone stops working! There is one species floating around here that causes my bite to swell up to the size of an oreo (diameter, not thickness).
