In my humble opinion the Tonic version is significantly different from the MISTI to begin with. Flipping the plate over to accommodate rubber versus acrylic, BRILLIANT! I bought the WRMemory Keepers version because it was inexpensive. As I am on a DT for a company that competes with one of Tim Holtz's major lines I tend to stay away from his (awesome!) stuff, but would prefer to purchase his as well. I use my precision press for different techniques that what I use my old style stamp positioners, just saying there is plenty of room in the field and it is too bad that MSP is a bitter lemon!

That's what it sounds like to me. The plot thickens! From my understanding, she only trademarked the name to try and stop the Stampoholic venture from India. She applied to get it trademarked in February 2016. That's when the Stampoholic sort of exploded in the online community, right? Now that it has been granted, she can essentially stop any US retailer from selling it because of the name, making the MISTI the go-to product again in the country where scrapbooking is most popular. Knowing her sneaky ways with trademarks and patents (I'm guessing that if her husband is actually a lawyer as some have speculated, this is his specialty), she would have trademarked the Stampoholic name ahead of launching the product, not when reviews were dropping left and right online... She's just a bitter lemon, y'all. This one won't change by looking into a mirror. There won't be an epiphany moment about lighting metaphorical candles, etc. This is correct. I remember the discussions about it after the stampoholic came out. Iliana definitely is NOT the owner of Die Cuts and More, which owns the stampoholic brand in India.

Did anyone else preorder the Tonic positioner from oozak? I'm a little annoyed that they have sent out zero updates about the delay. I emailed back when the delay was first mentioned on fb and never got a reply. They used to be one of the best for good service too.

Super excited - heard today my pre-ordered stamp platform has arrived in New Zealand and the shipment is just waiting for a biosecurity clearance. Hopefully I should have it in my hands in a few days

FurryP Thank you for sharing the review. Only Shaz would get it first, lol. That's my girl. Shaz is like me she's nitpicky about her stamp images. I loved her examples. I can't wait to get mine. I didn't pre-order. I guess I will need to be patient.

Just picked up my platform.....can't wait to get home to try it out. I wonder how they have gotten around the legal battle to be able to sell it here in Sweden/Europe. But I picked it up.....along with a few other things that fell in my cart, paid and high tailed it out of there.

I think it's genius for Tonic to start selling it overseas!

I was late with pre-ordering so I'm up for arrival number 2 which is later this month. Booh! anniefb Annniiiiiieeeee, I'm so giddy for you! Annnnnniiiiiieeeeee, I'm so jealous of you! Post pictures when you get it! Show that beauty off. Make us drool, make us sweat, make us want to hate you. julieinsweden We're getting Tonic Studio's "old" batch abroad as they try and get rid of it because of the Misti threat (which only applies to the US market although I wonder if it's extended to Canada due to possible agreements over such patterns between both countries). Will you let us know your first impressions?

You know stamp positioners are on the uptick when AliExpress has one (it's tiny and doesn't look great, but it's only USD$11.95). Made me laugh when I stumbled upon it the other day.

Got un update from ACOT today. The shortened version:
They are expecting them sometime in June. No updates from Tonic. The new model will be an "improved" version.

That's interesting because what we've been told by the supplier here in New Zealand is: The Platform has been caught up in a legal case brought against them by MISTI. They are not allowed to sell them in the USA and they will have to rework the design and remove some features. We are lucky being able to get the original versions shipped out of Europe where the patent laws don't apply.

SaveSaveOh, I completely believe that is the real story. I just posted ACOT's polite version that I got.

I'm so curious about what changes they made. I really can't think of a feature that I would want to do without. I wonder if vendors will let people who pre ordered know exactly what's different so we can decide if we still want them.

I bet they have to remove the magnetic part. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. My Greedy Petunia. That is possible. Not a deal breaker for me, though. Washi tape holds things in place, and I don't have to worry about any of my grandkids swallowing the magnets. I love the Tonic design, with or without the magnets.

Washi tape holds things in place, and I don't have to worry about any of my grandkids swallowing the magnets. I love the Tonic design, with or without the magnets. The funny thing about the Misti is that I RARELY see a youtube where the magnets actually hold the cardstock in place. The lid almost always lifts the cardstock - even w/multiple magnets or the magic "bar" magnet supposedly holding the cardstock down. That's why MGP needed to "invent" the additional corners - so you could have the cardstock somewhere other than the corner of the actual unit - and then if it comes up w/the lid, you can reposition it against the additional corner. If the magnets worked, you wouldn't need to rely on inner corners or other inner plastic pieces to hold the cardstock against. You would just position the cardstock anywhere on the platform, hold it down w/the magnets and be sure it wouldn't move if you wanted to multi-stamp the same spot. Then you would move the cardstock, secure it w/the magnets and stamp again (if you're going for stripes or other repeated patterns).

In my experience the lid only lifts the cardstock from the magnets if I use versamark (which is pretty sticky) or no ink at all (like for positioning, before I ink up the stamp). Actually versamark only seems to lift it if it's a solid design. But the magnets are really strong so I don't know how else it could work. When I tried washi tape it came up as easily as the magnet AND I had trouble getting the tape off without mucking up my cardstock.

Gale have you tried office style removable tape? It would probably hold better than Washi but still without tearing the paper.
I don't use Versamark ink very often, and I am pretty sure I have not used it when I've used the stamp positioner that I made. Washi worked for me with my cheap home made version (my knock off does not use magnets). If you use Versamark a lot, then that might be an issue if they do end up removing the ability to use magnets. Since it sounds as though you have a MISTI, I hope you will try Scotch removable tape and let us know if it is able to prevent Versamark ink from lifting up the paper. Others may feel the same way you do.
The Tonic version will stamp a 12x12 sheet of card stock. For that fact alone, I want it. I have often resorted to making my own background paper with stamps, when I had nothing quite suitable in my stash. The reversible lid is the other reason I want the Tonic. Both of those aspects of the Tonic design are the main reason I want the Tonic stamp positioner.
Nothing, not even the ability to use magnets (assuming Tonic removes them from the US version), would tempt me to buy anything from MSP. Ever.

I couldn't take it any more, and just bought one from the UK on eBay. $58 including international shipping. Our international Peas do it all the time, so it's only right that we have to do it every now and then. I do not want one without the magnets. I hope eBay doesn't get a cease and desist order!

gale w Here's a video of someone using the TH platform with Versamark (on heavy watercolour paper). The magnets seem to be holding the paper down well. oaksong Once I paid over 14€ (US$15.7) for a set of chipboard stickers I really ( really really) wanted but that was sold out in the shops over here... Ah, the joys of being an international scrapper.
