"Donald Trump’s trips to his luxury Florida resort have already cost the US taxpayer at least $24 million (£19.2 million) - roughly as much as Barack Obama spent on travel in the first two years of his presidency. Mr Trump has spent seven weekends at Mar-a-Lago since taking office ten weeks ago.... After he hosts Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mar-a-Lago this weekend, Mr Trump will have averaged $2.4 million (£1.9 million) tax dollars a week on his Florida trips. If he keeps going at this pace, he will have outspent Mr Obama’s $97 million figure [over EIGHT YEARS!!] in just ten months.... Before his inauguration, Mr Trump regularly criticised Mr Obama for playing golf while holding office. “Can you believe that, with all of the problems and difficulties facing the US, President Obama spent the day playing golf. Worse than Carter,” he tweeted in October 2014. During a campaign rally last year, Mr Trump referred to his golf courses when he criticised Mr Obama. He said: " You know what – and I love golf – but if I were in the White House, I don’t think I’d ever see Turnberry again, I don’t think I’d ever see Doral again, I own Doral in Miami, I don’t think I’d ever see many of the places that I have. "I don’t ever think that I’d see anything, I just wanna stay in the White House and work my ass off, make great deals, right? Who's gonna leave? I mean, who's gonna leave?"" www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/donald-trump-travel-expenses-10-weeks-us-taxpayer-fifth-barack-obama-eight-years-mar-a-lago-us-a7670541.html----- Ah, yes. That vaunted "fiscal responsibility" at its finest.

Wow! What's I'd like to know was this his usual travel schedule before becoming President? Well maybe things were off the last year while he was campaigning, but does he not like to winter on the weekends?

I don't ever want to hear another fucking word about Obama golfing or going on vacation. The Republican critics have lost the right to ever bitch about this again.
And he knows it's wrong because he keeps trying to be sneaky about it. I mean, c'mon. He didn't quite understand that becoming president means you have no private life for 4 (please god let it only be 4) years. For the first time in a really long time, Trump has a boss and I don't think he likes it.

Think of all the funding we wouldn't have to cut if he just stayed in DC and worked instead of golfing in Florida 70% of his weekends.

Well isn't this a fair price to pay for all of the amazing, wonderful, fantastic, beautiful things he has done for our country so far!? I am sure in his method of accounting he has already made much more hypothetical money than that for the government! It really surprises me that I can continue to find more and more reasons to loathe that man on every freaking level every.damn.day. I kinda thought I would hit a ceiling with it at some point, but yet it just continues to skyrocket by the day.

Honestly, it should just be plain old voter outrage. Not Republican outrage. Trump is an obvious outlier when compared to ALL other presidents, not just Obama.
But, for a party that espouses fiscally conservative values, this should be a particular offense that is difficult to turn a blind eye to.
The White House is a short helicopter flight away from Camp David which is equipped for the President, staff and visitors. It does not hinder a business community by blocking traffic or a wide swatch of flight patterns. Go there if you think you need to get out of Dodge every weekend. The cost is minimal compared to the weekly trips to FL and the government will also not have to pay to house staff & secret service.

I read this morning that he is already planning to go back next weekend. The man has no shame. Just add that to the list of many, many things that are missing from trump. I keep thinking that someone in Congress is finally going to say enough and try to stop this outrageous drain of taxpayer money, but so far, crickets.

Yep golfing again this weekend.
And those who are tracking his off White House grounds meetings are showing that he visits/holds meetings at Trump owned places every 2.8 days.
Yes, taxpayers foot the bill.
Guess who benefits?
Yep. Trump Organizations.

"I don’t ever think that I’d see anything, I just wanna stay in the White House and work my ass off, make great deals, right? Who's gonna leave? I mean, who's gonna leave?"" had dinner with some friends last weekend who are Trump supporters; this issue came up, and the response was 'well, he's working all the time, no matter where he is...' --but why can't he work in Washington? Why does he NEED to travel every weekend? 'Well, he wasn't President when he made those comments... now he is, and it's tougher than he thought.' Even when I tried to point out the expense of all that travel, and the fact that he's enriching himself in the end by going to Mar-a-Lago, the response to THAT was 'how does that enrich him? he's paying for it all himself, isn't he?' ---uhhh... what about all the travel expenses WE'RE paying for-- unless he's paying for the expenses of Air Force 1? I don't think so-- and all the ancillary people who need to travel there when HE goes, spending money at Mar-a-Lago, and all the publicity it's giving the place?) Basically, this exchange showed me that even when it's all laid out in black and white, some Trump supporters just don't seem to care.

I think he invites Presidents down to FL to make it seem like look he's still holding business. And yes he is, but it doesn't have to be in FL. nd all the publicity it's giving the place?) Ahhh..you think that's his angle?

The only way he'll stop going is if it starts to cost him $$$.
Like, maybe if enough protestors lined the roads there that it becomes a burden. NOT to him (since they'll just block access to the roads when his motorcade comes through) but other guest who are going to the resort. I don't know what you could do - signs? billboards? loud music and people shouting?
Maybe just make sure that enough people are on the roads that it takes so long to get there and it's no longer worth the effort.

And let's not forget the cost of all the government officials and staff that travel to have meetings in Mar a Lago instead of DC. They aren't all hitching "free" rides on Air Force One. The fleecing of the taxpayers like this is downright criminal. Party of fiscal responsibility indeed.

Where's the Republican outrage??? There isn't any. I live in a deep Red state and viewing the online comments to our local newspaper and websites all sorts of R's here are using any sort of mental gymnastics to rationalize this. A few comments I have seen the last couple days: He is meeting with important leaders This is where important meetings happen and deals get done He is fat and at least he is exercising And my favorite- he owns the golf courses he is playing at so he isn't paying the green fee so he is actually saving tax payers money unlike Obama who had to pay his green fee.
What the actual f*ck are these people thinking. Apparently, not much.

Where's the Republican outrage??? Right here! Right f*ing here! Hello, I'm a republican and yes I'm outraged over all the winter white house crap. They might as well change the name to the "new" white house because there is no way he'll stop going there once it's warm in DC. I don't know who is making excuses for this, but it sure as heck isn't me, my R family, my R friends, nor my R coworkers. I've overheard someone while out to eat say something along the lines of "who cares where he does business, as long as he's doing what needs to be done". Taxpayers money was immediately brought up to that person. So even in a very red state, we are not sitting by and saying "oh well, at least he's working". I don't put a lot of stock in what talking heads are saying, I see what is happening around me and take a little more stock in that.

Anyone want to guess how many breakfasts and lunches could be served to hungary kids with that money? Let them eat cake. and then let them pay higher insurance premiums due to being overweight, because the only thing they could afford to eat was fast food (i.e., 'cake'). oh, the irony. And he makes money for his personal enterprises by going. ^^^ "wait, how does he do that? He's paying for it all himself, and he owns the resort!" This was said to me in all seriousness this weekend by a Trump supporter. She actually got me to thinking for a second, 'maybe he IS paying for it himself... oh, wait-- who are we talking about, again?)
