I went to the auction tonight. Holy cow, people got ridiculous deals tonight and it was absolutely killing the auctioneer. For example, he would try to get $10 for a starting bid, he'd get no bid, so he'd drop it to $5, no bid, dropped it to $3, down to $2, down to $1. Now normally people would jump in at $2 or $3 and it would end up higher than the original $10 that he was looking for. Not tonight, things were going for $1, $2 or $3, and often it was for multiple items.
I got ten brand new in the package Hallmark tissue paper packages for $2. So, 20 cents a package is an amazing deal.
Four new combination locks for a total of $2. Great to have on hand for gym lockers seeing how we seem to need new ones every year.
A fireproof lock box with two keys.
A new package of legal storage boxes for $2.
A box of new accordion folders for $3.
A new, with tag, Brooks Brothers tie for $1. The price tag is marked $45.
A shoe box of new magnets, with looney tunes characters and fun sayings, for $2. They still had their price tags on the backs of $1.99 each. They'll be fun to put in lockers and there are more than enough to give some to friends as well.
They had other lots of new gift items so I'm thinking that they bought out the stock of a small gift shop.
My sister bought a bunch of stuff at $1 and $2 per lot.
It was really cold in the space so things moved at a rapid pace once the auctioneer realized he wasn't going to be making the big bucks tonight. Auction ended about 1 1/2 hours earlier than usual.
Went out after for some fantastic pizza so it was a pretty good night.
What have you found this week?

We went to two estates sales today and one yesterday. We got some amazing things, plus had a great time doing it! I collect antique clothing. There was a trunk found in an attic from 1900 Los Angeles. Amazing stuff! The family even wrote out who it belonged to and where it came from. There is also a book called "For The Bride" and it has a much of recipes in it and how to manage a home. There is also ads inside and where the ads are there's little postcards with discounts for the item in the ad! I love stuff like that! I also got a vintage turquoise Pyrex bowl, pie plate, and cake pan all for $2! What's even more fun is I got the exact same pieces in pink a week ago (paid $5 then and thought that was a deal!). A box filled with over 25 ziplock bags of vintage cake decorations for $5. We also got an 18 piece 1933 Nativity set - it's stand up cardboard with the most amazing artwork for $3.
You really scored at the auction!!!

I got this table and chairs for $55 at yesterday's estate auction. My two boys in the Navy have found a house to rent together and need something for their breakfast room. This is perfect. (The lazy susan piece on it is not attached. I doubt they will use that piece as it makes it look more old-fashioned.)

My boyfriend and I do this together. It was a hobby we've had most of our lives and was a pretty great thing to discover we both have in common when we first met. We each have an area of expertise but share the love of vintage and antique. Estate sale shopping, cleaning up the items, and reselling days are our favorite dates!

I love toy ray guns. One of my kids wanted one at the circus once. We ended up getting it. It made the greatest sounds. My sister ended taping it so she could use it as a ring tone. She was sad when she couldn't transfer the tone over when she got a new phone. We had that toy for a long time.
Have fun playing!

Saturday I went to my usual auction place. Nothing I truly wanted except for this one cute amber colored glass owl which was a pitcher with a handle which stood about 10" tall. Something about it caught my eye. Well it was near a bunch of other stuff no one was bidding on and next thing you know there was a bunch of misc stuff including the owl. I think I paid like $1 for it all. The auctioneer even mentioned he thought the owl alone would go for $5 which was exactly how much I would have gone up to on it.
No one was apparently in the mood for most of the stuff and seeing I have plenty of storage room in my garage, I was picking up all kinds of lots of stuff for $1 that no one would bid on (come tag sale reason I will be ready). For instance I got 7 pads that would be great on a desk which are an inch thick (they are in like a pretty holder... can't figure out how to explain) anyway, got the pads and 6 small mirrors for that $1. Can easily sell them for $1 each for the pads. Pez dispensers were 3 for $1. Needed a couple wonder women for co-workers who collect her.
Box of kitchen utensils and knives, even if I sell for 25 cents each will make a killing seeing I paid $1. Two boxes of books for $2. Not the best shape once I looked at them. I have a bad impulse problem that when no one is bidding and I can get it for $1 I do it. I will still make money off them.
The best was this metal storage cabinet w doors that had a mirror on the front but inside of it were two lawn sprinklers in boxes and a tall brass lamp. I paid $3 for all of it. I thought the cabinet would be good for my sons fishing crap. When I checked the sprinklers one was brand new, heavy metal, not plastic. Had a receipt taped to it and it sold for like $30.
So thankful my SO can borrow his brothers truck so when I start buying the big things for next to nothing I can get the stuff home.
Kinda nice when it's too cold out, no one wants to go out especially to an auction! My gain for sure!

Well, I counted the magnets that I got at the auction on Saturday. 52 Looney Tunes and 25 regular, like dogs and dinosaurs. Plus, a gallon bags worth that we don't want and will donate. Pretty nice for $2.

I hit up 2 yard sales on my way into work on Saturday. I found a really nice two piece planter that looks like a conch shell. One piece sits inside the first piece and has a few holes in the bottom so if you need to you can remove it long enough to drain the excess water out of the plant. I love all things "beachy", so I had to have it to add to my collection for my living room. I also got some more really nice pieces of driftwood and some larger sand dollars. My ceiling in my living room is covered with a hand-tied fishing net that was my grandfather's. It drapes down one wall and I love to add sea treasures to it as I find them.
I also got 6 DVD's of movies I don't have, I thought it was 7 but one turned out to be a computer game!!! I also got a PC wine glass cleaning tool and a cool wooden spoon that the "bowl" of it is completely flat. My son's girlfriend loves to make tamales and this spoon looked like it would be good for spreading the masa dough on the corn husks. The last time she made tamales she about worked herself to death doing it with a spatula. I thought that spoon might help. The two kitchen tools were 10 cents a piece.
Nothing exciting but I had to be at work so not much time to really look.
Where do you find these auctions at, OP? I would love to try going to some!!! TIA
P.S.---Anyone want a Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End video game for their kids? It's a computer game...I'd be happy to ship it to someone that wants it.

I've been having such fun shopping at Goodwill for my "new to me" clothes that fit me and for my upcoming trip to Europe this spring. This last time I went on a Wednesday and that day is senior 20% off day. No way on God's green earth do I consider myself a senior, but apparently they do-if you are over 55 you get the discount. I'm 56 so I'll take it.
This is what I found: Genuine sheepskin boots in brown that fit me perfectly for $12.00. This was such a perfect find for me-I wear these as "house shoes"-German thing you wear them only indoors, because I am freezing most of the time during the winter, plus the fall and early spring. My previous pair was LLBean and they had just developed a hole in the toe plus the "fleece" inside the sole was completely gone. I practically jumped for joy. I sprayed them inside with Lysol, and I bought an UGG treatment kit years ago that I used to refresh and protect them before I started wearing them.
A giraffe print shirt in short sleeves in cotton-the label is gone but it fit's perfectly and feels like a Talbot's shirt from the quality. I think I paid $6.00
A gorgeous black silk elbow sleeve button up silk cardigan by Ann Taylor (not Loft) for $8.00 Fits like a dream.
Vera Wang jeans that look brand new and are boot cut-my favorite style that look best on me-I paid $12.00 for these. These fit perfectly too even length wise.
A Talbot's long sleeved mostly cotton, I think some rayon zip up cardigan sweater in teal green (people say when I wear that color it matches my eyes) for $2.00! The clerk was really nice and gave it to me at a huge discount because we couldn't get the zipper to go up past 1 inch from the bottom. When I got home DH fixed it. It's very soft for a cotton sweater and will be perfect for the trip.
I'm having such fun shopping for clothes this way and I'm determined not to shop retail anymore unless I have too. I don't see the point. I'm blessed to have a great Goodwill near me that has wonderful stock with quality clothing. I also think being a smaller size now really opens up the options for finding more clothes choices in used clothing so I'm lucky about that and happy.

I have been looking for some to put on the lower part of the fridge for our great grandson to play with while I am cooking, doing dishes.

I don't know how long you had them or if you purchased them new, but their warranty is great if you think they wore out in an unreasonable amount of time.

If you're a pea who posts pictures, I'd love to see your fishing net set up. It sounds neat. My sister has one in her bathroom and it looks cool.

I did buy them new and I can maybe find the receipt. I think 2 years is too short of time for them to wear out, what about you? I don't want to send them back if it's a normal time to wear them out. How long are they supposed to last? I can always call their customer service and find out. I used to buy all of my clothes from LLBean because I like classic clothes and they have great quality which is hard to find these days, plus reasonable prices considering their quality. But you've brought up a good point I didn't think of. Thank you-so glad I didn't toss them in the garbage yet.

Their warranty is basically if you don't think they lasted as long as they should have lasted, return them. And anything LL Bean should last more than 2 years unless you're actively trying to destroy them.

In fact, I never wore them outdoors. They were my "house shoes". It's a thing we used to have in Germany when I lived there as a small child-being half German I still do this. You have separate shoes just for in the house. I'm always freezing unless it's the middle of summer. So I wear these inside. Yeah, now that you mention it especially since they were never worn outdoors they should have lasted a lot longer.

They can make trips into garage, and outside to mailbox, patio. Congrats on your thrift find!

I went to a local thrift shop yesterday and found fiestaware...a dinner plate in a coral color for $1, a purple coffee mug for .50 and a teal coffee mug for .50! I've started buying pieces here and there but this was the best deal by far! I also found a new Lolita wine glass for .50. (They retail for about $25-) I have a nice collection of these glasses.

Also while that store has quality clothes here and there, for some reason quality shoes are scarce. Most are man made product and not leather.

DH will go sock footed out to the mailbox, he grew up far south where it was almost always warm. I have a new appreciation of how spoiled we (general USA) are materially since I started looking and buying thrift clothing. The quantity and quality of what we discard is vast.

MY DH goes around the house bare foot even in winter which I do not get at all-but he is always running hot. He grew up in Maryland. My German mother was in for a huge culture shock when she first came to the USA (when I was a year old) and we came to my American grandmother's house in Georgia (my Dad is American). My aunt was a teen running around the house barefoot and she has told me she thought, "Oh my God, what kind of place is this?" The Wall in Germany went up shortly after that and my father (who spoke fluent German thanks to the US Army) was called back very quickly so back we went. His job was spying on the East Germans through head phones. BTW my Mom was very young at the time, only 21.

No fair! I live in the land of Mormons! Big families, low budget, lots of hand me downs before being donated. No great clothing here! I have to really scour. My daughter is planning on selling all of her Babysitters Club books I had previously bought on e-bay. I'm going to check completed listings there before posting on a local facebook classifieds ad group.

I made a trip to Savers yesterday. I found some good stuff. I found a new, condiment server with its tag still on. It's rectangle shaped with the attached lid that you push back. There are four pieces that fit into the container with room underneath them for ice. The attached lid is a nice feature for outside use. A vintage glass sugar dish with a stainless lid and spoon. I like the Pyrex sugar dish I got the other week but it's awkward for the kids to use so I'll switch to the one I got yesterday. A Lia Sophia necklace with abalone beads. A vintage faux cameo pin in a regal setting set with nice stones, perfect to dress up a winter coat.
Hoping that my good luck would continue, I also stopped in at Goodwill. It was a dud, but it never hurts to check.
There is an auction tomorrow night. If I think I can handle the cold I'll go. It's supposed to be really windy and cold tomorrow. Last week I wore a parka, used foot warmers and a lap blanket and was still cold. But, I do love a bargain and maybe the cold will keep some of the competition away.
I was thinking of all of you on my way to work this morning. Sitting on the curb was a free French Provincial bureau. It was in great condition and easy to imagine with a new paint job.
I hope you all have fun and success on the hunt this weekend. Don't forget to report back on your hits and misses.
