I can't decide whether I feel happy for this girl as she certainly seems happy with the news or whether to feel sorry for her because that's all she knows. That pretty much sums up my feelings on the whole family.

Katiecupcake, you mentioned Jill's choice... I'm not convinced she had a choice. Her parents isolated her from outside influences and restricted her exposure to anything but what they deemed appropriate, even when she was an adult. They positioned her to make no other "choice". Her parents limited her education, knowledge of real world events, and coerced her into a simple mindset of reproducing and staying sweet. I disagree. The Duggar family has traveled the world and are not isolated from the choices that are out there. Yes they are. Their worldly travels were choreographed and controlled by the parents and producers. Do you think for a second that one of the Duggar kids could have strayed from the cocoon during one of the perfectly planned trips to see what's really out there? No way. They were there for TV, self-promotion, and to witness, not to gain real-world knowledge. She is an adult and could have left her parents' home and taken a different path. She chose to accept Derick's courtship and marriage proposal. She chose marriage and together as a couple they have chosen a similar outlook on birth control and family planning as her parents. Her parents didn't equip her to make any other choice. Do you think they sat her down at some point and said, look Jill, we're so happy you've decided to pursue midwifery, but we also want you to know that if you want to be an obstetrician, we completely support that - you can be anything you want to be. Nope. Her education was with wife/mother as the end game, not independent woman. Her only choice was to follow her prescribed path. You might consider their mindset to be "simple" but those kids are smart, the family is financially more than stable, they live in a world where access to news and education is at their fingertips should they choose, and they have an unwavering faith in Christ Jesus. If marriage and child rearing bring Jill Duggar Dillard and her husband the life they seek, it doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks. I simply don't get why some people must try to tear apart and badmouth the lifestyle the Duggar family embraces. You don't have to live your life that way. But Jill and Derick have stated they are happy to welcome this baby into their young family and therefore I can be happy for them regardless of if her choices and mindset are different from my own. You know, it's called tolerance. Seems so many demand it but aren't willing to give it in return. Because I have an opinion about the Duggar parents, who have exploited themselves and their minor children on television for years, I'm intolerant? kk.

I really mostly like the duggars and wish my household ran as smoothly as theirs. I only have 3 kids and it is more chaotic.
I do wonder how many dugger children there will be in 60 years. Michelle and Bob have 19 kids even if all of their kids have 10 kids (some will have more and some might have less) that will be 190 grandchildren. Even if those 190 grandchildren have 5 kids each (I really think this is a underestimated) that would be 950 great grand children. The numbers are staggering! In four generations they would have more population that the entire town I live it! Kind of unreal.

I saw Jill and Derrick last night on TLC. They did an appearance to announce her pregnancy.
They both looked so happy.

After her robocalls trying to rally against Fayetteville's non-discrimination laws (seriously, could she have sounded any more like Anita Bryant?) I've pretty much reached the end of the slack I'm willing to cut.

I am still waiting for the Duggar child that goes against all in which he/she was brought up. I'm still betting on Jinger!! (and I always pronounce like 'singer' when I read it...lol)

Good for them. I would want to get to know the man who is going to be my children's father before I actually reproduce, but okay. I only wish the best for them. Don't you want to know them before you marry them? Sleep with them? I know it goes against the norm nowadays, but it is wise to not sleep with or marry a stranger.

They hardly know each other in my opinion. I knew my husband for 5 years before we got married and 9 years before we had children.

Thanks Scrappower! I don't watch the show because I grew up in a religion that was very limiting and can't stand to watch it for the same reasons. So I've never heard the name said. Maybe they should have spelled it "Jinjer". hahaha!

I'm happy for them. The Duggars seem like a nice happy family. Jill and her husband appear to be very much in love. I don't think there is a perfect time to start a family-different strokes for different folks. However, I've just never understood why anyone would want to live their lives in front of a tv camera.
