My HL is always busy and there are 2 registers open. I always get behind the person with 3,000,000 million flowers, etc. I think it's absolutely asinine that they do it the way they do. How ass backwards can a company be?

My Hobby Lobby is always very busy and they're building a new one one mile from my house. I absolutely love Hobby Lobby. I call it my "Happy Place." They just have so much more scrapbook stuff than Michaels or Joann here.
I actually like having the price on each item. I have always hated that there is no price on things you pick up in a store. It is irritating to wonder if you are going to be charged correctly. I've never had a problem with being charged wrong and I go there at least once a month. I just love their selection of home products and Christmas ornaments and scrapbooking stuff.
Maybe I don't mind it because I like things old school and I'm not usually in a hurry when I go in there. It's so pleasant, I only go when I can really take my time and wander around! Just think....when we were growing up no one had scanners and no one complained. We're all so spoiled now we don't really remember how things used to be.

While my hobby lobby is always busy, waiting is rarely a problem. The checkers for the most part have all been working there forever and therefore are pretty well versed in the sales and sale cycles.

And I've been to your Hobby Lobby! I've never had a problem. Only problem is, haven't been to your town for at least 6 years. At least I have a Hobby Lobby 80 miles away that I hope to visit this week!

I have been to a few Hobby Lobby's in my area and have never really noticed it being that bad. I don't think it takes any more time that my Michaels to check out and the cashiers seem to be pretty good about the sale items.
I will say my oldest is not a fan of their shopping carts. He is 4 and was quick to tell the cashier that their carts were too hard and they hurt his bottom - ha ha. I do wish they had a two seater cart or just bigger carts -that would help me lots as it is tough with two little ones and that tiny cart!

I remember reading something about this, perhaps on 2Peas? It is very likely an urban legend, but supposedly because it is a Christian affiliated company, it is something to do with scanning being "the mark of the beast" I did google and found a link to a blog which claims this was said by someone who works there. And of course we all know it must be true if it is on the Internet. And no, I'm not really a conspiracy theorist, it just was the first thing I remembered. I am just jealous that you have huge craft stores that sell lots of scrapbook stuff cheap, even if you do have to line up. Corinne The Mark of the Beast issue Christians have is when society gets to the point that people themselves have to have a chip or barcode (said to be in the forehead or right hand) in order to make transactions of any kind--using that mark instead of bank cards or ID cards, etc. Since Hobby Lobby accepts debit and credit cards, I am sure this is not really a reason for them to continue to manually input prices instead of using a scanner, but is an urban legend like you suggested. Also, as someone who doesn't go to HL very often because it's so far away (I make it once a year, if that), I tend to buy way more than I should. It's flat out embarassing to stand there with a giant piles of scrapbook and jewelry supplies while everything is slowly inputted one at a time while everyone stares at your stuff, ticked off you have so much and probably wondering how much you spent.

I always group my items into piles and tell the cashier, "Ribbon should be 40% off, Fall is 30% off, and I am using my coupon on this item."
I read some place that HL says they save $1 million a year by not scanning items.

I go so often that several cashiers will just ask, "How many sheets?" They don't count. Now at Michaels and Joanns's the painstakingly ring up every single sheet of the 250+ I purchased. I love it when the receipt prints out.
